Have you ever played music live?

Have you ever played an instrument or song in front of an audience? If you have, what did you perform? Do you perform regularly? I lead worship at my church (so I play different kinds of worship songs), but the time with the largest audience was probably a Christmas special that I played in.

Cool, I've been trying to teach myself how to play bass (as well as normal guitar). I mainly play for my church. I lead worship and do some instrumental stuff. It's a lot of fun! :)

I learned piano for 7 years in a music school so of course I had to preform (heck, it was a part of the grades, actually). I also took part quite a few competitions, but as I grew older and real school started to take its toll I couldn't manage that anymore. I played classical music and also took part of a competition with music I wrote.

That's wonderful. I wish I could play music like you. I certainly like listening to all kinds of music, classical music especially. I like the guiter sounds too, very inspiring. I did try to learn to play guiter during my high school days, but didn't get very far.

Thank you! :) You could always try learning again, maybe you would be more willing to keep trying! Even though playing and learning an instrument can be difficult, it is definitely worth it in the end. :)

I first played in front of a live audience when i was studying in a Science college. We were a motley crowd of 7 guys and we had one main singer, a guitarist whom we borrowed, and i was playing percussion on the Bongos/This was in front of our college crowd.then when i went to study Architecture i had learnt the guitar and formed my own ban with 2 of my classmates, on guy who sang and played the Rhythm guitar, one guy who played the drums and me as a Lead guitarist.Since we were all students of Architecture we called ourselves as The Archibeats. Our lead guitarists elder brother who was a medical student used to play base guitar with us whenever we had our shows as well as sing.we played in many stage shows, private parties, college socials and dance shows. This was way back in the 60`s and was great fun.We received lot of adulation from the crowds in front of whom we played. I think this was one of the best periods of my life as i enjoyed music and also ejoyed playin live in front of people.

I play at church for offeratory. Usually my biggest audience is around 40 people. I play piano and most of the time, I play out of the hymnal, although this weekend the church is due for a classical hymn hybrid...lol I've been working on this piece for over two months and I think it is ready for the church to hear now. It is what I plan on playing for Singspiration, which come us every three months around here. So, it shall be interesting.

No! even though I make and release my own music I have never played live in front of people. I don't think im good enough to play a solid live set..And my nerves would more than likely get the best of me...Which would lead me to make mistakes. Just the thought of playing live freaks me out!

Hey, you never know until you try! You could always start by having a concert for some friends in your backyard or something, that way you know that they will be supporting you. Messing up isn't even always noticeable if you keep going in the song and stay calm. I would like to hear some of your music! :)

I haven't done so for a while but I used to sing and play regularly, both solo and with a group. Although I have been a member of choral groups, my main interest is Folk music, especially English, Irish and Scots nusic. The group I played with for nearly 40 years did concerts (song and music) and also played for social dancing. We regularly played concerts with audiences of one or two thousand and once, I think, (not counting radio and TV performances) of about 5000. I find it more nerve-wracking to play for an intimate audience of 20 or 30 than to stand on stage before thousands. When you can see the audience as individuals (and wonder how they are reacting), one often feels more personally involved than when there is just a sea of faces. When the audience is far too big to relate to individually, one simply does what one knows one does well and trusts to providence that the magic of 'audience' is working. (I do know that what I do is competent and entertaining) ... at least some in the audience, anyway, are bound to be more than just entertained. When it is just a small number, you feel you have to work harder to get them to relate to you. It may not actually be true but that's the way it feels! I have played for worship but I am not a person who likes to separate worship from daily life, so all the songs I sing have a message (though it may be a private one and I let it speak for itself through my performance) and I always try to remember that God is part of my audience.

Wow! I can't say that I have played for audiences that large haha! The largest group for me has probably been a few hundred people. Yes, I agree that playing with a smaller audience is more nerve-wracking than playing for a lot of people. As you said, it is definitely important to remember that God is always part of the audience! :)

I was in school bands in elementary school through high school. I was also in marching band and my church's orchestra in high school. I played the clarinet. I also played the clarinet in the pit orchestra for a production of "Cabaret" my freshman year of college. I've performed a lot of different types of music. My favorite was a piece called "Vesuvius" by Frank Tickeli. I still have sheet music for it somewhere. :P
