Sorry for my ignorance but what is the story behind the holiday called thanksgiving? I mean how did it all start. If I am right is celebrated every November right? What I know about is that on this day the most essential dish on the dinner table is the turkey...how did it all start too? Could you please shed some light? We do not celebrate thanksgiving here in my country.

Thanksgiving is the holiday that is celebrated to give thanks for the harvest of the year. It started shortly after the first Pilgrims arrived in the new world. In the first several months that the pilgrims were here there were many fatalities and a lot of difficulties from adapting to their new environment. This holiday is to celebrate the fact that they were able to overcome the adversity that they faced and that they were able to survive.

I think Thanksgiving Day was first celebrated by the pilgrims; the first immigrants from Europe who survived the harsh winter of North America. Whatever food or produce they had, they offered it thanking the Lord for safety, health and abundance.
