Now that I have your attention, I wanted to share that how many times do we get lucky like this, or are we really?? Where so many people on earth are in need and foolishly make quick desperate and naive decisions.
So I get these two whooping, what looks like legitimate checks, from two different companies. With the following instructions; I deposit to my account and immediately keep as an added bonus $300. Both different companies with the exact instructions. Then I Western Union the remaining...
First of all a disclaimer: I wiped out the bank names as they are well known Nationwide Banks, of which happens to be where I bank, how clear,
This is a warning to so many out in the world that this stuff is still happening and it is no joke, as once you deposit and western union this money guess who is responsible for paying the money back to the bank - YOU.
It amazes me that so many still are falling for this, as if it were free money, indeed it is but not for you but for the scammers!
Please beware and be careful!!

Yet another scam!
I would be suspicious as there are really no "free lunches" in this world. Thanks for making us aware of this, I have not seen anything similar so far, but our local banks do sent us such checks in the mail but actually they are a money lending service, termed as "easy credit", you can borrow the sum from them at an interest. It is the latest sales gimmicks of banks here.

I spoke to my primary bank when I took them the fraudulent check for them to see that someone was utilizing their bank name and logo. The banker told me that all banks do not look at validity of any checks while deposited, that they must honor all checks, unfortunately it is not until one week later that they come back bad.
They said it goes against the window of turn-wound that they must honor all checks while being deposited.
I suppose if we deposited a real check and were told we had to wait a week before we could get our funds it would be disastrous to our budgeting.
Either way we look at it, it is a complete loss for those who are scammed and feel for these people horribly, however we do as humans must always be ware that nothing is ever free.

Good idea but checks like this always seem to rub me the wrong way and I instantly know you do not get anything for anything.

I feel sorry for those who fell for this trick, they put themselves in a worse situation than they were in originally. I think the banks should be more careful too and exercise some sort of monitoring.
Our banks here are quite vigilent on monitoring scams. If someone comes in and ask to withdraw a large sum of money, they would be on the alert and many scams have actually been uncovered in this way.

When I first read your question title, the first thing i thought was, if it was true and genuine, why would you be telling us? Lots of people will fall for it or perhaps hope that it's that easy to get rich easy, because, after all, we are always looking for the easiest ways to do things, and why not? Why do it the hard way when there is an easier way, I don't think that many people are stupid, only that they have hopes and are optimistic that things will work out... :)

Bellpop, I believe you mis-understood my discussion, see I posted this here because it is a well known fact that many people are falling for this trick. There are so many websites that warn people about such false information and I know first hand of people who are quite intelligent who have fallen for the trap.
This in no way is a gain or hope for anyone, it is literally a SCAM, so many people on myLot have received these checks and some in the past have fallen for them. Under no circumstances am I calling any one stupid or dumb. This is a warning that this is happening all over the world. I do not understand how you mis-understood this posting as it is what we as human's do is learn of scammer out there and fore-warn all those so that they do not fall for it.
Because believe me, I am in desperate need of money and these checks could fool me too as I am working daily to earn, but because I have learned about their nature I perhaps though it would be wise to inform people of the scamming that exists in the world. Under no circumstances did my discussion convey that it something you should try, oh gosh NO! It is a warning message to members to be careful that's all. Now don't you think that perhaps this information could be vital in knowing in advance that people all over the world are being scammed?? Or do you think I should remain silent and let my neighbor be fooled??

My point exactly, okay so I am trowing the issue out here so that so many are aware, those that care will always be cautious and not allow them selves or others for that matter to ever be scammed.
Awareness makes the intelligence a bit more fonder to the believer, yet at the same time gets the scammer aware that people are bit more intelligent then they think.
My only fear is that some people not out of un-intelligence but out of need do fall for these forms of scams and in the end, end up with yet a bit more than they can handle. I suppose I can not save the world, but at least I make my intent known.

