Have you ever dreamed a family member died, and later they did?

When i was about 5 years old i kept having this dream that my mother was really sick and she died. I kept having this dream over and over for months. I told her about it because it really scared me, and like any parent would say "im never going to leave you baby". My mom died with cancer when i was 12 years old. Do you think i had a premonition or just a coincident that she just happen to get sick and die? I think about this all the time, I don't know if its possible to control your dreams, but i almost blame myself. I feel like if i never had the dream then she would still be here.
