when i first met my now mother-in-law she had prepared a lovely meal of pasta and heavily flavoured meat (they are like meatballs if you are not familiar). sadly i hate them, taste, look, knowing what's in them etc. i ate them though as i really did not want to appear fussy. have you ever been in a similar situation when you know how much effort someone has gone to?

Yes, I was in a similar situation with you last time, to eat some food that I don't like because I was a guest. After pushing to eat a little of the food I apologized to the host that I did not like the food. The host was surprised and quickly searched for some ready food in her fridge. I told her not to bother I could eat just vegetable, but she would not hear me. Now, when I am facing the same situation, I will not force myself to eat the food i don't like, but eat something else offered on the table without fuss.

I am very picky when it comes to food. When forced to eat something that I don't stand, usually I confess that I don't eat such food, because of diet I'm on. But anyway I taste it, say my praises and proceed to the other food available. I fear that trying to swallow something I don't like I would make funny faces, and offend the host much more than refusing to eat.

I couldn't remember being in a situation where I am forced to eat something that I don't like. It must have been awful. If I were in your place I would probably just pretend that I am on a diet or a vegetarian or probably just eat a little and then say that I am full.
