OMG! I am wondering why my connection gone after I uninstalled atheros on my system. I don't know about it, I thought it's useless on my system. Today I uninstalled all programs on my system that I don't know why it is there. Almost done I saw this atheros and I uninstalled also few minutes after my YM, MSN, chikka, etc...I tried to browse but can't access all sites.
I went to the room of my friends and ask him if he encounter connection loss or interruption but he can access. So I start thinking why mine can't? So I remember the last program I uninstalled so I borrow his laptop and start searching the net about the program related to wifi which our internet connection here. I found out that ATHEROS is the program we used to connect, this is the reason the sign of WIFI in my taskbar gone.

Lol, what a name for that program. I guess the computer should have warned you before you could actually remove it from your system. Anyone would remove it, had they not known what purpose it was for. Well, i did not do something funny as this, because most of the important softwares and drivers have a name that implies it's importance. Atheros -

Yes, your computer will probably always warn you, but we still get to uninstall drivers because of hurrying, not not reading the dialog box. Maybe this happens to everyone, when we're not focused.

Hello again voldrox,
Might I suggest you use Driver Genius. I use this software to detect all drivers present and drivers that don't exist and needs update on my system, it's quite easy to use. Also, you could get to backup all of your drivers before a reformat or OS reinstall.
Wish that could help.

hi julyteen for the very reason I might uninstall the wrong program I do not uninstall anything but leave that to my computer maintenance guy my son. I once deleted some program on my computer solely on the advice of a friend who got an email telling us this program was a virus spreader and must be deleted. this was one of those scare things where people listened to a non computer expert who was spooked on viruses. It turned out this program I deleted was one very vital to the continued usage of my computer and I had to seek my son to come help me repair the damage I had caused by deleting something that was vital to the running of my computer. I do not heed these scare emails anymore, I just snopes them instead as most are urban legends.

I did it once about ten years ago. At that time I did know about computers, but not everything, especially about networking.
My friend employed me to take care of his cyber cafe. Nearly all of the customers were school children, who came in to chat, play games, and did some downloading. One boy was caught several times visiting adult sites. One of the kids was given access by my friend to use the server.
There was some problem with the network, possibly due to the kids activities. I began uninstalling what I thought was unwanted or unnecessary software. Most were except for one, Wingate.
Since I did not have any installer a technician was called to restore the network. The experience taught me to be more careful.

Atheros, I think is the brand name of the company that manufactures the wireles interface cards.
I haven't experienced uninstalling software that are important, this is because I'm the one who installed all of these. :) But i did get to terminate a program (in task manager) and my system crashed! I was like, dumbfounded!
I guess, it pays to research first before uninstalling something :)
Also, next time you can't connect, you can always use a LAN if you're near a switch/IS-Router :)

I don't ever experience that kind of program regards with my laptop or desktop pc because I know what to remove and not...'coz I am a Computer Science.
However...as a reminder...do some consultation before modifying and altering some components of your devices.
I hope you will learn from that experience.

I believe everybody -- especially those who are very active computer user -- ever encounter such a thing. We did not know, then it happened, then we knew. :)
As for me, nothing major ever happened before because I do care about my PC and always search for information about programs I am going to install or uninstall.
The most important thing is you've got the installation disc or setup files so that when you uninstall something you can get it back.

Atheros is a wifi driver program for Atheros wifi cards, which is what you have in your PC. you need to re-install Atheros drivers that are appropriate for your PC.
