In our home, we have two appliances that consumes most of the electricity. One would be the electric iron and the other one is our refrigerator. To save electricity from the electric iron, we are using an iron heated by charcoal. It's a bit heavier that electric iron and you might need to adapt its different ironing techniques. We use this if we are about to iron for at least one hour or about 20 clothes. If we're already done and there's still some charcoal left, we use it heat some water for our thermos. For the refrigerator, my mother use to sell ice but now she only uses those ice to cool our refrigerator. Our refrigerator was unplugged for the whole day and it was still cool because of the ice that were stocked at the freezer. We will again replug the refrigerator at night which make it run for only about 8-10 hours a day. My mother says she could only sell all those ice for a total of Php40/week but she could save up to Php250/month from electric consumption by doing this. I have also bought a 24" LCD TV to replace our defective 21" CRT TV. It a bit of investment but it consumes less electricity from 95W to 57W.

To save more on eletricity, you should remember not to waste energy. Some ideas for you: 1. Use the air conditioner (or heater) with timmer So you can set to stop the air conditioner (or heater) when morning. This can save so much energy. 2. Switch off the light when you are out. 3. Watch less TV, Do more sports.

Thank you jeffreychan0910. We should buy a timer this week for our airconditioner in the room. Our little girl wants the aircon on for the longest time without limits before bedtime. So i better follow you on this thing. I guess it will help us save more if we have a timer.

they suck - really.
Hello Money4moms, It's sad though that we still have trouble saving a lot of electricity. for one reason, our meter is more than a decade old and some believed it's not working efficiently.,second, i use mylot almost ALL the time, sometimes i last more than five hours mylotting. but since a few months ago i started using mylot half the time. our bill hasn't reached below two thousand pesos in so many months now.

I live in a country where electricity is a big problem. Consumption of electricity is more then its production. Electricity rates are too high. Most of the people spend one third of their income in just paying the electricity bill. A lot need to be done to save electricity. At government level and at individual level. A simple theory is that government should take necessary steps to increase its production and we the consumers should save it as much as possible. Government should build dams to store water required to produce electricity, locate different and cheap methods to produce it. At consumer level, we must use what is required. wastage can increase our bills as well as the rate of per unit of electricity. More demand definitely effects cost. so please save energy.

You need to turn off and unplug any appliance that you are not using. turn off the lights when you leave a room and use energy efficient light bulbs in the house. Lower the temperature on your washing machine to a 30 degree wash and never ever leave anything on stand by, It uses the same amount of electricity as if you were running that particular appliance.

Good and timely discussion I have removed all filament type light bulbs that used to consume 100 watts, the so called 'bar lights' and 'tube lights', now using CFL lamps that consume 5-18 watts only, i replace my old pc monitor with the latest Samsung LCD monitor, it consumes very less power I run my ac in power saving mode always.. Thanks for sharing. Welcome always, cheers. Professor. .

We also planned before to cut down our electricity bill and these are several things we do to make the bill lower. Remember to switch off the lights whenever it is not in use. We don't open them as well unless it is already dark and we only use white light, for the yellow one is takes more electricity power. We also unplug all electrical equipment when we leave the house. And when someone is watching television outside the room we don't open anymore the television in the room and stay in one place. hope it helps.

Switch off your lights when not in use or if you need, use energy-saving light bulbs. Nowadays, there are a lot of energy-saving appliances. There are fans, lights and many more. If you really need to keep your room cool, you should buy an energy-saving fan like mine, which has 3 rotators but I can choose to turn on the first two or last two at any one time, which is a really good alternative, except that it's not powerful and when I turn on turbo mode, it's really noisy. Other than that, it's a good energy-saving device.

We can save so much on our electric bills by the little things that we do. Keeping the winter cold out is a big way to save. Keeping our homes cool in the summer also helps with our electricity bills.

Well, for this summer, we all have to spend more on our electricity bill, because we might turn on the A/C, or the fan all the time. I don't know if there is anyway to reduce these costs by keeping the same comfort of your home. Maybe you have to do some sacrifice such as not turning the A/C at all. And taking more ice cold bath, such adding ice to the bathing water to keep you cold.

we usually don't spend longer hours on computer a minimum of 3 hrs..open windows when it's breezy instead of aircon. always unplug not in used appliances. turn on lights only when needed during the day. fold clothes quickly right after dryer is off to avoid wrinkles so no need to iron. we recycle water from sink to our garden. Is there such thing as consume now, pay later..?? haven't heard of it before..?

It always a good idea to minimize household electricity costs. Not only does this mean that you minimize expenses, but it also help the environment. Lighting - replace incandescent lamps with compact fluorescent lamp, turn off the lights whenever you leave a room, for stairways or corridors which are not often used, have a lamp which is switched on with a timer( this switch off the light automatically often a couple of minutes) Cooling - keep the house cool by pulling thick curtain or shades over the windows during the day, especially when no using those particular rooms. If possible, use light wood curtains or shades. Set air conditioning units to 11 degrees C. Paint the roof and the whole exterior of the house white or at least use light colors. Refrigerator - position the refrigerator in a cool place, not near the stove/oven or where the sun will shine directly in it, make sure that at there is at least 10cm space between the refrigerator and the wall. It uses less electricity of the warmth released door as short as possible. Defrost every 2 mos or when a layer of ice build up. The ice reduce the cooling efficiency of the refrigerator. Cooking - An electric stove remains hot even after being turned off. Turn the stove off before the food is fully cooked and used the remaining heat. Wash full load of clothes, Iron clothes in big batches, Pull the plugs out of the sockets using the appliance or use socket strips when you have many appliances, so that you can turn item off all at once.

Since it is now BER months and the weather is going colder, do not use aircon or electric fan. Also if someone is using computer, try not to use the tv.

If you can only use one light for studying, use one. Haha, however, I cannot do that on my own because I really need a bright area where I can study. As much as possible, do not turn on the aircon, it's very consuming. When ironing, do it once but big time.:) That's what I heard from my mom, but honestly, we never got to do that.

It is always the simplest things that people tend to not do, that saves the money on electricity. For instance, if I am not in the room, I turn off all lights or the radio or anything that is one that is not vital when I am not in the room. In fact, I don't really turn on the lights, until it is dark enough to be a problem. Of course, the darkness gets sooner and sooner every night, but still, it is the thought that counts. Also, if you have a computer, you should really shut it down at night. Not only will the computer cool down, but there are about eight hours of power that the computer is inputting. Some people leave the computer on all night, even when they are sleeping. I for one cannot sleep with the computer on the room to begin with. Still I guess if you are doing these things, than there cannot be much to be done that can be helped. Still simple measures are always the best.

We regularly follow few energy saving tips to check unwanted wastage of energy. We run electric devices only when it is necessary. We use low energy consuming appliances, e.g. use CFL instead of ordinary bulbs. While buying a new electric device, we check its power rating as well as its recommendation. We try to avoid using high energy consuming devices as far as possible. Before going to bed or going out anywhere, we check out whether all unnecessary electric devices are switched off or not.
