I am just but human...

I have been working for this organization for almost 11 years now. I am so happy with my work, no doubt about that. I enjoy every minute of my teaching career. However, in those almost 11 years, I have encountered some of the worst co-workers one can think of. Some of them, I thought were my friends. I ended up realizing that some of the problems I have encountered at work were caused by them. Some of them created bad stories about me that can really destroy my name. There were instances when I confronted these people and talked to them about it and of course, as expected, they denied it. Nobody claimed responsibility for all those things. I can really be as civil as possible. But sometimes, I have this urge of lashing out at them so they would just stop picking on me. However, I am not that type of person who would do such unprofessional act. Oh well, if ever I end up doing it anyway, it's because I am just but human and my patience has limitations too...

Well, we all have our limits and when push comes to shove, we just have our own different ways on dealing with the situation. With the one you mentioned before, fortunately, I have not experienced. Then again, most of the reasons that we might hear or read on why some people have to spread rumors that would negatively affect another person's reputation is envy. They can't compete when it comes to actual performance so, they decide to mention such awful things towards those who they can't fairly deal with.

Yeah, it is indeed a bit unfair but, those who do know how to distinguish what is real and what are just speculations and rumors would probably correct those that would be spreading such nonsense against those who indeed have a good reputation. Then again, why is it that when people hear rumors, its like instinct to spread it than to try and confirm its authenticity before ever sharing such speculations and ideas that is often false or derogatory. Seems like its more interesting to hear awful things than spreading those with merit.

Now that's something a lot of people are not good at. Verifying the authenticity of certain information that they learn from other people. There are people who find joy in spreading rumors and they find it more exciting to see the aggrieved party hurting...

Hi ratyz5! Wow! This must be a coincidence. A big time coincidence... I was going over my friends email and I read almost the same words that I read from here. I do agree with you, I do think it is envy. So sad they can't play their cards without resorting to dirty tactics. Thanks!

No! Don't! I know it's just being human if you lash out to them, but you can't stoop to their level. As you said, you've been there for 11 years. To have that tenure, you must have been doing something right, which is not to concern with bad habits and bad attitudes of co-workers. I'm sure that as long as you love what you're doing, every (bad) thing will pass, even bad co-workers.

People will talk, talk about everything that they like. They would not praise a person without a purpose. Do something that your GOD like then the GOD will always remember about you! (I play religious here)

Every working place has grapevine gossips going around and it is what we call 'office politics'. Just pretend not to hear what they are saying and stand neutral. Silence is the best weapon to shut them out.

Hi dolce! It's nice to see you. I am sorry that you are having those types of problems at your job, but I want to tell you that that type of thing goes on in "all types of fields"! I worked in the Medical Field and the Legal Field and I could tell you stories about backstabbing co-workers that would make your head spin! I worked with some of the most horrible, nasty foul-mouthed people you could imagine and some of them were my bosses! They cursed, threw things, slammed doors, embarrassed the employees, screamed at the in front of everyone and talked behind everyones backs! Believe me you are not alone and have no idea how terrible it can really be!

Hi Opal26! What really pisses me off is that the people whom I have considered my friend and that I have helped much are the ones who are backstabbing me for years now. I just can't understand why they have to do that. Sometimes, I hate myself for not learning my lesson well.

Since you are happy with your work, that's great. Focus on the positive and not on the negative. Destructive people are everywhere and sometimes they just have to be endured. And hope that they leave and go to work somewhere else.

Hi formidexo! Yes, it is indeed better to focus on the positive. Endurance is not really much of a problem for me. However, there are instances when my ego can't stand my silence...

It's one of the reasons why i never believed that much in friendship. knowing they can stab you in the backs. when i heard from my friend about some other friends back stabbing me, i decided not to contact with them anymore. they aren't worth your time, they're probably just jealous. it's hard to find real people now.

Hi LetranKnight25! Yeah, it's sad to know that people whom you consider your friends can really hurt you big time. I do agree with you, they are not worth the time and effort.

Just do your job and you better don't mind them they just jealous and want to be like you that's why they invent stories to fall you down and be vigilant to people around you. Show to them that you are not affected you done you part by talking to them but they denied it.
