Head lice

I have a problem, my daughters were infested by head lice. I think they got it from their cousins who were infested, too. Their heads got small wounds now because of frequent scratching. I already bought a product best for head lice but I can't apply it on their heads because of that wounds. We use fine toothed comb everyday but they seem to keep on growing. I was informed by a friend that a certain shampoo can cause them to grow more. So,we refrain from using it and they really don't want to use it now. Are there other ways to control and eliminate it?

i have experienced it too when i was a kid though i tried to be as net and clean as possible, same as through with my cousins of very young ages. some people tell me that head lice is caused by too much heat. i suggest that your kids try not to scratch their heads with their nails. try scratching their head with their fingers (again, not nails.) and when wounds heal, try to use anti lice shampoos. sooner or later, those lice will go away from your kids' heads.

Actually bautistaanna, lice are caused by touching or being near someone else who has it. As for trying to keep clean, that is a myth as you can see in my response. Lice love neat clean heads and other than not washing your hair, the only other thing that will block them is hairspray.

i used to buy a medicated shampoo, the name of which i forgot. it was a prescription from a doctor. lice can easily transfer. the school is one prevalent source. it really made me uncomfortable seeing lice in my children's head.

I remember when we were kids, we also have hea lice and our mom would always get them manually one by one, lolz. Our hair was massaged with coconut oil and brushed by a small towel, the every night, mom would get the lice off our hair and head by pulling them out one by one. It hurts but I guess her patience and our patience paid off.. because little by little, lice were gone.

I think there is a powder, but not too sure. It has been at least 25 years since our school had that problem. I do know that the school nurse used to do it when I was at school but that has been years ago. But since I have no idea how to do it, I did the next best thing, went on the net. http://www.make-stuff.com/formulas/lice.html I do not know if this will work when the girls are already scratching their heads, but it is worth a try.

It's a been a long time since my daughter was in elementary school. It was back then when she had all the problems ( 2 times a week for 3 weeks) It was a crazy time and I literally yelled at the principal of the school for being so shoddy about the environment.....Long story short, had a friend who's son never ever had an issue, the trick was hairspray..Lice love clean hair - a bit of hairspray, comb it through and it should work. As for the wounds, hopefully someone has shared very good advice. I feel your irritation, remember it well.

Yes. it sounds gross, but buy a jar of mayonnaise and put the whole thing on your child's head...leave it there for at least 8 hours. this will suffocate some of them, and weaken the glue that holds the nits in place. then...order this stuff: http://www.americarx.com/products/7314.html the comb is very metal and very effective, it is completely non-toxic, and will kill the BETTER than the pesticide stuff without causing your child brain damage. Check your local free clinic first to see if you can get it there. make sure you go through the child's hair THOROUGHLY no matter what you use...if you leave nits behind they will come back..but this stuff will help loosen the glue so it comes right out in the comb. Bag up all stuffed animals, put pillows in the dryer for 20 minutes, and do any laundry that is in the child's room, including bedding. Hope this helps!

I did have a head lice before when I was a child. My mother switched the shampoo we were using to Rejoice. Maybe the Rejoice shampoo is so strong that eliminate the lies. And as far as I remember, my mother do not want us to play on outside the house during afternoon. She warned us and adviced us to sleep after school. My lice was eliminated and just one day it was all gone. And I used to separate myself from the student with head lice.

The suggestion of seeing a doctor because of the wounds is a good one. But here is a tip I noticed no one mentioned, but it may not only help relieve the wounds, but may even take care of most if not all the head lice. Have you ever done a hot oil treatment before? I prefer to use olive oil, and what you do is heat it up, not to where it is burning hot, but very warm. Then take cotton balls and saturate your daughters head, from root to tip. Then cover her head with plastic wrap and a warm damp towel for 1/2 hour..Then wash. (You may have to wash the hair 2-3 times to get all the oil out. What this does is one, lice hate oily and greasy hair, which is why the myth that people get lice from not washing their hair. and two, it is now mush easier to slide those lice and nits out..You may have to do this quite a few times, or until the wounds heal and then you can use the chemical shampoo meant for lice. Also, wash everything that has come in contact with your daughters head, including all bed sheets and hair brushes. With furniture you would have to vacuum or even treat it with a special powder or spray that kills lice.

It happened to my children recently because they were used to play under the sun while having a break in school. Aside from using a fine-toothed comb, I went to pharmacy "Mercury" and bought 2 bottles of head lice shampoo and used it on my kids once every 3 days and combed hair with fine-toothed comb afterwards. No longer recall the name. Feel free to ask the pharmacist and follow the instructions.

I don't remember dealing with head lice problem when I was a kid. But I do remember my cousin who is really infested with head lice. My auntie has no choice but to shave my cousin's hair. They did that and of course all the lice were removed. Good thing my cousin was only 5 years old back then. She will really hate her mom if she shave her hair again.

I think each one of us goes through this kind of stage. From my experience (myself when I was young and some kids I know from before till now), shampoo for lice is always effective. Also since you said that they have wounds, it is best to consult a doctor first and have the wounds treated. Then also ask for a good shampoo.
