I know that we are entitled to our own bodies, that we can do whatever we want to do with it because it is our body. However, there's one observation I would like to make regarding some people who, perhaps early in the morning, are heading to the market or other places and who don't bother to change or bathe. You know that in taking public transport you get to sit close or very close next to strangers, people we don't know. So I think it is likewise rude not to take a shower before going out of the house. There was this woman who obviously had just jumped out of bed, her hair was in disarray and she was wearing house clothes. She was obviously in a hurry, but my complaint was of the fishy smell she emanated while seated next to me. I never go out without taking a shower first and I thought that it was rude of this woman to take public transport without first cleaning herself. What do you think of this? Am I being judgmental?

Hello Cutie. You're not being judgemental at all. I find it hard to be around people who don't take care of their personal hygene. It only takes a few minutes to shower, brush our teeth and apply some deodorant. If these people can't be bothered to at least make an effort then they deserve to be ridiculed and shamed into doing so. I know some people can't help sweating a lot but that's different, the ones I can't tolerate are the ones who stink of sweat or have bad breath all the time.

i do agree with you...it's not fine with me when you are in public without cleaning yourself first.it's PUBLIC.they should respect the others.we have no rights to smell the odor you bring and guess what i have many experiences on facing those people who prefer to go out without even take a bath.the worst is i need to face them everyday.it is because of their habit of taking a bath at evening not morning.yes there are people like this!they smell so good at evening but 'something' at morning!

Hi, cutie. I almost laughed when I was reading your vivid description of that woman. It's really annoying to have those smelly people around us, especially in a crowded space like a bus.
Your topic reminded me of what I experienced the other day. I was on the bus, standing next to a woman. All of a sudden, my nose was full of a suffocating smell. I turned around to search where the smell came from and finally I realized it came from the woman next to me. I quickly walked to the other side of the bus but it seemed the whole was filled with her smell. How annoying. These people need to do something to get rid of their unpleasant smell.

I'm with you on this one. We are not alone in this world! and so we have to consider other people. You don't have to smell great, but you should not smell when you join the world. I have a very acute sense of smell and I cannot stand (or sit) beside someone who smells. Of course I take into consideration people who have nowhere to live, ergo nowhere to take a bath.

a few years back, I couldn't leave the house without atleast taking a shower, but now, I can leave the house/resort without showering. BUT here's the catch, I brush my teeth and wash my face before I leave. I put on fresh clothes and dab some cologne on me so that I don't smell like the bed. (I know this is disgusting but I do this when I'm on an outing and the bathroom is so disgusting, or when at home, when I'm going out to buy something from a sarisari store)
I don't mind people not taking a bath before leaving the house, as long as they don't smell bad.
You're right in saying that people can do whatever they can with their bodies, but I also agree with you that they should atleast have the pride of being clean. It's not too much to ask right?

Everybody has got the freedom to do what they want or like. As long as they feel comfortable with the way they are, they won't care much abt other's opinion of them. Those people are selfish without sparing a thought for those around them.
I have experienced such situations many times especially in the evening time when everybody knocked off. I know that those smell are unavoidable but some should have the initiative of not exposing their underarm, making those shorter people a victim of those unpleasant smell.

I see people do this all the time. Sometimes when I go to buy groceries, people are wearing their pajamas and their house slippers. it is not just women, men do it too.
As for the shower thing, I will at least hop in the shower really quick, use some deodarant and spray something on me to make me smell good. I try to look descent. I do not use public transportation, but I know I will be near people. I may just wear a t-shirt and some shorts, but never pajamas.

Indeed, what you do or rather not do in the privacy of your own home, that is one thing. I might not agree with it. I might be disgusted. However, that is your life and when I am not exposed to it, I can live with it. Well actually technically I am not living with it, because I am not the person who is exposed to it. Still, you get the point I am trying to make.
However, if you are going to take public transportation, at least make the effort to make yourself somewhat presentatable. It won't take that much time. Just a little bit of time, just make the effort, is that too much to ask? This is the reason why many people, including me, hate taking public transporation, because there are some real winners on the public transportation system. It is hard to deal with it. So what you do in private, whatever, but if you bring it into public, then we might have just a little bit of a problem.

No you're not judgmental. I agree with you. People should be sensitive to others when in a public place such as a public transport. If others are making sure that they are clean. Then they should do so. We have the right to be comfortable even in public places and that includes the people in it.
