when gump send his song to school bus, he told many details his son should notice. The bus driver looked the little boy thinking he was the same with his father. The old driver watched saying"you understand this is the bus to school, now , dont you" "of course, and you are Dorothy harris, and i'm forest gump" little forest responded and waved to his father. Forrest watched the bus leaving and the feather flied to the sky. what do you think the feather means? i thought it is a hope, a brand-new start, little forest.

In my mind ,the feather is a metaphor ,which represents people 's destiny.in the movie, the feather can only float in the wind ,which resemble people's destiny in form.In Forrest Gump ,even gump is very lucky ,get nearly everything others want,he lost what he loves the most ,Jenny and his mom.gump is destined to gain wealth and health ,just like to lose family and lover.he can't manipulate his destiny like the feather . what do you say ?

Well, If you remember, the movie starts at the present, then flashbacks and then reverts back to the present. The feather serves two purposes 1. the cinematic: it introduces us to Forrest Gump. Think about the scene without the feather. A long shot of Tom Hanks sitting in a bus stand and then a close-up.No Big deal. But with the feather, the camera gets the freedom to portray not only Tom Hanks but the surroundings-or the society of Gump-where he belongs to. It shows him from up, from down.. etc wherever. It is a piece of creative genius by the director. 2. You can say that it means that 'what will happen-will happen" but i am more convinced that reason 1 is the actual reason.

The feather serves as a transition phase of the movie, from being a child, grow up, being in-love, got married and a father to his son. It is like narrating the flow of the story.
