What would you do if you found someone's wallet?

I would return it and I hope someone does the same for me too. I would not have a clear conscience if I did not return the wallet. But if someone's wallet carries much cash on it, then the owner would not see it ever again! Who would carry that much cash, he should think wisely then..It is his/her fault he lost his/her wallet, not mine.lol

I have found peoples purses with money inside and everything else and returned them to them. There was a time when I was young that I went to the womans house an left it there for her. Most times its happened though its been left in a shopping cart at a store then I take it to the customer service department. I would hope that if someone found my purse they would return it to me as well. Thats not a very nice attitude that you woud take their money :( Sometimes people have to buy things like large purchases and dont have credit cards so they have to carry large sums of money in their wallets. I would feel guilty taking out someones money and then returning their wallet.

Yes it is better to look inside and if you can find someones contact information then getting ahold of them yourself to give them their wallet or purse back. Therefore you know what was in the purse is being returned and not stolen by the people who work in the customer service department. If money was laying on the ground and there was no wallet or anything with it then I would pick it up and keep it. I would feel bad for whomever lost it though.

I would also pick the money on the ground. I would also feel bad of course. I also have a conscience and I am a God-fearing person.=p
So it is always a best option to return the wallet to the owner than keeping it to yourself...

Well, you are right. If only there is really an information that can lead me to tracing who really is the owner of this wallet, then, I am very willing to return it... Even with lots of cash in it. But I won't trust the police or the customer service... I mean, I think I can trust a customer service in a mall rather than the police department... In our country, I don't trust the police. They will just get the money for sure and keep it on their own, especially when the owner was not contacted or cannot be traced.
How about if you find a lost bill on the ground.. No one has their name imprinted on it that he/she is the owner, so maybe this time... You can keep it. Do you consider this luck?

I will look for his identity card, check out his address. If it's not too far, i will send it back to that person, personally. If not, i will probably send it by mail. I won't bring it to the police station because it's too troublesome with all the statements and notifying. All the more i won't be staying at the same spot to wait, because most people won't realise they drop their wallet till very much later.

If I found somebody's wallet, I would also return the wallet to him or her because after all, that is not mine and I am sure that the person really needs his or her wallet. It is an undeniable fact that we put a lot of very personal and important things on our wallet aside from money like credit cards, receipts, small notes, pictures and others. If this happened to us, we would definitely want our wallet back so that is why if I found somebody's wallet, I would definitely return it.

I separate my Identification and bank cards. I don't place them in my wallet. The only thing in my wallet is cash and some calling cards. I think I am also going to put some phone number and email address for a contact in case of emergencies. I learned this from this discussion. =)
There are so many honest mylotters here! =p
tnx for the response on this discussion. It really helped a lot and I learned something from you too. =p

i wouldn't say i will return it immediately, of course i will be tempted to keep it.it's mine already, like i would think "well, i found it, so this must be really meant for me" and there goes the saying, "finders keepers". but of course as a man, we are capable of feeling conscientious.specially when it comes to our mind that the owners is at his wit's end trying to look for the lost wallet, 'cause maybe he badly needed the money in it for his son's medication.it is up to us to decide to return the money to the right owner or give in to temptation of keeping it for yourself.for me, this time i will do the right thing, and that is to return the lost wallet to the owner.

That was what I was trying to say too. Like as a human being, we all get tempted especially when we are in special need and especially when we are talking about that much cash in someone's wallet.
Would you surrender it to the police? In our country, I don't trust the police. They will just get the money for sure and keep it on their own, especially when the owner was not contacted or cannot be traced.

So you believe in KARMA then.. Yeah, i agree that we should return the things which do not belong to us. Because I also believe in "Do not do unto others what you don't like to do to yourself."
What if you don't really know the owner or the wallet doesn't show any identification card at all.

Hey firstly I want to search the wallet owner. And if any address or phone number I find in the wallet then I try to contact the person who lost his/her wallet. And I give them their wallet. Yes I will do this if in future I face this situation. Because I know what a person feels after lost his/her wallet. I think some person ignores this but a person who always doing hard works and after that he earn their salary so sometime this situations give them pain.

Good thing that you are an honest person. Being honest is really hard especially when you face the situation already. With that big money, many people wouldn't want to return it anymore?

When I lost my wallet before I regretted that I didn't leave there my phone number or email address. I should have allowed the one who recovered a way to contact me so he could return it. I know it was my fault but that time I was not alert and can't keep track of my things. I blame all the people who gave me stress that day although I admit my own mistake.

Do you have cash in it? We should have an identification card in our wallet with a phone number with it. Now I learned this from you guys who replied to this discussion. Thank you for this advice. It really helped me and the topic so I really appreciate your reply cowboyofhell. =p

This happened to me before, it was belong to a woman. There wasn't much money inside the wallet but there was a bank card, few of them and also the owner's Identity Card. That's how I know she was a lady. It was so difficult to find the closest police station that time because I could see her postal address, but I couldn't find any phone number. So I just waited until I got back to the city then I went straight to the bank she's using. I asked them to call the owner of the bank card, and she eventually came. She was around the city that time because she was trying to go and make a police report for her Identity Card.

Good thinking going to the bank and trying to call her. That was so nice of you.
Did you get a reward?lol
Some IDs and bank cards are really important to the person and it is valuable to return it to the owner. Maybe I would also do that if there are really too many important stuff on the wallet.

I would return it, with all of the money inside. People lose their wallets for any number of reasons, not just carelessness, and I would feel like a thief if I took the money out of it first. In fact, I lost my wallet once because someone "lifted it" out of my purse at the mall. The wallet was found in the garbage can, with everything in it besides the money. I was very relieved, believe me!

Really? That happened to you? You are so lucky! Did you carry that much money in your purse then? So sad yet a happy incident that you had it back except for the cash, of course.
You are right. It is caused by either the two. carelessness or someone snatched it or what else?
