I'm a big anime fan I also read mangas but only a handful in my opinion are geared towards children. I dont know if parents realized that most animes and manga even those with children as lead characters are not really for kids. I don't think they're even good for kids at all or am I just being too conservative?

Actually, there are many kinds of anime, some are made for kids while some are made for adults. Though I'll have to disagree with you about them not being good for kids, in fact some anime teach a lot of values. Even the brutal ones have a good moral into it. Its just that we have to control the kids on how they see these kind of things. Though in the end we really can't blame anime and games for kids going bad. Its all about the environment and values the kids learn.

I'm not too familiar with anime for kids oh wait i think Mojacko is for kids. Actually my concern was parents are too lenient with their kids with all anime, they probably thought that because its cartoon its automatically kid friendly.

Usually those in Toonami. They're good. Although I don't like them cause they're mostly the brainwash to buy toys anime. but the point is, don't blame the anime. No matter how violent an anime or game is, if the kid is well raised he won't do bad stuff. Like my friend's nephew, he plays GTA all day but he's nice.

I agree with SinRealm people judge the anime, or any other entertainment cause of what it teaches the children. Is just entertainment if u want children to learn then teach them. It doesn't matter of what it is there seeing, it matters how they see it. That's the part in which grown ups go in if you teach them to ignore or not see something they wont learn. Stop being lazy and teach the children what they need, dont let TV or Games teach them so you can blame someone else. Anyways im a fan of anime and there are a lot of anime for kids there are some pages on the internet that say the age requirement for each anime. It depends on where u look.

I disagree, i think animes (not all) teaches children a lot that could help them in life. Morals and values are part of what they learn but they also learn how they should live life. Like in naruto, although its mostly violent, the theme of it is friendship. It teaches kids to be more kinder to different people and be more friendlier. I remember as a kid, i watched Slam Dunk, and it thought me to never give up even when times are hard and i still value that lesson til today.

I love slam dunk but i think I've watch it back in high school. Most animes theme is about friendship and hard work that's what i like about them. Talent and determination works wonder. Some anime could work for children but most are for teens and adults.

Anime actually started out for kids. It's just that the ones most popular that get translated outside Japan are geared more towards the teenage and adult market, which is probably the main reason why some people think anime is not really geared for kids. I've seen quite a few anime in recent years that are geared more towards kids than they are towards adults and teens. One of them is this really cute, short anime called "Chi's Sweet Home." It's only three minutes long, but it's very obviously geared towards teaching kids about how to take care of their pets. Then there's shows like Gundam and Macross which are geared towards the older kids (8 years old and up). There are also quite a bit of anime which are not meant for kids, but this would depend on the parents' discretion. Personally, if I have kids, I would watch anime with them to see whether such shows are suitable for them or not.

You are right most anime that reach my country are mostly for teenagers. I guess spongebob control the younger market here.

I'm sure that here in the U.S most anime not suitable for children is viewable at the hours they are awake. They usually show anime that is more violent at night for example, bleach,Trinity, blood+, etc. Although I don't know why they show an anime called D.B.Z early in the morning. Anyways, I believe that anime was intentionally made for viewers of older ages.

Here in the Philippines bleach is around 10 am before and that's in free TV. Actually all anime here are shown during daytime.

There are different kinds of anime and I agree there are some that needs parental supervision or not good for kids at all. But these kinds aren't really that accessible to kids anyway and they probably would have to search for a lot of sites to find them. The anime that we mostly see are not that bad for kids, some are a bit brutal (with fights and wars and stuff) but even these sort teach kids values its just a matter of guidance. And if kids asks it'd be better to honestly and plainly tell them, asking them about the anime would also help us know what they are thinking.

anime in general is for all ages however we need to control kids it's a matter of a parents awareness and how they raise their children. as some of the above commenters mentioned already. it's the parents responsibility to teach their kids correct values and not blame what kids learn on things they watch.

Teaching by example is still the best way, but that's just me. Well kids are kinda mature this days, TV i guess kinda contribute with the "maturity".

Actually lots of anime are for kids, it's just that what's considered appropriate for children is very different in Japan than it is in the US. In Japan the level of violence and "adult content" in your average Jump anime is considered appropriate for older children and pre-teens. That doesn't mean that anime like that can't be enjoyed by adults though.
