Most people tend to fake happiness when they have to, when they needed to...when they're with their bosses, when they're out having lunch with someone they just met, when with in-laws specially when all eyes are on you, etc...But some just can't hide sadness as much as they wanted others to know that they're full of gladness even if they're drowning with tears on the inside. Well that's because I believe you cannot fake happiness...smiling does not necessarily mean you are happy...True happiness has to come from within you...Once it's overflows from the inside, it will come rushing out NATURALLY, UNSTOPPABLY...

Should i say agree or disagree with you? i seldom reveal my feeling to others, especially when i'm not in the good mood. as what you mentioned, i was worry that my feeling is going to ruin others feeling as well. but is good to be honest with our true feeling, keeping everything deep inside our heart will make us sick. Sometimes i just find hard to get a friend who can really understand me, because i am just keeping everything with me. I guess it's time for me to change...

I believe that we cannot fake happiness. Some people may be really good in hiding their feelings. But in our solitude or in times where we are at home, alone and no one see us, we tend to show that we are not really happy. But I still believe that happiness is choice. We can choose to be happy in spite and despite of the things that are happening around us. Comedians are very good in hiding their emotions. The may look very happy at all times, they can even make other people laugh, but these people do have problems and serious problems behind their happy mask.

I can fake happiness for the benefit of my love ones..For them not to see what I'm going through and I don't want them to share my agonies.., I't not that I don't need them to listen and help me.., I just don't want them ruin their mood because of me.., So I will have to paste a smile on my face and make a facade of happiness..=)

I'm too. But sometimes I can't do it when I'm really sad and I need any one to share my feelings.

certainly wat u said is true ! faking happiness in different situations is happening. but for me if my fake smile make my dear ones and loved ones to stay cool i will do,that is not meant to fake smile a slight adjustment in situation!!
but to be frank it is not necessary when with bosses and team, unfortunetely we will in situation to save our space with others,it also called a way to create a rapo !!!!sometimes it works ......sometimes it is not:)

Hi Len,
Welcome to Mylot! You are right. You can't really fake true happiness. Still, quite often in smiling when you don't feel like it and "acting" happy even though your heart is aching, you attract others who are really happy. In doing so, very often you will eventually become for real happy yourself and even if for just a while you might be able to forget your troubles. I work in the public so I have to put on my smiley face no matter what is going on in my personal life. It does work!

Hehe.........I am naturally a happy guy and that is why if I try to fake happiness it doesn't take much effort for me even when I am sad.

This is a good question. I think many women do that compared to men. I can fake happiness. I think I am a good actor, but I don't find any reason to fake my happiness. I don't want to give fake experssions or create fake feelings in others. So, I just don't prefer to be like that. I have faked happiness a few times especially when I was upset about my personal issues, but I couldn't atleast fake happiness for somebody else's good reason.

Hi there, I totally agree. But I still do fake it... it probably looks very fake too. I've read in Walden that politeness is to be pretty much fake. "Hi, How are you?" "Fine." That answer automatically comes out for me, and then I think, am I really? Anyways, I'm still in the search for mine so for now, I may fake it but NO, one can never fake TRUE happiness. Like you said, it comes form within.

Perhaps happiness can be faked on the outside, but you can never lie to yourself. I know many people who "pretend" all is well, but you just know there is a lot of sorrow within them, and they're just trying to cover it up. It's hard to say which is better though . . . faking happiness, or showing truthful negativeness all the time - neither really. Yes, true happiness comes from within.

You have to be very good actors to fake any of these emotions, happiness, sadness. Your body finds it hard to lie. They show in our gestures, our moods and the way we do things.
Yes, happiness, sadness, they come from within..

Hello there! Thank you for this nice topic. Yes I am able to know if the person I am talking with is really happy or not. Some of my friends would tell me some of their problems but they could still handle it and can still put a fake smile on their faces. It is in their eyes that shows that they are really not happy. there would be a glow in their faces because of the big smile on their faces but the glow in their eyes is not there. This also a good way of doing that because at least they are not able to bring their problems from their home to their work place.

I think it's possible to fake happiness on the outside. Anyone can paste a phony smile on their face. Anyone can announce to the world how happy they are. One thing you can not do is fake your happiness inside. Sooner or later your unhappiness will show through and people will see your facade.

hi len!
yes i can do that either for happiness or sadness. when i feel sad i tend to hide it from others as i don't like to burden them as they already have their own difficulties.even if they are in a very good mood i wont mess up the day with my sadness.yes, perhaps smile doesn't mean we are happy but people nowadays are too busy with their things and with that single smile they will assume that you are okay and happy.for their sake of happiness the fake one can be made.

happiness can definitely be fake just to show to people that you are okay. However, people knows what genuine happiness is. Sometimes we are being forced to act happy in our outward expression so people wouldn't bother asking if we are not okay, so better act that we are truly happy just outward but never within.

Absolutely correct! It's really true that one can't fake happiness, maybe you can fake it for the mean time but later on it will be very obvious that sooner or later. We can't even blame them for faking happiness, whatever reason they have I hope it's for the good of everybody. Sometimes it's better to fake happiness so that other person will not get hurt.

You cant fake the happines. Its because even in our eyes we can show to the people that we are happy or not. Even your laughing, it can be shown that it is real or fake.. We cant buy happiness, It should be natural and not against to us. Happines is a treasure and cannot buy for a money

..right, i agree with you, although personally im the type of person who has a difficulty in hiding my real emotion...it's not that it is wrong to hide your real emotions, it is just that there are those times that calls for it for few reasons..one to avoid conflicts and misunderstanding, second to avoid hurting others and a few others....
