Are you a fast typer or do you use the hunt and peck method? After years of spending time on a typewriter and then a computer, I have learned to be able to never watch my fingers and just type away. Takes time to learn the keyboard but once you do, it's off and flying.

My first year typing class we had to be able to type 30 wpm to pass the class. My first typing test, I typed 38 wpm. I breezed through ALL my typing assignments & my teacher said I was born to type. Over the years, I tested as fast as 120 wpm & could consistently maintain 100 wpm with minimal errors. It has been years since I've been tested, but I believe that I'm still consistent if not better than my last typing test!!! Now days they don't check for words per minute instead opting for keystrokes. I haven't had a job where my keystrokes were important, so i have NO idea how I rate there. I feel that on data entry, I would be up there in the top 5% if not better!!!

Hey super typer..lol Now that's fast. Have never had a job doing any kind of data entry so I wouldn't know my speed of keystrokes either. I can watch tv and type but do have to check back and make sure I have no typos. It's second nature to me after all the years. Thanks for responding.

Typing without looking at the keyboard is what you call touch type. I'm good at that. Self-studied it till I discovered that I was typing fast by just looking at the screen. It pays to touch type. Even when the letters on the keyboard are gone, still you can type and communicate with others in the Net. Touch type saves you a lot of time and the more productive you become. I wonder if I can train my toes to touch type as well. :D

Do me a favor. If you can type with your toes please post a photo on here so we can all see it..lol Some of the letters on my keyboard wore off. I cheated and used fingernail polish the other day to distinguish the M from the N. Sometimes I get stuck on both of them. Thanks for responding.

I agree. You are beyond experienced. My keyboard is falling apart and it's not old. The lettering has faded or is gone on some of the keys. I have a light touch on this keyboard which is easy however using my daughter's keyboard is a chore. Have to hit it so hard because it's stiff. Thanks for responding.

not really, but I type reasonably fast on my computer. I would imagine I am doing about 40 wpm. I'm sure I would not be that fast on a timed typing test though, because I would probably be making some mistakes a long the way.

They usually account for such mistakes though. If you've been typing for some time then I think you can type faster than I can. :)

well i am only used to type in computers and not typewriters. you need to be slower in typewriters because the keys might tangle up if your too fast.
if i have tried a how fast you type site and it says that i have 80-90 wpm.

well it is not that well known but typewriters are still needed in some hospitals because the keys are hardpressed in the paper unlike the printer ones.

I learned typing when I was in school, but it was so long ago I forget what my speed was. At a few jobs, I had to use a computer so I used my typing skills. I have been unemployed for a few years, and when I got this computer it took me awhile to feel comfortable with my skills, but now I can usually type without looking. When I was working I used the number pad on the right of the keyboard a lot (it was mortgages and it was mostly numbers). I was pretty fast and good at it. I also worked for an inventory company and we used a computer with a number pad like the one on the keyboard. This keyboard you have to use the numbers on the top above the letters and I have to look at them. I would rather be able to use the number pad, but I can't I don't know if that is normal or just my computer.

I use a hybrid method, instead of looking at the screen and typing, I type while looking at at the keyboard while placing my fingers in the correct position.
This way I don't need to 'learn' typing without seeing and I type impressively fast but not that fast the way professionals can, but I am good enough.
This way typing fast comes naturally to me and becomes less of an obstructing and more of amazing experience!

I used to be the hunt and peck method until recently I decided to learn how to type properly because I am envious of those people who can type away and look at their monitors and not their keyboards.
So I downloaded the typing master pro just last month so that I can learn how to type faster and without looking at the keyboard. And here I am now, I can already type at 45 words per minute and I can now type without ever looking at the keyboard.
That program helped me a lot, and I'm still pushing myself to be faster and more accurate in typing.

Terrific. Glad you found a program online that helped. I am one of those who doesn't have to look at the keyboard but that comes from years of typing. When I first started, it was slow but eventually moved forward and I learned. Thanks for responding.

I use the computer everyday and know where all the keys are. Unfortunately I still have to look at the keys to seeing what I am typing.

I can't really say that I can type very fast, but fast enough! I am glad I learned to do it and I have recommended it to my children too, as it is something helpful and useful to know!

I'm at 40 to 50 words a minute. I took typing in high school. It's called keyboarding in school now. They don't have a class called typing any more.

I type fast, and i text fast lol. I've been on the computer more than half of my life, and i've taken keyboarding lessons back in elementary school.
we all know practice makes perfect and i've been basically tying for a long time now.
btw i'm only 21 hehe. making myself sound older than what i am.

That's great. Ok you got me on texting. I haven't figured it out yet although my husband is trying to teach me. The little keys are so small on his cell and getting it away from him for more than 5 min. is a long time....lol Thanks for responding.

This is a nice question! I have not checked my typing speed in years! LOL
I type not too fast but I bought this software from www.typingmaster.com so I can improve my typing skills.
Try it and see for yourself.
