i started cutting my husbands hair a few years ago to save a few pounds. he in turn cuts my youngest sons hair (we use clippers and scissors). although a bit nervous at first i surprised myself how easy and convinient this has worked out to be. i feel this activity has become a part of home life that my son will remember fondly as he is always happy to show his friends his new 'cut'. i am sure this same tradition is being played out all over the world but when he is older will he think how happy he was or that his parents were just cheap?

Same here I cut hubby's hair to save a few dollars. It was his idea which I hesitantly oblige as he was very particular with his haircut. Most of the time, we would argue and end up laughing if the haircut is a little off. I also cut my daughter's hair.
It's one way to save and bond together.

I don't do this now but I do remember my mum doing this when we were young, to be honest I don't really think many people sent thier children to hairdressers at that time. My Mum had this kind of comb that had a blade on it so that it thinned the hair out as well as cutting it..I always remember my brother looking like he had had a basin on his head to cut his hair though ,lol.

back then i think when i was 16 years old my sister next to me she was the one who alwasy cut my hair coz i had a bad experience when i went to a parlor and did my hair cut and i do not like the way they cut my hair. And then i said to myself i will going to any parlor anymore to have my hair done. Then my sister suggested one time tha she will gonna cut my hair at first i was nervous coz i don not know how it will turn out but oh my gush i like the way she cut my hair. And then she teaches me to know how to cut my hair by myself. And now that i am married i cut my hair personally it is ok with me coz maybe i am so used to it. And remember since i was 16 and until now i am 31 years old i did not experience anymore to go to a parlor so i save money plus i like my hair much much betterAnd plus i dye my hair by myself maybe i will have my own parlor. lol

Just want to share this belief in our country. They say that when you decide to give your son.daughter their first haircut, you must be very choosy of who will do it. because according to the oldies which our tradition really gives big deal of - the one who will do the first cut will pass on some of his traits to the child. I ended up having my dad cut my daughter's hair cause I want my child to get his wisdom...just something to share...;-)

I think it is great that you have the ability to cut hair. My husband wants me to try cutting his hair... what a brave person he must be :D I am too nervous to try, I know absolutely nothing about cutting hair. I know a few people that cut hair for their husbands and sons. Your son has no reason to resent the fact that his hair was cut at home.

hey i cut my kids hair at home. first i was nervous too but the more you do it, the more confident you get with it and it will look better and better every time. boys are so much easier and i would only trim my daughters hair. but let me tell u, my daughter who is 4 wanted an A-line cut ok. i was very nervous and i did it and everyone thinks i took her to a shop! i was so happy, i mean it really looks good. i don't think they will grow up to think that we as parents are cheap. i think they will believe we are really talented!
