I always hear good things about oatmeal especially in print and TV ads telling how good it is for ones health. I tried eating oatmeal for breakfast for 2 weeks but I stopped since I notice that I'm not losing weight which is the major reason why I eat oatmeal for breakfast :(

Oats are one of the best possible foods that you can eat. One of the best nutrients found in oats is fiber that helps lower bad cholesterol. Oatmeal is also rich in selenium which helps in the reduction of inflammation in the body. you can enjoy a serving of oatmeal in many ways. It is one of the very best and nutritious foods you can eat.

Hiya pogi,
Also warm and comforting and they fill you enough and sustain you all through the Morning too. I never want to eat anything after I have eaten Porridge it takes my appetite away for the best part of the Day sometimes.
But I still eat at the same time but I eat a lot less than normal. I donĀ“t include it as a Diet thing though. I eat Porridge because I enjoy it very much.

Personally speaking,I wouldn't regard Oatmeal (We call the dish made with it "Porridge") as a food for a weight loss diet...It's supposed to be good for the cholesterol balance, and to fill you up at the start of the day,as well as being good for digestive fibre. How you prepare it too can affect how appropriate it would be as part of a diet...the basic way of preparing it is by cooking with water, with a pinch of salt added. A Richer way of preparing it would be by using Milk or even cream in the cooking,or serving it with cream, sugar, syrup,or other things..How do you take Yours? On its own,I doubt if it would have a big effect in weight loss..You'd need a balanced diet, and to be drinking more water, getting more exercise, and getting enough rest for things to work..

Yes, oatmeal is a healthy food because it is rich in iron and fiber. But eating oatmeal alone cannot make you lose weight if that is your purpose. Make sure that you have a proper exercise too. Besides, it has to be balanced. A very common mistake by people who want to lose weight is that they have no discipline to what they eat. For example, oatmeal for breakfast can be useless when you eat 2 cups of rice during lunch time or dinner time.

hello, i'm a pharmacist, maybe i could help you answer your question. oatmeal is a healthy food to reduce your cholesterol and to maintain your heart. it is a part of healthier life style. and it is good especially for old people. but for losing weight, i'm afraid it only has a little effect. because oatmeal is a kind of high carbo too, so, it is almost the same like you eat another high carbo food. that's why you dont lose your weight. if you have unbalance life style like eat junk food, rarely exercise, you better stay eating oatmeal for breakfast for your health.that's all that i can say

All outmeal posts are great - especially the balance part. My hubby has been doing oatmeal for breakfast for a straight 7 yrs. - he gets the old fashioned oats (better glycemic rate) adds a sm. scoop of protein a little sweetner and he's good for a few hours. He eats a regular lunch and supper - always with veggies and a lean meat - we don't buy junk food and we have healthy snacks throughout the day.
There has to be a balance of all the correct foods ( not too much red meat, ease up on carbs as the day goes on.) and most essentially, exercise...

Eating oatmeal has lots of benefits to our body. I also include oatmeal on my breakfast and sometimes in snack time. It has fibers that will help us cleanse our intestines. This is also good for the heart and I believe that you'll loose weight if you include oatmeal on your diet.

I have tried eating oatmeal for breakfast. But with a difference. I have tried eating oats in milk by adding resins, cashew nuts and grated cheese on it. Its so tasty and healthy.
