This has been bugging me a lot, why do people create computer viruses? I at least understand the concept behind spyware, to make money selling information that you illegally obtained, it's people cutting corners and committing crime for money, I don't agree with it in the slightest but I understand the point. But what about viruses? What is there to gain from corrupting other people's computers? Anyone?

I had a conversation with a computer technician about this. He said, he thinks that the people behind these computer viruses are the people behind anti-virus programs. So you would purchase their anti-virus and they'll be earning a lot. Don't you find it odd that those virus gets "deleted/cured" by the anti virus even if the virus is totally new?

This is totally true. MOst of those who spread the virus are into business selling anti-virus programs.

Some people like to figure out how things work...and Some people, once they've figured that one out, decide they then want to figure out how to make them do something different. And if they can beat someone else at this game,or make money,so much the better.. they want to make a statement by what they do..it's like they want to be rock stars, but keep their anonymity!

Some people just want to prove that they are good at what they do. SOme want to challenge the makers of the operating system to improve their performance and close all loopholes. On the other hand, some are makers of antivirus and they do that to sell their products..too bad..

actually they do it for money..they create a virus as well as they have the answers on how to debug it..people now are genius..they use their ability just to make money..the good thing there is that, they actually teach people to be more careful the next time..

As I know computer programmers who are veteran in their field become mad and act in wrong way by creating viruses to trouble people and the world and of course to make money by creating anti-viruses too...

People who make the virus and scattered it to all computer are the one also who sell anti-virus. By doing this they can make money out of it. Who will buy their anti-virus if they don't make virus so their product will be used. It simple concept, so be careful in joining a site or entering a site that is dangerous to your unit.

I have this thought before that viruses are created so we have a reason to buy antivirus softwares. I think this is true until now. There's no need for antivirus software if there are no viruses. Other than that I think virus creators have sick minds and just want to ruin something. Maybe its fun for them.

I gave this a lot of thought years ago as I recall being affected once or twice. Now I have learned how to safe guard, protect and be cautious.
The only thing I can surmise from people intentionally apply viruses is that is a thrill, as those who taint foods and medication. What other possible reason could any one get out intentionally afflicting others. The thrills although I personally do not see any humor in any of it.

For those virus writers, they have various reasons for creating and spreading malware with viruses.
Usually, virus is created as research projects to attack the products of specific companies and gain the commercial secrets, or there are also some people who want to gain others' bank accounts and other personal information with virus. Sometimes, some programmers just want to show their talent by creating viruses.
In a word, there are many reasons why people create viruses, but it is a fact that we can get our computer protected with security softwares, or anti-virus softwares.
