Are we not bound by quality posting in mylot?

I do hope that I do not offend anyone here but there are times when I get frustrated with the kind of writing that I peruse in mylot. There are several posts that don't use capital letters in the titles, and the titles come in phrases full of punctuation marks. I have always thought that the exclamation mark is emphatic enough. To use several periods and question marks, exclamation marks, and then leave the sentence hanging, is too much of an expression. Could it be an exaggeration? I don't think so. It is plain poor writing. And the post, when one finally gets over the title, is simply as complex. It feels like deciphering a puzzle to see the point.
There are times, too, that a responder gives a one liner that doesn't give any relevance to the discussion. Clearly, the responder is just after garnering points. Sometimes, the whole quality of discussion gets affected by the first response. I suppose many mylotters tend to read the responses first before making their own.
Someone once said that Of all the arts in which the wise excel, nature's chief masterpiece is writing well.
I do hope that when we write, we do pause and think about what we are writing. Once printed, we cannot take it back. And what we write reflect on who we are.

I have been a Computer Trainer all my career during which I have met many students and realized that different people have different perceptions and they all lokk at the same thing differently.
The same also applies here at mylot. With over 2,000,000 users, there are high chances that there are differences in Quality, Content and even Style of Writing.
Here is what I do when I reply to a discussion - I rarely read what has been mentioned or written in the earlier responses to a discussion. I know I want to get my thought and view or opinion conveyed. Then if I feel interested, I read a couple of replies and hopefully make a comment - better on those done by my known community here.
As for Quality in terms of spell-checks and grammar I try doing them to the best of my knowledge.
I do agree for me that what I write reflects me though I am not sure about others.

The human race is truly diverse. However, I believe that in this time and age, the world had agreed to use English as the international language for communication. I am a stickler for correct usage because it is important for better understanding.
Thanks for the information. Teach your students well.

I think that some people really don't care what they post whether if it's right or wrong as long as they are paid. People must learn the proper way to post or comment not just posting nonsense knowing that they gonna be paid after all.
keep on posting great discussions here!

I am thankful for your response. I was beginning to think my post is coming in too strong for comfort.

Well I really agree with your post and I hope that some people will think about sharing here not just posting something that you didn't think about first.

I commit a lot of typographical errors, too. I wouldn't want to be critical of anyone's work either. I just don't want the English language destroyed.

Hi eileen, one must remember that mylot has members who come from all corners of the world and English and grammatical usage is little known to them , but they still try to do their best.I have seen many members who , over a period of time have learnt the language and are able to post decent comments and discussions topics.
But I am against irrelevant posts and one liners as it serves no purpose either to the discussion nor to the member concerned .Just making a post guarantee any earning, it has been clearly stated in the mylot rules....what you say is right, that one should pause and think about what one is writing - all the best and happy mylotting

My friends include many Chinese, Indians, Indonesians, Malaysians, and of course, my fellow Filipinos who I bully if something they write is shabby. Run-on sentence - almost! But many of them do write perfectly.
I understand those who are learning the language still, but those who deliberately ignore the rules, hmmmpf!, I would just like to put them back to grammar school.

It's frustrating when we see these people respond. I mean, I guess it's to their own free will that they write like they please - but a simple, irrelevant response to a discussion I start is just.. well.. annoying! You can tell that all they really want and think is that they're going to make money by just responding with one-liners like that..When truly, in the end, THEY are the ones missing out.
I love MyLot. It is my source of venting, ranting, and discussing things that have been on my mind. You certainly can't hold a decent discussion with only one or two words. I am not eloquent or articulate in any way and at least I can write a little more than one or two words. . But seriously, the people that are doing this.. Are just missing out. Missing out on the money, because we all know that the Guidelines say that we are paid on quality and not quantity, and just missing out on what a fun and interesting environment MyLot is to be a part of. Hope this all made sense. LOL.

