Do you care of brands when you buy art supplies?

To me it depends on what I need. Some supplies need to be good quality (like coloured pencils or brushes) but for the others I don't care much. What are your thoughts?

I think that most people start out buying the cheapest available but very soon find out that it is actually worth paying two or three times more for good materials (especially tools like brushes). The next thing that I found I needed to 'upgrade' was probably paints and colours (depending on what one is doing). There is a world of difference between the cheap paints and pastels and the ones made by the reputable and established art firms! I agree that paper, card and canvas is probably less of an issue, so long as it's going to last (we all want our work to last, don't we!)

Well, thankfully cheap brushes can also be used for "dirty" jobs like brushing on glue or mixing paints :). I agree with the paints, too. Good paints have more pigment and that way they actually last longer.

I care about brands when it comes to pencils because the cheaper ones break easily but named brands are more sturdy. I think everything else wouldn't vary as much so I only really care about brands when it comes to pencils.

Yeah, I've noticed that too - cheaper brands tend to break easily. They also don't give out much pigment so they're kind of pointless to use anyway.

There are brands that give you the quality even without having to spend much. And yes there are brands that I am a regular customer of. I don't really go for the very expensive ones because they are already least practical.

Definitely! I don't go for the really expensive brands, but I don't go for the cheapest either. The difference in quality between 'cheap' brands and 'fancier' ones is really noticeable when it comes to some kinds of supplies, such as paints, types of paper or brushes, etc. Having poor quality supplies can ruin an otherwise nice picture, after all! Take care!
