Abortion is not legal in my country, but many women go to clandestine clinics to have it done. This coming Sunday we are going to elect our president and one candidate is loosing voters because she is in favor about women choosing what is best for them (having or not abortion). Most of the Brazilian people are christians. I am against it, I think there many ways to avoid pregnancy nowadays. Why some women don´t control their impulse or don´t take care of herself to prevent an unwanted pregnancy? What do you think about it?

I am against abortion and will never consider it as a right. You don't consider killing an innocent unborn child your right. God will never forgive those who would be advocating this horrible deed of man!

What about the anencephalic fetus that we know will not survive after born, or other kind of anormality diagnosed during the pregnancy... do you think is fair for a woman to go thru all the complication of a pregnancy knowing that her baby will die after born? Even in this case, are you against?

I think the problem here is that the focus is on the woman and not the child...we are not doing a child a favor by killing it...let nature take its course...afterall, that's certainly what happened during the conception!!

I don't think abortion is the right thing to do unless the mothers life is in danger. I feel sorry for a lady that has got pregnant during an attack. Sadly abortion is permitted in my home country up to 24 weeks pregnancy. I was shocked when I was asked if I wanted an abortion at 36 weeks pregnancy. No way would I have done that. My disabled son is now a happy little three year old.
When an abortion is illegal it is sad that some ladies have a back street abortion. It could be dangerous for the ladies. Birth control is not 100% effective and pregnancy can happen even with two forms of it. One of my friends was going an oral form of it and a barrier form. Yet she still got pregnant and she had her baby daughter. Sometimes the man can at fault and the lady just goes along with his wishes.
I think abortion is murder and I am pro-life. I hope that the candidate that is in favor of abortions doesn't get in power in Brazil. However in an election any political party can come to power.

Yes, sooner or later a baby will come. When people use birth control they don't choose to believe it can fail. On my birth board June 2009 I would say that about 60% of the ladies hadn't planned to get pregnant. However they did want to keep their baby.
It is interesting that the candidate had just become a grandmother. I wonder how she can want to be with this political party that agrees with abortion. I wonder what that result of the election will be. In time we will find out.

Maximax8, I am pro-life, too. When I was younger I used to think differently. Thanks God I changed my mind. I have two beautiful kids, and can´t imagine my life without them.
Djbtol , I agree with you. Sooner or later a baby will come, people most be prepared.
About elections here the candidate is a woman, she just became a grandmother. Particulary she said that is against abortion, (she just said that after loosing 6 million of voters) but the political party she represents is not and if she wins, probably will take to the Congress this discussion. Anyway she is leading the run.

Maximax8, election here went to the second round. We are again going to vote in October 31st. Now there are only the two condidate. The candidate woman Dilma Rousseff and the candidate man José Serra. Let´s see what is going to happen. She changed her speech many times because of the discussion about abortion. All the catholics, spiritualistic and christians changed their votes after knowing the program of her political party. The actual president "Lula", is the same party of her, but did not take this subject forward.

i am totally against abortion.
i don't understand it all, why some resort to abortion. even if it is just a few weeks old, it already has a heartbeat and slowly developing, it is already alive! having an abortion means you are killing a person.
instead of resorting to abortion, if you don't want the child, why don't you have the child for adoption so someone can take care and love the child the way you can't

Besides religion , the moral principle is important killing a life will sooner or later will makes one unhappy, When I was serving as headmistress I's seen many of my teachers crying with sadness for having committed abortion. Conscience is the dictator. Whatever we argue - for or against it is not for dogmatism but a question of human conscience that will never give peace later

Life starts when a heart beats and guess what, even in the first weeks (when you find out that you are pregnant) there is already a small heart beating.
I do not like abortion, the intentionally done type. I am against it. The mothers who do this things are dumb and not even thinking right. They should had planned it right from the very start... Family planning, birth control pills, etc... and if it is an unwanted pregnancy, you should suffer the consequences and if you don't want the child, why not give them to the social services instead of throwing them away in the trash bin?