The biggest problem is a lot of people continue to fall for this, and most of these Scams are posted even on sites like Craigslist, and people never realize that these are a Scam until they cash them and find out they owe their bank thousands of dollars. Who really would think someone would send you a check for $3000 and you are only allowed to keep like $700? I just wish there was a place we could send all of these Fraudulent checks as most of the time I am sure the businesses they use are never aware of what is going on as well. (I still have 5-6 bad checks trying to find someone to report them too.)

Hi Tina!
Seems that these scams are still increasing day by day and people are still falling for the scams. How sad and shocking it must be to those who actually felt that this was a good thing for them.
Sadly from what I understand is that when the FBI finally catches up with these types of scammers location, they have up and moved so not able to catch them and sadly by then they get away with a great deal of money. How terrible for those who are left now trying to pay it back as the banks certainly does not give a pardon or forgiveness.
I still see even here where many are posting about surprise checks for which they scammed with. All we can do is keep the advising to all that there is no such thing as free money as anything such as this comes at an expense and sadly to whom cashes them.

I didn't get it clearly just after reading your discussion. So I searched "fake check" in a Chinese search engine. Wow, I found so many. This is really an old trick, and it seems a lot of Chinese were cheated by foreigners(Because in China, we rarely use personal check.) But I think it shouldn't be the check receiver who is responsible for the fake check, it should be the check writer responsible for it. Anyway we are not financial experts, we can't distinguish the reality of every check.

Yes it is the check writers fault and responsibility, however the person who gets the money is the one who cashes it. After cashing the money and sending it to the check writer the bank does not go after the check writer but the person who the bank gave the money too.
The law looks at it as the person who initially received the money and if this person can find the check writer, which of course no one can, then the person can sue them. See even the FBI says beware of such scams as by the time they are able to find the location where these checks were issued from the people have already picked up and left so they can't keep up.
It is too sad but it is happening daily and people are falling for this every day. I am glad you researched this as take it from someone like me oh so needs money just for my basic needs, the checks are so tempting, but then the result will be disastrous. So I am glad you found this useful and please let everyone you know this is happening daily everywhere.

Thank you my friend very kindly. The idea for the discussion is to make more aware this this type of scam is happening daily.
The poor get taken advantage of when all along they thought they were getting something to help with. I know people who should have known better but made the decision of falling for this and got themselves in debt knew deep. It is truly sad.

I have heard of this scam. Though I've never known anyone to actually receive the actual scam check and letters before. You are right you are responsible for EVERY DIME when you cash a bad check. They work on the premise that people are desperate and that they think they will make a profit when the only place that does is the recipient of your wire. This is why many banks put holds on checks from unfamiliar companies or for stubstantial amounts now days to help decrease the time it take for the check to come back bad & for them to collect it from you.
It always makes me laugh about the folks who get taken into the "You've inherited $$$$$ from some important person from ________. Send $$$$$ to claim your inheritance" Odds are there is no long lost relative or acquaintance... but a scammer waiting to get your money. Local TV stations run this warning a time or two a year.

Thanks for the information. I don't accept checks as payment anymore. I only take cash, or if they are online they pay me via paypal using their credit card or their paypal account. I've not had any issues with this form of payment as of yet, but I had no idea about Western Union. It is something to be aware of. Though I've heard stories that some banks cannot even tell the difference between a real and fake check. It's just sad that we live in such a society where people feel the need to steal from one another.

It is amazing that this is not the first time I get checks like this. But it is however the first time I get two in one day. Both different companies and I could actually deposit them in my account and after one day the funds will be available to withdraw.
This is really a big problem in the US. I took one of them to my bank which is the same supposed issuing bank and was told the thousands like these are being cashed each day as many Americans are still falling for this trap.
I can only imagine a poor and or desperate person, to later get scammed and the bank will not accept sorry for an answer.

Nice checks. I would like to imagine myself holding those two checks with those amounts? I think I will be able to live for a year without doing anything. Pretty cool right? But I don't think that I have to have those since it would only bring disaster to my life.

This is my point friend. Imagine a person in dire straits and receives these beautiful checks and thinks for some reason they were lucky this day.
The headaches, ruins and disaster as the bank will not care outside of getting their money back.
Be well.
