i love a good book but i hate it when the front cover is nothing to do with the story. the characters in a love story are sometimes completley different from the cover art work like they have different colour hair or the main romantic herohas the wrong uniform on. to my way of thinking the artist who drew for the front cover did'nt even bother to read the book and that's just not right. what do you think or have you ever noticed this for yourself?

I haven't really noticed all that much covers that don't reflect the book itself. I wonder how they commission the artist, if say the author tells the artist what color hair the character has, ya know just the way they see them or not. I suppose on covers that have nothing to do with the book the artist just draws, who is to say they do the coloring in?
Oh I don't know! LOL!

I haven't so much noticed this but maybe it is the books I read. I had one series that I just loved but in the middle it made a big change and one character had a couple different birth dates that surprised me. I think it was probley another author taking over for the first one as they do this sometimes.

Well... don't judge a book by its cover.
Actually... I wind up picking up a lot of books just because I like the cover art. But I also pick up books on a whim because of cool titles or the author has a really awesome name.
I don't particularly like it when the cover doesn't match up with what's in the book either. I also don't like it when it seems the title was picked at random (or for some crazy symbolic reason) and also has nothing to do with the content of the book. I like the cover should be a reflection of what's in the book. But you know that more often than not, authors don't have much say in what goes on the cover of their books, right? Usually it's the publisher that makes that decision.

Sometimes the book cover doesn't seem to have anything to do with the content of the book, and sometimes I have not wanted to read certain books in public because the cover makes it look like something stupid or childish. I think all covers are made to make people buy the book, but sometimes the result is the opposite.

I really don't read much love story but I do get your point. I always wonder who chose the cover for a particular book. Is it the author or the publisher? If its the author I think the cover will be perfect for the book. But if its the publisher then its possible that they'll just choose the one that they think is the best in terms of aesthetics. Anyway as long as the story is very good I can forgive and forget the cover artist.

Sometimes i will buy a book just for the cover illustration. they can indeed be misleading. they make the cover so enticing you can't help but buy it. It is disappointing to start reading the book and find it has nothing to do at all with what you thought it was going to be. But i bite the bullet and read it any way.

Yes, I've noticed this too on occasion, but usually I see covers that do indeed relate to the actual book content but just aren't accurate in depicting characters or scenes. This may indicate that the artist didn't read the book, but it might also be that the artist was commissioned by someone to do a picture from just a set of guidelines given to him/her without the book ever being mentioned. I suspect that a lot of artists that do book covers just don't have time to read every book they do covers for and thus only get limited information with which to do a picture.
It is frustrating sometimes that the cover art doesn't match the book's content, but I guess it's a frustration that book lovers have to put up with. Plus, they say you can't judge a book by it's cover!