Hello eileen,
that's exactly why it takes me a while to write a response or a comment since i need to be sure that i won't be misunderstood. well, i had experience of being a one liner when i first started here, but the purpose then was to reach 500 post so that i could do the "copy paste" thing. but as time goes by, i end up expressing myself and my thoughts in this site. some can be annoying but most of the time now a days, i just try to be neutral and not to take much of a side.
I was a responder too most of the time. but recently, I've seen topics that are similar or repeated with others not knowing or not researching it first. besides, i never wished to be a good writer but i learned to type things here. more over, i learned to type with out even looking at the keyboad

What a journey you had there! But it sure is exciting to have you around, Knight! You make me think, ha ha! I know you are absolutely serious with all your ideas but then I pause and ask myself [i]Where did he get that notion? I do hope you don't lose yourself in trying to stay neutral. We can't please everyone, you know! So, just keep .

Hi eileenleyva,
Yes, I have seen plenty posts that are poorly written. However, I give the writer the benefits of doubt. They may not be fluent in the English language and doesn't know all the grammatical rules.
Mylot, is wonderful in that way, for not punishing it participants for these errors. It is not a site for best writers only. It is a site where anyone can post a discussion about something they want to share. Some of the other writing sites will deny some of the posts here, for those reasons. When I come across a discussion that is poorly written, I have two choices that I can make. I can read it and commend on it, or I can eliminate it from my choices and move on to a more legible writing.
If someone is writing poorly because they are lazy, shame on them. But, if someone is writing to the best of their ability, then I have not problem with their efforts. After all, this site isn't about who can write the best,(good writing helps) it is about making money. Everyone who wishes to make money here should have the opportunity to do that.
Just ignore the bads one and read the good stuff.

Hi Angel, I have no problem with whatever theme or subject a mylotter wishes to discuss. We can talk about sand, for all I care, but that sand could be interesting if written well. My problem looks something like this: Title: when my boyfriend...other girl!!!!! i feel sad!!!please read...,
or a first response: Is this what was in the news?
I believe mylotters are for people who can write, otherwise, they would have left the site. Many of those who stayed had learned to write well and had communicated their messages par excellence. I am sure corresponding will be more pleasurable if the writing is given much thought.

I admit I'm one of those you are referring to. I use too many punctuation marks in my titles and sometimes write it in small letters. I use two periods on the end of my titles sometimes and even when i write i do still do it. Maybe because I'm used to it already although i know it's really not good. And i do also know that my letter I in some of my I words are in small letter. I honestly think of what I'm writing before i write it down. Although sometimes I'm just not so reckless and tend to ignore all the wrong things and words I'm saying. I don't even review what i write before posting it, which is really not good. And I would admit that I am not a perfect writer, so a few wrongs may be just fine. I'm here in myLot because I want to learn and I'd like to thank you for posting this. I will somehow be cautious in the way I post my comments and discussions from now on.

Hi Eileen, There are certainly some funny posts here. However, that being said, your education shows when you write. We must remember that there are those with less formal education and also those who are using English as a second language as you no doubt are.
Many of those posts will not come up to your standards. But then some are just sloppy with their writing as you say.
Funny that I don't see Mylot as a money earner and never write or respond with money in mind. I haven't even checked to see what my earnings balance is.
For me, Mylot is fun when I have some spare time or need to relax.

With the diversity of dialects in the Philippines, it is good to see that the government teaches English from 1st. year school. It is a pleasure to visit there and be able to communicate.

in composing an article, yes. in emails to friends and colleagues and in posting discussions, no. sharing one's thoughts in discussion area using all small letters saves time but doesn't break any writing rules as we are not in a formal set-up. it's just like writing your username all in small letters. if we're strict in following such a rule, the first letter in every name should be written in a capital letter.
i have been in different fora/forums and majority shares their thoughts all in small letters. what matter most in every forum is that the readers understand what the writer is trying to impart and not the writing rule of which letter should be written in capital letters or in small letters.

My name would have been in caps had my daughter only heeded to my plea when she was opening the account for me. She was saying something like avatars in the virtual world of the internet can come in small letters. Of course I argued that I want my name written right. But she told me that I must not divulge all the facts about myself. Since I was at her mercy, she got the upper hand. I would have changed my avatar if only I know how. But I am pathetic when it comes to computers.
