Smart people do dumb things

Do you ever just sit down and shake your head over how smart people can do dumb things? I always try to see what prompted the act. But this one I just can't figure, even after asking. Hubby blocked the barn door so that it stayed open during the day. When asked he said he wanted the cat to be able to get in. So this morning he rushed to the house and had me come look in the barn. There is a chicken on a nest that she has made in the boxes stored in the barn. Please understand our barn is used for storage only and we fight a never ending fight to keep all pests out. So now we have a chicken, a very dirty chicken, ( all chickens are dirty) in there. Soon to follow will be racoon, skunk and maybe a fox, all after the chicken. All of these can fit through the space where the door is open. Needless to say I removed chicken and sent her back to the chicken house, I closed the door after checking for any of these other pests, I got the doge to help me with that, and I pointed out that the cat has a great many places to stay safe and comfortable with out being in the barn during the day. Hubby took this all pretty well said he just hadn't looked at it that way. It sure made me wonder how he did look at it. Og well things like this make me feel needed. Country life

I think that it has to do with the difference between men and women. Men dont think ahead. We are the ones to do that and I guess thats why they need us so badly (but wont admit). I often tell my hubby things like this and Im always amazed that he didnt think of it as he's smart!! I remember my mom doing the same with my dad. So its definitely something to do with the male species.........oh dear.......and we have men running our countries....no wonder we're so much in deep doodoo!! You are needed and keep your eyes open, he's bound to do something else that'll have you scratching your head lol

It's a good thing I don't scratch my head, if I did I would be bald. Usually he has a pretty good reason I just have to remember to ask.

All the time. Book smarts does not mean common sense, and smarts in one area does not mean smarts in another.

That is so sweet of him to think of the kitty's comfort! You don't find too many men like that. You're right, chickens are really dirty! What a lot of work that was when he was just trying to be nice. I've done some really dumb things, too, and I know I'm not stupid. Sometimes people just don't think about the unintended consequences.

There two kinds of smarts....book smarts and common sense. The lucky ones have both. My husband is very book smart, but has no common sense. I could write a book on the dumb things he has said or did over the past 15 years!

We are all capable of doing dumb things. Being smart does not guarantee tht this won't happen. Most dumb things happen to us becuse we didn't think something through. If we rush into something, the result usually leaves us feeling dumb.

Maybe your right. It goes with the saying "Nobody is perfect". Even though smart people do dumb things same as well as to those you are not that so good can do certain achievements that any one can be proud of.

I think men just live in the moment. You are very much needed Pat and I am glad you are keeping the chickens, the cat and all the pests in line. I am just surprised you do not mention a possum as well. That would be the final pest you would need.

LOL. I can picture your cute face, savy. Of how you are trying to be patient with Mr Hubby, but at least he took it lightly without having to put you on a debate. Most guys denies that what they did is not stupid but at least he submitted to your idea that you are right after all. Very good hubby :D Take care, savy.

Another perfect example of male thinking...Thinking for the moment without considering consequences, the way men see it is that “it seemed like a good idea at the time.” They are far from stupid but my guess is that not only are they unable to multitask they cannot think about right now while considering future consequences as well! We must be patient with them...
