Eyestrain is a major concern of computer users. Computer monitor badly effects on eye. I am realizing it clearly. Due to long time staying in front of my computer I am losing my eye sight gradually. Before I did not use any reading glass but for computer usi(4-5 hours daily) I have to use reading glass. This is a great concern for computer users. So, I am inviting all myLot members to participate for discussing, suggestions and comments on computer eyestrain.

My thinking is that TFT is the best solution for the eyes.Beleive me TFT is especially made for eye protection.Yes,monitors are not good for eyes. But now a days technology is so advance you can sit on TFT 10-12 hoursand it will not harms your eyes also. you can use the laptop instead of monitor. They are the good solution also.because their screen also does not affect the eyes in comparison to monitors.I am the IT guy and experience all these things from many years. If you want some more clarification you can comment on me.

Yes, I feel the strain too. I am working in front of the computer 6 to 7 hours a day, at my work place and back at home too. My eyes senses the strain year to year. But, I do atleast have the glare protector on the monitor always. That helps a lot. I would suggest that people who are working on the computer for long hours should use the glare screen.

Generally I find there are two ways to protect your eyes from eyestrain especially if you spend many hours in front of a computer screen. The first is to practice good habits. Look away from the computer every 10-15 minutes at something in the distance for about 5-6 seconds. This gives your eyes a break from staring at the computer. The next would be to take a break every few hours from the computer, preferably 10-15 minutes per 2-3 hours. This would differ, of course, depending on how long you spend on the computer. As weird as it sounds, you may also want to invest in a good pair of spectacles. It doesn't have to have any power if your eyesight power is fine, but it should be multi-coated (talk to your optician about this) to protect your eyes from the rays of the computer screen. The last thing to do which is optional is to change your monitor. If you're using a CRT monitor (one of those big bulky monitors) you'll definitely want to invest in a good LCD/LED screen. A CRT is quite hard on the eyes, while a LCD/LED is much lighter.

hi halimbd oh yes I have been on here for the biggestpart of most days; and was shocked when the eye doctor told me I have cataracts but most dismaying is the start in my left eye of macular degeneration. I am now taking lutein with multivitamins and also calcium and I have noticed my eye is not getting worse. so if I canstop that in my left eye I will be happy.my right eye is so much better and I now have new glasses. He told me to take breaks and look away often from the keyboard an monitor to rest your eyes.

you use it for thirty minutes, get up and take a break and go back to what you are doing, don't spend too long on the pc because it's not good for you. If you have to work, please take breaks.

I've always been shortsighted, far before I started using a computer and using computers was even common, I had to use glasses to see far and this has gotten worse but whether it's from the computer or it would've gotten worse anyway, I don't know. It is said that eyestrain doesn't damage your sight but there still needs to be more research.

I have a the same problem as your, but not only using 4-5 hours but im using it 8-9 hours daily. I feel that my eyes is irritated and sometime I look blurry. I try to put a filter on my monitor, I hope it can help too. But I agree that eating healthy foods that good for our eyes can trully help.

Yes, its a very good observation in fact, I myself has been alarmed by this fact, somehow, we stay in the computer for more than 6 hours. To this, I am also in search of what should be the best remedy to protect our eyes from eyes strain. Eating healthy foods containing vitamins A, B and E should be eaten regularly. These include eating vegetables such as carrots, squash and some nuts are examples that we should take everyday. Regular sleep is also recommended- discipline through limitation with the number of hours in the monitor is a must. These are things which are basically important in taking care of our eyes.