This is a very intense and sensitive topic to discuss about. When growing up, my family's views were all about pro-choice, that it should be the women's choice and should not be forced into giving birth. However, I am now a vegetarian and view life as very precious. Being alive is probably the most important gift we all have. At the same time, I personally would not force a women to not abort, because there are many stories out there of women illegally aborting and dying in the middle of it all. Worse of all, they are hurting themselves through the illegal route. This can also go the other way around, too. I feel there should be options for women, I mean is it better to lose one life or both? No matter how long we discuss in a loophole of which side over another, none of us know what the situation is like for that one single person, or the trauma they went through.
But for me personally, I would never want to abort. A life is a life and every life deserves to live. I am not a religious person, but do have spiritual values. You could say I am pro-choice, but with my own set of belief system behind it. In the end, I would never want to force any person telling them no way will you abort because I believe that life is important (it'd be pretty selfish of me to say, especially to a friend

Abortion is a woman's choice. Nothing more, nothing less. Childbearing is a choice, never an obligation or requirement. I believe every single woman has an inherent right to her own body and the right to decide if she is willing to carry a pregnancy or not. No one ever has any right to make that choice for her, no matter what.

That is very true...understanding that, then every woman has the right to be RESPONSIBLE...you can change the rules all you want to, but you cannot change the results...if you don't wanna get pregnant then don't roll the dice...especially on some creep who's after only one thing any way...ladies, you're better than that.
The woman is the cornerstone of our civilization...she is the queen who balances the home and society...if she strays...God help us all

Define "strays"? Takes control of her own life and sexuality and does not blindly submit to the "barefoot and pregnant" dubious housewife and mother archetype? Sorry, but no. Women have just as much right to their sexuality as men and they are not obligated to bear children as some kind of punishment for it. Childbearing is a choice completely separate of sexuality. No one is required to have children because not everyone is cut out for it.
And even those that are aren't always ready, willing or able at a given time.

The women I've met, who have had abortions, never end up well off. It is better to give the baby to someone for adoption, than to spend the rest of your entire life, being reminded by every small baby you see, that you killed your own.
I'm convinced that post abortion syndrome is real, if only because I've met women that seem depressed and hurt, and can't figure out why.
It's easy for a man to say this, but really just put your child up for adoption. Why risk ruining your life over a mistake? Would it not be more comforting to know your mistake child, is being loved and raised in a whole family that will care for him or her?

Post abortion depression is real for women who were unsure or otherwise coerced into getting an abortion they did not really want. I recommend you look at the website www.imnotsorry.net because many women feel relief and gratitude for getting an abortion. I know women personally who's lives are much better off for having an abortion.

To which "long-term consequences" are you referring?
And yes, like it or not, many, many women who seek abortion feel a great sense of relief.

Good evening dear friend Mosisa , actually seven years back ago , my sister used to have an abortion , since she was only sixteen years old and she had all her life ahead of her , she was scarred and did not wanted to keep the baby , my mother did not wanted either , she was really scarred that my sister would want it , aniway she had an abortion , and me at that time i was more a dreamer and a innoncent guy , and i kiabnd of blamed her ( not outloud of course ) of killing a small life , then four years later , i had to go with the girlfriend i had at the time to the hospital for an abortion ,when my girlfriend at the time told me that she is pregnant , i was really happy , and i really wanted to keep the baby , so i try to talk with her and see if she wqants it , i saw that all out of the blue she got scarred and she was swseating , and she frankly told me that she is scarred and she doesnt wants a baby and i got pretty demoralized but it was only then that i understood my sister , since been a mom , it is the hardest job of them all , and i can't imagine i was expeting someone , to leave theire studdies , their future plans , or theire Colleage for having a baby , on a economical time where is hard to live yourself already.
I guess a baby should come at a time when you cann aford to have it ( time and money ).
I wish ypu a great night dear friend

There is no doubt that when a young girl is pregnant for the first time it will be very scary. She will need lots of support from family and others who love her.
In the long run, she will be most happy if she keeps her baby. Many who choose abortion, pay emotionally for the rest of their lives.

When your sister was 16 years old she had an abortion so she was way too young to make that decision. I guess she couldn't see light at the end of the tunnel. Many ladies that have an abortion get depressed years later because the clock can't be turned back. It must be horrible to have to pay emotionally for the whole life due to a mistake made in the teenage years.

Sometimes the choice the woman takes is because she doesn´t see a light at the end of the tunel. She does not have a support (emotional specially) from their family, friends, boyfried. I agree with what Djbtol says, "...many who choose abortion (intentionally), pay emotionally for the rest of their lives".

