Have any of you guys downloaded the free AVG Anti-Virus software? Does it seem to be a good product, worthy of downloading and installing or just more junk to clog up the computer?

no.. i would say that go for ESET NOD32 and you can find free username and password on internet of 3 months license.i have used AVG 8.5 but it was useless and was totally helpless against regsvr.exe virus.i am using NOD32 for 1year now and have not faced any problem. happy mylotting

I totally agree! AVG can't catch everything unlike ESET NOD32. I have been using this since 2005.

I used it for quite a while and it worked pretty well for me. I didn't notice any increase in junk-mail or anything like that. As a matter of fact, it was recommended to me by someone I know who works on computers. The only reason I got rid of it was that my internet provider offered McAfee for a small monthly price and it is constantly updated. AVG free can only upgrade so much and it not as good as a paid version like the one I now have, but if you are looking for a free virus protection, I feel it is a good one to go with.

I have heard a lot of pros and cons with AVG. I currently run Norton and like it well. I can't stand McAfee and definitely know I don't want it on my computer. I may just renew my subscription to norton. Thanks for responding.

i think it is good. Actually that's about all I use. For a free program it is really good, but then nothing is totally fool proof! I've been using it for quite awhile and it seems to be okay. I haven't heard much bad about it, but I have heard some good about it!

Ive got it, and i think its pretty good. But i dont think it has an anti spam, so it wont protect your junk folder in email (although most emails have there own anti spam these days). It has a good virus scan, and its annoys me less than norton (for some reason, i have never had norton installed on this laptop i write to you with now, but it just scans my pc, and tells me i have something ridclous like 5000 warnings or something and that i need to upgrade to clean them. Honestly, if it happens many more times, im going to write a letter of complaint to norton). But ye, its ok, i mean, its found infections and took them out for me, as well as tell me about unsafe websites, but i am not sure if it is as effective as something like norton, or another one you pay for, but overall, i like it.

Not much more to say. I have higher rate of incoming junk mail since i've installed it on my computer.

It seems like anything you do online anymore causes more junk mail. I get tired of deleting out all the junk before I can read my email. Thanks for responding. .

AVG was good when it was initially launched. Now it does not even detect the new threats. Personally I am using Free MalwareBytes and Panda's Cloud Antivirus. If I not contented with a scan. I download SuperAntiSpyware and Dr Web. I do this when there is a serious infection detected.

If you have no anti-virus software, then I would highly recommend grabbing something and AVG seems as good as any of the other free products. I used to use it religiously, but now use Microsoft's security Essentials. It is also free but there may be system requirements for it.
