can you or do prefer to work while the tv/music is on? are you sensitive to noise that it easily distracts you from what you are seriously working/studying/reading on? if yes, how do you deal with it?

Yes, I can fairly easily do that. I actually prefer it if the television is on, when I'm doing work. Even now, doing my undergraduate studies, I feel more comfortable doing my work with the television on. I'm just used to it. And I don't feel entirely comfortable doing work in complete silence.

well, dodo that's something. i remember i read several years back of a person who passed a national board exam and came at the first five of the list for passers, and she admitted to being able to concentrate studying more while the tv's on, wow! tnx for the response, dodo!

It depend on the classification of the jobs, I think. Because there is a jobs, that good to listen music while doing it. While there's a job, that distract everything while sound or noise in on going... Have a great day!

When I was student I really like studying while the music is on while I am reading that helps me to remember all those articles that I have read. But of course I can't watch TV or else it will take me so long to finish my studies. Then since my work is in line of art then I could be able to work with music. But then when it was about calling the clients then I don't really prefer that there should be music on it because it easily distracts me.

When I work or study I seriously concentrate on the work on hand. I feel irritated if any one disturbs in the middle of my work.Naturally I do not like TV or radio on while I am studying or working.Light music is alright when I am doing routine domestic duties.

I don't have a TV where I work so I'm not sure if it will distract me from what I'm doing but I do listen to music from my iPod while doing school work. There are times when I would get distracted by the music playing because I would listen to it instead of doing what I am supposed to do but that just happens when I get new songs. I do get severely distracted though when other people decides to play their music whilst blaring their speaker volumes. I just move to another place when this happens or tell them to move elsewhere. The latter is usually ignored. :D

I actually find that I work better with noise in the background. It was funny, the other day, I went decided to take my mini dvd player to work. I had a mini series in and my boss walked in, she was shocked at how much more I got accomplished versus just having it completely silent. I find that I tune in more to what I am working on that is more important through having something on in the background.

almost always, i work with the radio on... a soft background music is inspiring and puts the focus on a high level... and when i am trying to beat the deadline, i have a news station on... just let it blurb and when something catches my attention, i take my eyes off from the screen and listen for a while... it's a good way of breaking routine and re-charging the mental juices... and, when i am reading a book, i have a background music... from the radio, of course... putting a player is quite cumbersome, having to load the player now and then...

I like working with some noise in the background. I don't know, it keeps me alert. I usually keep the TV on in some non-distracting channel. Or I keep the radio on, playing piano or rock music. I find that I am more productive if I hear "busy" sounds.

The only way I can work is with some kind of music or sound on in the background. I'm watching CNN now, and a few minutes ago I was listening to music on the radio. If I don't have something on in the background, I'm too distracted by unpredictable noises around me.

When I am on the computer the t.v. is always on. I guess I need background noise. It is not loud, just enough that I can hear somekind of noise. I alot of time I have the "on demand" radio on the t.v. going. I need some type of noise in the background, otherwise, believe it or not, I can't concentrate when it is quiet in the house.

haha! that's true, some people need a little background sound or noise to feel some other activity and help with the work concentration. personally, i like having music on background, as long as i like it and it's not too loud. tnx for the comment, gdesjardin!

I don't know how I deal with it, but I can even sleep even with loud music. Maybe if you want to work you'd just better ignore it or pretend that you don't hear anything. Or you could just swing yourself through the music so that you won't be irritated.