When you mention about Brazil, many pictures will come across my mind.
First of all, Brazil is famous in Football. Secondly, I could see those sexy ladies and women sopporting their football team during the world cup competition.
However, I can't believe that abortion is illegal in Brazil.
In my personal point-of-view, abortion is the same as murdering.
In Singapore, abortion is only allowed if the woman pregnant within the short period ( I can not recall, sorry). Why? Because the new life has not started yet.
I have read many articles about abortion. Some people believe that the spirit of the baby whom you aborted will follow you forever. They are supposed with you. They lost the chance to start their new life.
Think carefully when someone plans to abort her baby.

Brazil is much more than soccer, than beautiful girls from Ipanema...
About one million and four haundreds abortions has been done illegally in Brazil per year. Many women die of that act, many suffer severe consequences...
But still I think the question is not to make it legal here. For me is a matter of prnciples and education.

Well i am highly against abortion.
First of all, how could they let their child inside their womb die for they sake.
Thats very selfish of them. Would you take your own baby's life?
They should give those helpless beings a chance to prove themselves and how worthy they are.

abortion in anyway is "haram " ( prohibited in my religion ) , we all know the women whoever doing that practice got their pregnancy from unlawful way, they feel shame, they fell worry, they depressed because of their sins made them feel so...
we all know there is a legal way to enjoy being pregnant, it`s marriage , is not it?
i know we can enjoy it even without marriage relationships but indeed marriage is the safest way of all, cheers,,,

Its the most crasie and st.pid and mad thing to do in this world.
I mean when you decide it intentionally.
You want to know why?????????????
Well simply because if your mother aborted you ,you wouldn't be here thinking about doing it.
Show love to the uunborn child as your mother did to you stupid.

This topic was brought here for discussion because it is what people are talking about here in Brazil. Abortion here is illegal and in two days we are going to elect the next president and one candidate apparently if wins will take the discussion to the Congress. Many people around the world are against it I am one of them.
I don´t know if your last sentence was for me, but I don´t spend my time think of doing that. I am a mother of two children, and they are the most precious thing I have in life.

I agree with you. There are many ways to PREVENT an unwanted pregnancy available now. However, once a woman is with child, abortion is NOT the way out. If the mother cannot keep the child, there is adoption. In the US there are many couples praying for a healthy infant and some who are willing to take any infant.

You know abortion is a crime in itself. Because it will tantamount to killing a child. Born and unborn child have the right to live...
Even here in our country abortion is not legal and those people practicing abortion and those women abort pregnancy will be punished to life sentence...
We don't blame the case to women, my friend. Because they are not being pregnant if there is no man as their partner in love making...
That will be a lack of the government to emphasize the important of human life and family planning method to control birth...
Have a nice day!

Abortion is the murder of a living human being in the womb of its mother, where it should be safest of all places.
The Roe v. Wade decision in the US was a trumped up political machination to condone abortion based on untruths, fallacies, and downright lies.
We have so lowered our moral standards and cheapened all life in allowing this to stand. Instead of telling people to be morally responsible and accountable, especially our children whom we are now teaching promiscuity, we tell them they can "get rid" of any unwanted pregnancy.
With so many people wanting to adopt a child, it is even more foolish.
Yes, there are many ways to avoid pregnancy these days. The most important to teach our children is abstinency until marriage.
In the worst of circumstances within marriage, it is still possible to love a child or give it up to a loving home to those who so want a child.
The lies that have been perpetrated for political fuel about "back alley" abortions are egregious and there are just as many infections, illnesses, even deaths, not to mention dire psychological consequences to "legitimate" abortions.
Abortion is big business as well a political football designed to deceive and manipulate and above all to remove responsibility, accountability, and morality from the hearts and minds of all people.

Abortion is also illegal in my country and a lot of reported women have been doing it anyway and the sad thing here is not only are they killing these innocent angels but they are even throwing it anywhere. They don't even find a place for these fetus to rest in peace..really sad. I think if these women try to control their impulse this unwanted pregnancy won't happen. And if they can't control it, well there are really a lot of contraceptives available over the counter, why can't they use it to prevent this things to happen?!

i would totally disagree on abortion. for me it is no different with murder or killing our own children. i don't know is it really hard to prevent from pregnancy? it is our responsibilities to have some prevention if we didn't plan to have a child. there are some people suffering because can't have a child but why there are people killing their own baby on the other side. should we blame on the society because of no proper education on prevention from pregnancy or people are just immature in controlling themselves before they did something.

I am definitely against abortion. It is a crime. It is a serious sin. How could someone possibly kill an innocent unborn child? In fact, having to live knowing that you killed your own child can harm you psychologically.
