They are making redundances where my husband works.

In October my husband will know if he still has a job, they are going to be laying off loads of people at the end of next month.Thankfully my husband knows that he can become a private bailiff if he is one that gets the push,as he has already been offered a job with two companys, plus he has his hgv to fall back on.He said that if he gets the push,he is going to take a few months off any job,as we have savings, aswell as insurances that will cover us for quite sometime, but i am sad to think that there are alot of people where he works that has nothing to fall back on.

My husband is what they class asa civil servant, they are trying to cut back on costs and the only way they can do this,is to make a few people redundant from the civil servants. We will not know if he is one of the ones that are going to be made redundant until the end of next month.Thankfully we plan for every thing that can happen in life and we have money saved aswell as insurance if my husband is made redundant.

verdana the statistics in US are completely wrong. Reason why they say unemployment is improving is because they are only counting the people who are currently receiving benefits.
They are no longer counting the numbers that exhausted their benefits and or never received it. So while they say improving the ones not on those charts have no work. This is a well no fact in US and it is ludicrous for the Government to continue to state it is improving.

If that is the case, it is indeed very sad. Out here, civil servants have permanent job. Once they get the job, they can retire a few months before their retirement date, on health grounds, and let one of their children take over. Likewise, if they die in any accident, their children get a job without having to undergo through usual screening. Effectively, it is inherited for generations. What more, we from private employment cannot even protest. These civil servants are corrupt, and we have to forego our retirement benefits because they accept bribes from our bosses. If we protest, we lose jobs. But civil servants can protest and squeeze out more of tax payers monies. Very very sad state of affairs in our country, especially considering that we dont have any benefits at all. However, I thought your country was better. I am just waking up to new facts. We form our opinions based on the television serials, and movies, and to an extent news. But this is something very sad. Dont you all have any contract that allows you all to remain employed till you all find a suitable job, something like so many months warning?

Honey I am one of those people. For the first time in my life I am unemployed with no benefits or income for the last nine months. So many of us did not get warning or our last check either.
So your concerns are valid and people will hurt and suffer immensely. I went through all my savings and now am broke. What I have learned, although a challenge on a daily basis is I must be content on my new found life.
Bless your family and tell your husband not to take too much time off. Times change and the offer may not be there for too long. Be well.

It is all the waiting that is getting on our nerves to see if he is one of the ones to lose his job.I have alot of money that i have saved, aswell as insurance for redundancy todo with my husband.Thankfully there will always be jobs for people like bailiffs,as that is a job he has been doing for years, also being offered private bailiff jobs are easy to get.

I totally applaud you for having things set up the way you have so that in time of need you have something to fall back on. Very sensible. What you are describing is happening everywhere in your country, more and more cut backs occurring yet still the government spending money like there's no tomorrow.
Times change and it seems the once powerful US of A is no longer. There is way too much debt and way too much unemployment. Yet how many still pretend nothing is wrong and spend like there's no problem?

Ms Tickle,
You got that right. I bet there are thousands of people, including myself right now that reflect on the way things used to be and wish they'd done things differently. Times are tough, but we keep on keeping on. Hopefully, lesson learned and change is created, at least individually, for a better future. Choices. It's all about the choices we make.

I'm glad you guys are in a good position for the worst to come. We would be up a creek w/o a paddle if that happened to us! We'd have to move in with someone and put our things in storage and watch everything like our house and vehicles go BUB-BYE.

Yes, that is horrible. I took a early retirement that I was offered at my job. A couple years later a co-worker told me that they were 'walking people out'. By that I mean they were letting people go and then walking them out of the building I guess for security reasons. I felt so lucky but felt so badly for these others, some of whom I had known personally. How humiliating. How sad.

