Dear fellow lotters i hope this case will not happen to you, last night i was in a restaurant for dinner with all the family members for a celebration here in our country, the time was passed so fast and we all had a great times, got to the end finally we have to pay the bill of course, we ask the waiter to print the bill for us, few minutes waiting and the waiter came with the bill listing the items that we should to pay, we were so happy and no one think to checked the list printed on it.
sadly today we found that the bill written was not for us, the omount was double times comparing to our bill and the items and reservation name was also not on our name. should we then go back to ask their clarification? need your suggestion please...

I do think you should go back and let them know they made a mistake. It is unfair for you to be paying for someone else's enjoyment. Or at least call them and tell them what happened. Maybe they will credit you a free meal or two for their incompetence. Good luck!

If the bill is not in your parties listed name and the restaurant won't credit you back then contact your credit card company and they will resolve the issue for you. Provided you used a credit or debit card that is.

That's too sad and a bit upsetting. The staff of the restaurant should double check the bill if it's really for that table or for this table. This has never happened to me yet but i guess learning from your experience, i think i should be more cautious now and check my restaurant bill first before paying. You should go back to the restaurant, and hope they will pay you back.

I always make it a point to double check my bill before paying for it because it will be so hard to go back and have the restaurant correct it. I would suggest that you give it a try, but I cannot give an assurance that the manager of that restaurant will allow you to point out their mistake since you did already pay for it.
I hate it when waiters do this mistake. Tables have names or numbers in restaurants so that you don't mix up bills and orders. Again, as I said you can try. But I don't know who the management will blame for the mix up, and possibly lose their job or shoulder the extra amount you paid for. It can either be the waiter who served you, the cashier or everyone who was on duty at the time you dined in at the restaurant . I know that money is quite hard to come by these days. Good luck on your trying to correct this and I hope that everything turns out okay.

That is really sad. Very often we do not see in our gleeful moments that whether the things mentioned in the bill were really taken by us. You should go back to the restaurant to ask for the refund. Your bill might have gone to someone else and even if he or she did notice that the bill is not theirs, they might have paid the bill seeing it is for lesser amount. The restaurant has an extra amount with them and not they must give it back to you.

i think you should go to the restaurant and let them know their mistake....it is my habit i always check every bill be it of restaurant bill or shopping bill or any other bill...before getting out of the place i check the bill then i come out so that if there is any mistake i can correct it immediately....so many times i found my bills wrong specially at the time of discounts and sale so at such places i definetly check my bills...

I think it alright, if you could go back to the restaurant and tell them that you paid the wrong bill. Keep you receipt for a proof that it was not for you. Customer has the right to complain anyway. Hope that you settle it soon. God Bless!

Wow!! This very thing happened to my husband and I some yrs. back and truly it is not a Fun place to be. It makes you Stop and think twice before ever wanting to go back to eat there as well. For us, we did go back and confront the main office on the matter, and we did see an adjustment, and did try going back. But for us we get horrible service there from now on, so we choose to put it on a place to avoid and just hope for the Best for everyone else as well.

Hi Dccell,
I would definitely go back and show them the bill you were given. Since you had reservations then it should be very easy for them to verify what table you were seated at and the table the bill really was meant for. I would imagine they would without question refund you the difference for the two bills and possibly even offer you a free meal for your troubles. I'm pretty sure that if they are a reputable restraunt that you will not have one bit of problem in being reimbursed the money you over-paid.

Hello this discussion is a week old already, so you must have done the needful already, normally such errors happen, but before making payment we need to check the bill for details of what we ate or drank
I always do that..
Thanks for sharing.
Welcome always, cheers.

That happen often.. but there is something even worst when they do it intentionally. In big groups sometimes you ask for things but you don't keep track of that and when the bill comes we have found that they charge us things we haven't ask for.. they tell us its a mistake but we are sure they aren't.. they just give a try if they succeed they have a nice extra. We are a group of 15 sometimes so its quite hard to control.. there are a lot of tricks that they do with customers really sad

you should. and fast. you know how some establishments go about refunds. that happened to me too. my friend and i celebrated our birthday together last year. we booked a restaurant for 17 people and we were just engrossed and happy to be together. when we asked for the bill the amount was somehow right for a party of 17. but something we never ordered caught our attention so we went through the list. turned out the order was for the next table. now whenever we go out we always check the bill and not just skim through it.

very nice tip, this very important to all of us, we should double check our bills before paying. Sometimes if we are not checking what we are paying, there are some instances that the cashier or the one who encoded the receipt made a mistake sometimes he/she did't list all things that you have purchased for example, but what if he /she doubled something on the list, so the best thing is still check your bill statement before paying it. thank you

I would go back & talk to them not that it will probably do any good unless u have the bill still. We learn our lessons the hard way. Good luck in getting this bill straightened out.

Hi dccell,
Yes, I think you should address the wrong bill with the management of the restaurant. They must know that you are not going to come back there with an argument about the right charges.
It is a pity that you got such a waiter who got your bill mixed-up with another client's bill. I know they are sometimes very business, but part of doing their jobs well is to serve the customers to the best of their abilities, which includes getting the charges correct.
I think you should get reimbursed for the difference, and get invited back for a free meal. That is the least management can do to show how apologetic they are about the mixed-up bill.
Good Luck

I think it was a big mistakes done by waiter to given you wrong bills.. and now it's your fault that you didn't need to check it on time.. and you paid for it.. I think now you should go to restaurant for clarifying your bills and you should show them to your wrong bills copy.. I think if they had copy of your own bills then you may get your additional charges..

Hi dccell...There's no harm in having your bill corrected. It is good that you had a prior reservation with that restaurant. That way it would be easy for you to show that the bill they gave you does not actually belong to you as the name is different from yours. Don't forget to bring a valid I.D. so you can easily prove your identity. If the restaurant has a customer relation desk you can air your complaints there and have your bill contested. Your post served as a reminder to all of us. Most of the time we don't double check our bills. From now on I will always bear this in mind. Thanks for your friendly and helpful reminder.
