I have worked for this company for 1 year. So, I will receive about 1 month of salary such as end-year bonus. My colleagues say that they have worked here 3 years and the boss promised that they'll receive 4 months of salary such as end-year bonus on December. However, the boss hold a meeting and to announce that he won't pay 4 months of salary for them. I don't have enough money to do it. Instead of, he'll pay only 2 months of salary. There are many staffs say that they'll leave off if the boss don't keep his promises? Are they right? How are your advises?

it is definitely devastating when it involves money. Well at least they get the 2 months. What about those that don't even get a penny. When there is a better and greener field out there, by all means, change your job since you have been cheated. On the other hand, I believe your boss has been truthful as to declare a lower bonus although in the beginning he assured everyone.

are they luck when they can get 2 months salary instead of they must have 4 months? They're very angry because they feel they're cheated!

if they really been upset by the cheating, by all means get a collective voice from all and make an appeal. Anyway when the boss declared a 4 month bonus, they was not a black and white agreement. So no point to be upset unless, if there is someone willing to sue the boss, or make a decent appeal on the case. As simple as that, or by all effort and team spirit, leave the organization and see what is the outcome. Anyway, no one is indispensable. So, save the anxiety and do something about it =)

Next time, ask your boss to promise under legal statement. Ask him to sign the paper. So if he breaks the promise all of you can sue him. Or, yeah, just leave him! Why? If you cannot efford to pay your employees then do not make a promise, right?

Yes, you're right. We should do it! But I think that no more people will do it again. They will leave the job in new year.

In Bangkok, you may have many, many job opportunities, but here in the USA where we are currently seeing almost 10% of people out of work (17% is the real number if you count the ones who no longer have the will to look for a job), I, for one, would happily accept NO Months bonus and be thrilled to have any job at all.
Tell your boss if he moves to York, Pennsylvania, USA, he has one person who will work for salary alone and no bonus.
It seems the whole world is having serious problems because governments have jumped in to make sure people get everything provided at the boss's expense and the bosses are finding out they can no longer afford to pay for insurance of all kinds, sick and annual leave, hand over up to 6% in matching funds for 401K plans for their people. They end up with a choice - lower the cost of the goodies or let some employees go.
You might want to find out WHY your boss can't pay the full four months. And, you and the others might want to be grateful you are getting anything as a bonus. Most companies here are wondering how to make payroll, much less pay out large bonuses.

I would not be happy in my job if my employer broke a promise to me. It would probably make me seriously consider looking for new employement. if i am not happy with an employer, i couldn't be happy in staying with the job.

Almost employer often promise the best things for their staffs. Then, they broke them. The main is much or little. I think that. If we can't accept them, we can leave the job. Do you think so?

My boss has broke a lot of his promises already and he has his reasons. I don't have the right to get mad but i do have the right to collect his promises and remind him somehow. If i really don't like the management already, i will simply leave the company.

I value my integrity and will always keep my promises unless some real emergency prevents me from doing so. And real emergencies are quite rare with me really. If a promise isn't kept to me, I regard this as the person who made the promise lacks integrity. I would certainly point it out, but there's nothing more I can do about, and will let go of it, because holding on to something and judging them as being wrong, would only cause me more stress.
In the world, things change especially where financial matters are concerned. Therefore I would have to question my bosses integrity very closely and maybe there is nothing that he can do about such broken promises, and therefore I would accept the position. But if there is something that he could do and he is just being greedy, then I would have no respect for him and be on the look-out for another job. As a Zen practitioner I work with the principle that the truth will set you free. _Derek

Maybe your boss, suffer from losses in his company that is why he told that to all of you...
I don't know about your labor law there...but if we follow the international labor standard...there will be an end year bonus and a 13th month pay

Well, I will give him another chance. He might be seriously planning of really giving the bonuses on the day when he said that but soon after checking his total worth, he decided that he can not afford to keep his promise.:(
Sad, but you have to live with it. You should however be grateful to him that as early as now,he had summoned the courage to tell you to not to expect anymore. Some bosses may not care at all, besides, you are just an employee...
If they wanted to resign then that is their decision but they must consider how difficult it is to find a job especially that it is almost a year end. But if they are so decided about it, then, there's no reason why your boss will stop them.
As for me, just like I said I will give him another chance maybe for a year and see what will happen. I can only hate him silently but that's all I can do for now.:)

Well, I think it's expected of bosses. Their intention might be good at the time they made the promise, but there are just some things that we can't control. I agree, it's devastating when it involves money. It happened to me, and it was not a good feeling. I wasn't able to trust my boss for a while after that. When it comes to salary promises, the best thing that anyone can do is have a contract that your boss can sign. That way he will think twice about making such promises. On your end, you can also feel secured in knowing that there is a contract.

I guess I can relate to this issue. If its aleady certain that a promised was broken, there can also be valid reasons for it. But think first which is important for the mean time. If you decide to quit before the year ends, your christmas season may not be that merry. We know how high expenses can go during the rush season.

I thhink you should have some legal backup on that one ..
Your boss making a promise doesn't mean a thing if it's not written black on white.
You should always make clean contractual deals when it comes to money!
For the rest, good luck with getting your money.

It sometimes happen though, it can make you down but don't think too much of it can ruin on how you work for the company maybe the company has some financial problems and cannot cater those promises.
At least your boss was honest not to pay those promised payables and payed only half of it. I am not into sympathizing your boss because i am also a worker whose into same situation. Last month is my annual increase but it did not happen what i am thinking now to keep me going is that company may have some financial problems for now so to help the company i must work harder and harder for sure i will be get paid for it.
If you think you been cheated by the company try to apply for other company that would offer you more benefits and can keep promises as simple as that. Because if you stayed on one company and always thinking of the broken promises it really ruin down yourself on how your work so its better to find another company.

Well at least your boss was honest and fast enough to call for a meeting and told you guys the problem before the day everyone suppose to receive their end year bonus. And he did say that he does not have enough money, but two months salary is still good enough. A lot of people that are working with other company and have been with them for many years, but never even receive a bonus. Those staff who said they would leave just because of that four months issue, they can and it is up to them to decide but they must not expect to have exactly the same salary they are getting or the same amount of bonus they are receiving with a new company. So it is better to think before taking any action, it is not easy to find a decent job nowadays. Even a boss won't always be rich, and they do deserve to be understood in some cases. Good luck to you and have a nice day