Oh ya, always though, huh?! And the waiting and having patience is something we could all use more of. I sure don't have any. Maybe the kids will get some in their bags at Halloween. Hehe

Hiya jugs,
Could turn out that he gets a better job in the other places. There is so much of it going on everywhere.
I read about Connaught Homes going down the drain the other Day goodness knows I think they have been going for ages if I remember right.
Ten thousand People extra on the Dole for now.
I won´t say anything more than here it is extremely bad and chronic. In fact before this it always was like that.
Hope he does´nt lose his Job though but then if he does get another one that is indeed very fortunate.

Well, i would encourage your husband to leave the job now than being layed off. At least he knows that he has got jobs out there waiting for him now, and things might change in a couple of months time. It's better to grab hold of the opportunity presented to him.
PLus, if he's unlucky, did not manage to get the job from that 2 companies, at least his resume will look better without the word "layed off".. hehe

I hate to hear that but they say change is a good thing. I have been wondering how you are doing friend. I have been so busy with college online and I have a part time job away from home now as well my online sites do not get all the attention they use to get.
At least you all have something to fall back on like you said. That is what my plan is with my new job, start setting back a little here and there that way if something happens we will be ready to have money and not live like we were a few years ago. It was so hard not having food and all that but now I have been blessed and I want to help others too but I also want people to help themselves as well.

Thankfully we have planned towards our future,as you never know whats around the corner.I am soo pleased that my husband has got a few trades that he can do,as that way he is more likely to walk straight back into work, unlike not having any trades.I also have been saving for sometime, aswell as getting miles ahead of all of the bills.

it's good that you both have savings to help you if he gets laid off,and he will also be there to help you during the day if you need it

He has at last had all the the back pay from all the increase of his wages,so that has gone in our savings account. If he is made redundant then they will have to pay him redundancy pay, that will be alot aswell. He has other trades so we know that he will not be out of work for long, also he has been offered two private bailiff jobs that are alot better pay.I have help during the day,so i am not too worried bout that, aswell as he do alot when he comes home.Thankfully we have been saving for sometime,so we are not worried at the moment as we have enough to keep us going for sometime in the savings accounts.

Well, there are still effects of recession, my brother working as an engineer in Dubai has been retrench from the company also and he transferred to Riyadh but he worked there for only few months and now he is back in our country. How i wish this situation would get better soon. Thanks God, most of the companies here in the Philippines has stopped laying off otherwise our country will be burdened with unemployed citizens.

You are right to be sad. Life is meant to do some work, to have a job. This is for our satisfaction but also to have daily life secured. I always tell my husband when he complains that there are other people who are getting worse than us. Still it is so great to have a secure life by having a job, sometimes any job.

I'm glad that you do have something to fall back on, and some plans afoot. Not that we ever wish to have to resort to them.
I think that many people are in the position that they are not quite sure what is waiting with regard to their employment. In the private sector employers want to keep it that way: it suits them to have employees on tenterhooks while they cash their bonuses whilst relatively untouchable.
Hope that everything goes well for you.

It is a waiting game all of the time with companys to find out if people are going to .lose their jobs.I am thankful that if he is made redundant then they will have to pay hin redundancy pay, also we have savings, aswell as being mile ahead in credit with lots of people. He has just got all his wage increase that they owed him,so we have saved that.

You and your husband are smart. We have millions here who were not prepared to lose their jobs--they spent every dime they made, had no savings and have lost everything. Unfortunately, I don't think this taught anything to half of them. I hope your husband doesn't lose his job but I'm glad you were both smart enough to be prepared.

When my son was in school there was a child that was one of the smartest kids in the class but every time there was test he would get a bad mark. It took the teacher a while but she finally realized that his name was so long that by the time he finished writing his name the test was half over. Needless to say when he was told just to write his first name his marks jumped 100 percent. Unless you are royalty there really is no need for such long names. Believe me the child will not be happy.

It is sad to know that the recession isn't over yet, with news like these. That a lot of people are still losing their jobs. And yes, even sadder knowing that some don't have anything to fall back to.
Good for you that your husband has something else lined up, just in case. But still, I think it would be better if he stayed on, right?
Goodluck to you and to your hubby!
