Using LAPTOPS in school, a good thing or bad?

listening to your teacher and taking up some notes as your teacher speaks can really be stressful and very tiring. You can sometimes not able to cope up with what your teacher says. It is a good thing if you can grasp all of the things your teacher says.
Using laptops at school is good because you can just type all the necessary things you should know. You can also use your phone to record the things important based on what she said. Basically it is a good thing. But it can also cause some distraction if your are online because it is really tempting to open up your social networking sites while on class or discussions. You can also get easily distracted if your messenger is online and somebody just gave you an instant message and your attention from your teacher will shift in reading the message and formulating your thoughts to respond to it.
So guys, is it a good thing to use Laptops in school?

Laptops are very useful if they are used right. I think that if you are a fast typist, then you will be able to get down a lot more notes of what the teacher says. Plus, it won't be the mess that handwriting can turn into when you are trying to jot down a lot of information. Well, it won't be the mess like my handwriting is, when I try to write quickly, but your experiences will vary.
I think that if it is only used for school and doesn't have anything but Word or Notepad or whatever you choose to take notes on, than it is fine. However, if you start wandering for whatever reason, going to places where you should not be going, then the point of taking notes becomes lost to say the very least. So laptops only should be use when the use of them will be a benefit to you. Otherwise, the benefits are quite lost if you are not focusing on your studies.

Absolutely, it is up to the students if they are going to let themselves get distracted to what is a real education is all about. it is also a real advantage for the person who types fast and knows how to jot down only important things that the teacher is saying. they can also add up something significant to the discussion if they find things on the internet that is really relevant to the discussion. and what you have just contributed can just also be copied and pasted on your notes. thank you for the wonderful response and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

using laptop in class always good if it is be used in the right way. but i think it is not suitable for me or maybe most of my friends. i have one subject which the lecture is having in a computer lab. it is rare to see students use the facilities in the right way, most of the students is with their facebook games. i would think that bringing laptop is only for those who have high discipline of themselves. i prefer to bring some paper notes to lecture.

You are lucky enough that you are allowed to use laptops in college because we are not. I would love to do that because then i would be on mylot for as long as i can and i guess that would be a real bad thing. I can only access the computer during the lunch break which is for half an hour and then i have to go and eat lunch and its classes soon after that also. I would also watch youtube videos so if you ask me i think the college knows what we would do if we had laptops with us and they seem to have the brains and not allow us to do anything!

That is so true. I didn't had the opportunity to use a laptop before when I was in college until such time that I am already working on my thesis. whatever information that comes up inside my mind then I will put it all in my notes and directly save it on my laptop to work on with my thesis. There are lots of good things and bad things that we can post here if we use laptops in school. But the bottomline is that as long as we are able to learn a lot of things then it is not that bad after all. But the distraction from what we hear from our professors is the main reason why they don't want us to use it while on class.

It would still be better for me to be with the traditional of taking down notes. Atleast, you dont need to keep on saving and yo will not distract your classmates. it will still be faster vto take down notes while writing rather tha typig. What if your computer bugs down?

in parliament house all the parliament members get a lop top every day. the head of a parliament become very happy that all the members are very hardworking because they use laptop regularly. one day he come to the members and saw that every one is playing cards game spider solitaire. i want to explain that if some one use it positively it's ok but if they start play games and surfing internet i think it's could effect on theirs studies.

I am able to see many positives and negatives in using Laptops in school. I personally think that it is better to just use textbooks. The distractions of being able to get off task using the internet are very high. I think that if a school used laptops, most of the students would be on sites like Facebook and MySpace.
