I don't think I have ever bought a book with the last page missing but I inherited a book with part of the back cover and either part of the last page or the whole last page missing. It did but didn't really bother me and if I ever want to read the entire book I can just buy a newer copy and put the other one up for sentimental reasons.

Very, very annoying especially if the book is hard to replace or buy again. I have never read a book with the last page missing but I have got 3/4 way through a book only to find that a vital page is missing. Personally I would just throw the book away if it was missing a page or if a page was loose instead of giving it to a charity shop or second-hand bookshop.

That's sad. And, considering that you bought it in a thrift store, it would be hard to find another copy. Fortunately for me all the books I've bought in a secondhand store are complete. Maybe, the next time, have a glance at the last page to make sure it's complete.
Oh, I remember one time, I found an old romance paperback in my parents' house. I read the book and found out there was no last page. I never knew what happened in the end.

That's horrible, in a funny sort of way lol. I am glad it hasn't happened to me, and I hope it never will. I do make it a point to leaf through a book to see if it looks intact. I saw a book yesterday (Needful Things by Stephen King) in my favorite used-book store and the first page was vandalized, the words Things and Stephen were blacked out. I didn't buy it! You never know if there are words that are also blacked out in the book.

I'd generally flick through the book before buying to make sure that it was undamaged.

Aaahhhhhhh!!! What a frustrating thing to have happen to you. Who tears the last pages out of books? Why, WHY?
Thanks for this discussion, I shop a lot at second hand book stores. I will now start verifying that the last page is in tact.

I collect the last pages of books and everytime I donate I book to an secondhand shop I tear out the last page and put it in my collection
No, I am joking. I would never do that! It has happened to me a couple of times and it so annoying. I often buy second hand books and sometimes some of the pages are missing. I usually flip through the books before I buy them to see if they are okay, but sometimes I don't notice the missing pages till I have already started reading the book.
The same thing happens with librarybooks sometimes, I have seen several books where someone has removed some of the pages. I always tell the librian about it when I notice a book like that and they remove it from the shelves, but I wish they people would stop tearing out the pages, because they ruin the books for other users

I did it! I'm sorry. I wrote a phone number down on the last page and I didn't want to lose it.
No, I'm kidding. I would never tear a page out of a book. That's just unthinkable to me. Like throwing a stone at a stained glass window or tossing a bucket of black paint on the work of Leonardo Da Vinci. It's a crime against art and beauty! No way!
I've never bought a used book with a page missing, though I did have one once that the previous owner had possibly used as a coloring book. I prefer to buy books new anyway. Sorry you're missing the last page! I hope you can find out what happened!

Hahaha, it happened to me too. I also buy secondhand books. It's really annoying especially when the story is good. From then on, every time I bought secondhand books I checked on the last page if it's still there. But when I read the book, whoah! some of the middle pages were gone. Grrrr... A lesson learned. So I checked if all the pages still intact. And you would understand the dilemma of other people who have the same experience like this. Tendencies are you don't want to rip a good pages or any other pages if you love books. All you do is care for that book and if you see a page that's going to be ripped, you have to tape it back.
