Did you ever give gifts to the teacher?

My son will start to go to the primary school since this September. This morning his teacher came to our home for the first visit. We were a little nervous. And I bought a department store coupon as the gift for the teacher, so that she may treat my son better in the school However, this teacher didn't accept the gift. She seems to be a nice teacher But I will still send this coupon to her in the Teacher's Day because I already bought the coupon and I don't want to spend it by myself.

Teachers coming to home? I have never had any of my teachers requesting to see my home. They would have run away seeing what kind of a shhhhhhh house it is. I have given gifts to my teachers but not for such purposes. There were times where I did some business flirting with teachers to get in their mind. It's very handy to know a bit of NLP patterns like mirroring, and the Zeigarnik effect.

At least the teachers will visit the pupils' homes and then get to know each other.

youless, It will be inappropriate for the teachers to accept gifts whether it be big or small as they need to be impartial and are under close scrutiny by parents and the school. In some countries, teachers are regarded as public servants, as such accepting gifts can be deemed as corruption and could be prosecuted by the law. I do not say that you are wrong but you need to realize that it would be quite difficult for them to carry out their duty if all the parents were to come with gifts hoping that their children will receive "more" attention from them. Besides, it is every teacher's responsibility to teach and care for those under their charge. So, I am sure your son will not be neglected by him/her.

I know you are quite right. But sometimes the fact is different. My son's primary school is already better because it seems most teachers are not greedy. I know a primary school that the parents even pay for the teachers to have a travel abroad.

Some schools do not allow gifts to the teachers, so you may have to consider that. Otherwise, that was very thoughtful, because she can get something she needs. Maybe she can get something for the classroom if that is not the case.

i don't "bribe" my daughters teachers into helping her more or favortising her in class. I have bought a few things for my daughters teachers through out the last few years though. Her kindergarten teacher was the sweetest most caring lady i have met, she was going through a rough illness and was in an out of school so my daughter suggested we make her cards and buy her flowers which we did along with a "get well" angel figurine. Her first grade teacher was mixed up when my daughter said she didnt get to see her daddy anymore and started sending home little gifts herself thinking my husband and i got a divorce when really he just started on the second shift instead of first, so to thank her for her gifts though unnessacary, we got her a gift. and her third grade teacher hurt herself during christmas vacation and was out of school for 8 weeks, so when she returned we got her flowers and a card. "welcoming her back". My daughter has also bonded closely with a few of her "specials" teachers ( music art, gym etc.) so she wanted to spend her allowance to get them all something special at the END of the school year. I think if you have a child and they go to school and they come home happy and learned something then you can give the teacher a gift of "thanks" not the other way around to bribe them

Your words are reasonable. And it works for all good teachers who don't care about the benefits. The best return is the children grow up happily and study well.

In my school days i was given many gifts to favarite teachers(mr.srinivas sir, smt.sukumari ma'am, singh sir, biology sir) on the occassion of Teachers day on Nov5th. And in my school days in am the class first, so they prefer me and they also given me many gifts and many valuable gifts. I store them all in my room and i store their valuable words in my heart.... And my parents are not educated, so they haven't meet my teachers. And now in engineering there is no bond between a lecturer and a student....

I am guilty to call them gifts, in fact, they were bribes! When my kids were younger and in bording schools, I had to literally bribe their teachers to put them on the front seats where they can learn better from the teachers.

I think to teaher it's their duty to teach their students and should be responsible .My parents are all teachers ,they are very good teachers.they were retired many years ago.they never accept any gifts of their students and were very responsible to them.now i'm also a teacher.my parents are my good example.there are some teachers in our society today they are not responsible to their students .some of then even ask gife for students' parents.

I had given my trainer a token of appreciation. It is just like simple souvenir to thank her for being a good trainer and a motivator too. With my kids teachers, yes i do give gifts esp with special occasion like teachers day. Teachers needs to be appreciated for being grateful to teach and took care of our kids when they're at school. have a good day always

When i was in grade school, I always gave a gift to my teacher. When my own children were in grade school, they did the same. It is a good feeling to give a gift to a teacher that you have admiration and respect for.

When I was in elementary, I used to give gifts to my teachers. My mom and my teachers are teaching in the same school and they know each other well, so its okay to give gifts cause there are some who give gifts but they also expect something in return.

It's a common practice in Indonesia. Just like your reason that our son or daughter will be treated well in school. The ironic thing is the parents who give presents to the teachers also expect good marks for their children. That's why often the presents were given just before the students got the rapports.

Actually my child will start grade 1 since September 1st. I am afraid if others' parents give gifts to the teacher but we don't, it may not be a good thing.

Yes, you need to go by what's usually done in your place or your country. Otherwise, the teachers who are accustom to receive gifts will think differently. But as in your discussion here, the teacher is a good one for not accepting gifts.

Happy New Year, youless. When I graduated from college, I went to visit my loved English teacher in the senior high school with some fruits. This is my most loved teacher through all the years I was at school, but it is a pity that I cannot stay in touch with him as he moved to another province. I wish I could find him and revisit him again with some nice gifts some day. Take care.

If a student wants to give a present to his teacher after graduated from school, then this must be a good teacher.

If she didnt accept it the first time you should not attempt to give it to her again. It was a very nice gesture on your part but if she wasent willing to accept it you shouldnt try to push her. Last year in kindergarten the teacher would only accept gifts that the whole class could use such as a board game. This year the teacher wont allow any gifts at all as it might make the other kids feel bad when they didnt bring anything in. When I was in school every year my mother sent a present to school with us for the teacher. Usually a mug or something like that.

I do love my teacher very much and when i was in schools then every year we collect money from our classmate and give gifts to our teacher as for love. Have a good day!

I gave my teachers gifts every Christmas. It is one way of showing our appreciation. Sometimes it is actually a class contribution. If Christmas is near, we will contribute something every day so we can save money for a gift.

Hello dear,It is definately not a good idea to give the gift to teachers to treat your child well.It would be definately hearting for a good teacher. When I was in the shcool me and my classmates celebrated the teacher day in the school every year.Offcourse all the teachers were chief guest there. We gift them a hand made greeting cards, flowers and sweets to them.Teacher plays very importent role in our life we should be always thankful to them.
