suggests there could be a new way to live ... Personally I think it saves resources on the planet leaving enough for every one. ... assuming that there may not be enough resources for every one everywhere on the planet.

Wow these minimalists are awesome. I don't know why but I get easily attached to my stuff that I find it hard to throw away most of my stuff - even if I know it's pretty useless. It's so easy for me to attach sentimental values to my belongings. I will try though. This is an interesting challenge.

I recall certain work assignments where a person is required to relocate for a year or more in a foreign country. For instance if one's family is not coming along, a person seems to find an interesting existence in a foreign country...
Some experts in the knowledge industry such as programmer and analysts seem to dwell in the knowledge domain and may tend to forget most everything else...

I can completely relate to the expats who live an interesting life in a foreign land because I'm away from my family and it feels completely different. I miss them but I'm living a different life which is also good. I can see the connection. I'll loosen my grip on these stuff and give them away and try living the minimalist's lifestyle for once. thanks for posting. this one really got me. :)

The advocates of the role of the family in society may have a very different view. It seems generally accepted that the family is the foundation of a strong society. If one were to live minimally for prolonged period, it might compromise one's ability to be part of a family i.e. cooperate with a spouse and raise children.
