like the scenes in the movie which I have just watched...
I tend to feel scared after watching a horror movie to the extent that even a visit to the toilet is scary without someone to accompany me. It seems that there is "something" lurking around the corners waiting to pounce. I would try to counteract it by thinking logically: it is just my mind playing tricks and my imagination is working overtime here. It usually worked, but then the feeling may appear again after a few days when I recall the movie and especially when I'm alone in the house.
Do you feel like that after watching horror movies?

Yes, I do have that feeling. That is why as much as possible, I avoid watching horror movies because the scariest part was left imprinted in my mind. I have a long memory retention with movie scenes, so even if I try not to think about it, it still rewind on my mind. Some of my friends laugh at me because of it, they say I am too tall to be that coward with just movies.

I guess you have a vivid imagination, that's why the scenes and memories tend to stick with you, sometimes becoming more real than it was originally. Being afraid has nothing to do with courage or even height, strange that your friends said that.

That is Precisely why I do not watch Horror movies. I don't understand why people would want to feel terrified. I don't think it is a good felling. SO I do not like horror, scary movies.. I can watch some sci-fi and movies that are even gross. That doesn't bother me. IF it's scary but funny -That's okay- but I do not watch staight horror movies.. I don't like jumping out of my skin!

Yes, sometimes, But the fact that they are science fiction makes them so unreal sometimes that it's easier to think of it all as a joke. OR to see how well they made up the story. Is it plausible that this can happen in the future? maybe. I like some of those things - like the new star trek movie and How they have no created an alternate time line so that they can change the whole movie course and still start off from the beginning.

It seems that since horror movies make people scared and terrified, there is actually a lot of negative energy created. I guess this is no good for our well-being. It's good that you are avoiding them. Well, can sci-fi movies be scary too?

Does Avatar qualify as a sci-fi movie?
I have seen and enjoyed the old Star Trek movies but the new ones were not as good (my opinion only, I have only seen one and have given up).

Hello bluemoonpavilion,
It is common amongst many of us i guess. Happens with me too, although, i imagine i have some powers to defeat the evil. I would like to make it come out of the darkness and then i would be able to fight it! It has supernatural powers and i have superhero powers! Although if the movie was too scary i would feel less confident. But then again, you will have to fight it to overcome it.
You have some superpowers too, you need to find them within you.

That is such a good strategy, to imagine yourself as some superhero to fight the evil, hahaha! I think I can try that and hopefully I can convince myself not to be afraid anymore, it's so unbecoming of a heroine. lol.

There are some movies that scare me enough that I find myself wanting to have someone go with me wherever I go for a while after I watch them. There have even been a few that have given me nightmares. Usually, though, it is the ones that are based on real-life events that affect me the most, because it is not just some fiction that someone thought up in their warped and twisted minds for entertainment ... well, I guess that could be the way that these killers viewed their activities (as entertainment), but they really did all those horrid and unthinkable things to their victims, and those movies are the ones that really terrify me.

I think there are some movies that I would rather miss, like the real life ones you mentioned.
I remember watching SAW and thinking about it now still gave me the creeps. Another one was Silence of the Lambs.

Oh yeah, both of those were pretty bad. There was one that we watched recently, and a group of people psychologically tortured a couple all night long just for fun. Then, come the morning, the real physical torture started. When the couple asked why they were doing it, one of the people in the group said only "Because you were home and answered the door". The group had neither been caught nor even identified at the time the movie was released, and this all took place only about four years ago.

I heard of this movie which was quite recent, a few months ago or something? I didn't know it was based on a real story. The group was sadistic to torture the couple just because they were there at the wrong place at the wrong time.

...Hi there bluemoon, I watched a movie a long time ago called "Looking For Mr. Goodbar", it was not even a horror movie. But very suspenseful. I was alone in my apartment, it was at night. I didn't realize it but the movie went into my sub-concious and that night when I went to sleep, I had the most awful nightmares. I promised myself I would never knowingly watch a scary movie again at night. I think I can handle them in the daytime but not when it's dark and creepy things seem to happen "o) I can relate to the feelings you had. Take it easy.

Hi art,
So your dream seemed to be a continuation of the movie....
But then again, scary movies are usually shown at night time, to complete the eerie feeling, probably it's no fun to watch it in the day.

I like horror films and scary films because I know that they aren't real.

Rationally I know it's not real, but when I am in it, I still get affected, it's the combination of scenes, sounds and dialogue that gave one the eerie feeling.

Hehe, this happens to me too, not just with horror movies but with books too. I often stay up late reading my thrillers and end up going to bed affraid of the dark. One thing I do not like is mirrors and reflections and you know when your eyes are tired how the shadows play tricks with you? Yes I hate it, but not enought to stop reading my books. LOL!

Oh ya, mirrors are a real horror, I tried to avoid looking at it when I didn't switch on lights at night.
Books are still subject to imagination, so I can somehow reduce the intensity of horror described in books. However, in movies, the sight and sounds are really hair-raising, and I would peep through my fingers during some parts. But, usually these are the parts which will evolve later.... lol

Yes, it does. That's why I'm not to fond with horror movies, cause most of the time I will scream, or close my eyes with pillows. My husband never enjoys to watch horror with me, since I always disturb him with noise.

Hi qianyun!
I don't watch many of these and when I do, I make sure someone is with me, wouldn't like to attempt to brave it out alone in the darkness.
...and I agree it's bad for health....

yup i just don't really like horror movies coz its images will stay with me for awhile. It is a wonder what the mind can conjure up.
There are the visually scary movies and those that play on your imagination. Plus the "exciting" music, one can literally jump out from one's skin. I vividly remember watching the movies "Exorcist" and "The Omen" out of curiosity and I was rewarded .... with a vivid imagination running overtime. Ha!

So well-described! Music does play a large part in creating the atmosphere and sometimes cast permanent imprints on our minds.

I shall do that next time.
