Yesterday i met my good friend , Ann for lunch at a new mexican restaurant. It was the first time either of us had been. When we went to pay our bills she told the guy that was checking us out that say should be playing Freedy Fnder's songs instead of the music they were playing. I got so tickled because u could tell he didn't have any idea who she was talking about. He use to be really popular back in the day & he was a mexican. i would have thought he would have at least heard of him. I still like to hear his songs but i like the oldies & goodies station. How many of u remember Freddy fender

I don't remember him. But, as I read each post, the songs are soooo familiar because I grew up with them. And, yes, I like them oldies, too! Hmm...I'll be searching for his albums. I think my parents have the old records, but the record player plays no more!

I bet there are more people w/records they have nothing to play them on than people that do. I think it's sad.

Maybe they should start making those players again! I had fun watching them as they played. When a record is finished, I needed to flip the thingy back to the edge of the record to play. Unlike the players today, which can be programmed to automatically play back a tune. Ah, the good, old days.

I still listen to three of his songs, Before the Next Tear Drop Falls, Wasted Days and Wasted Nights, and Secret Love. They reflect the life that I went through. I guess the younger generation have never heard any of his songs. If they do then they would have heard of his name.

I have heard the name but I did not have a clue who this guy was until I read your discussion! So there you have it, I have learned something I did not know before! I looked him up and found some of his songs and aside from ‘Breaking up is hard to do’ and “Wasted days and wasted nights’ I have not heard of any of them!

Is he the guy who sang those beautiful lyrics that went something like, "If he brings you happiness then I wish you all the best because your happiness is what matters most of all, but if he ever breaks your heart"....and so on? Something about "the last teardrop"? If so, I loved that song and that singer.

I certainly remember Freddy! When he started back touring he was at the Grand Casino in Biloxi, Ms. and then went to Gulfport, Ms. and was singing about 2 or 3 times a year around that area. My husband knew I liked him and everyone of the concerts he did we went. I love his songs too.

Yes, the name Freddy Fender does ring a bell. If am not mistaken he is that popular blind singer with good husky voice. He is one of my favorite oldies singers. With all the new hits coming up I have lost track of this singer. Is he still around?

Good morning...dear JO! First of all I remember and think of you daily...and am so glad that T.J. is home for a few days and I can borrow his laptop! "Freddy Fender"--YUM! YUM! I have two of his albums (L.P.'s) that I must have my son download to CD, but when I think of FF..."Wasted days & Wasted Nights" brings back so many younger, fun-loving times! Gosh, what great memories...and "thank you" for sharing them! I often wish that there was a Country Station here devoted to "mouldy oldies!" Take care..HUGZ & LUV!

yes. i absolutely love Freddie fender. i had several cd's of his. then my grand daughter in florida borrowed them cause she likes country music and never gave them back and now i never hear from her cause she lives with her dad which will hardly let her communicate with me. but, yes, freddie's the tops.

Actually, he was a Texan. Still, Freddy Fender and Beto y Los Fairlanes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beto_y_Los_Fairlanes are good choices in my book! Robert "Beto" Skiles also plays more new age-ie and jazz type music when he's not performing with the Fairlanes... I've heard him on the local radio station KUT http://kut.org/
