Why do some people who has a thin body don't usually get fat, even though they eat a lot?For people who has thin or lean body structure,is there any chance that they will get big in a normal weight? I don't have any idea why they don't get fat, aside from if there is an underlying disease or parasites. What if they are healthy, cause they eat a lot of nutritious foods but still they don't get big.
Any health tips for them? like what type of exercise, or something else that would make them have a normal body weight.

Hi Bing
I agree with you, the reverse is also equally true, some eat too less, but keep on adding weight, it is probably linked to some gene they inherited!!!
Well i can recommend about yogic breathing exercise as taught by Ramdeb Baba of india, these breathing exercise keep your weight at right level, you lose if over weight, add if underweigt!!!!
Thank you so much for this nice discussion.

Because, their body type is like that. They don't even get a single amount of extra fat. I have seen such people. They are not only thin, but also very fast in activity and also they are much powerful too than some fat guys.

I had an office mate who eats a lot. She normally eats 2 cups of rice for lunch and dinner. And she's so thin. Weighs maybe only a hundred to a hundred-and-five pounds. Anyway, she doesn't really have an exercise routine. She only does it sometimes when she feels like it or when she has the time. Actually, she never exercised before. She told me that it was actually a doctor who advised her to exercise because her health is not that good. I don't really know what it is, but maybe just her resistance to sicknesses is low. She always gets sick and has been absent a lot of times. But I'm thinking her weight might also be from the stress because her work is VERY stressful. My boyfriend used to be very very thin as well. He told me it runs in their family. But I've watched them, they're thin because they don't eat a lot. Over the years I've "fed" my boyfriend, brought him to a lot of restaurants and basically treated him to a lot of meals, and now, he is pleasantly plump. :)

Wow, you are a loving and concern girlfriend, my boyfriend did that to me too, he treated me always, and if its a treat, Its really nice to eat a lot. and hope your office mate will get well and take some exercise sometime. Just advise her not to be stressed by her work. But I'm glad for her that she eats a lot of rice every meal.LOL, As for me, I must continue eating a lot and take my exercise lightly.

Metabolism has a lot to do with how much weight we gain (or lose) and also has a big effect on our immune system. People that have a high metabolism tend not to get sick as much and also not gain weight from the occasional overeating spats. One great way to increase your metabolism is to drink plenty of water on a daily basis. Everyone should drink at least 64 fluid ounces of water each day. Few people do this however, since it is somewhat of a chore to get it done daily. Water is also important in flushing out toxins, keeping our skin looking young, and helps protein synthesis which is responsible for efficiently creating muscle mass.

I would prefer to let my metabolism slower because If it gets faster, then I will be skinny, and always be underweight, are they any other tips, on how to slower your metabolism?
I believe in you that water therapy is also the best way to rehydrate our body and remove the toxins in our blood circulation. I'll also take your advise. Thanks Rallon.

I used to be thin (underweight) and worry about how to be able to get some weight on. I eat a lot and I eat anything. Maybe because, at that time, I was burning out all my fats with work. Later, when I turned 46, I gained a lot of weight (just about obese weight) because I started to do less work and still eat more. I felt sickly and I can't hardly walk a good distance without feeling aches. Somehow, I managed to trim it down 2 years after. Now, I'm at normal weight and I feel healthier. I don't do much work nowadays but I work on the pc many hours a day, eat less meat, eat more fish and veggies but still, I do indulge in my favorite foods but only once in a while, like 1-2x a week. My only real exercise is walking, so whenever I go to the grocery or mall, I spend an hour walking around before I do my shopping.

Maybe age also tells, I also read most of the responses, that as we get older our metabolism slows down, like you, because of work and stuffs that make us stress made our body weak too, so even though how much we eat, stress really affects our health. Today, I will not surrender eating nutritious food and as well as I'll do some exercise. I'm glad that you attain your ideal weight already and you controlled your diet and exercise. I believe walking for 30 mins. is the best way to have A healthy body.

yeah, do you have any idea on how to let our metabolism faster or slower?
some of the advises they have is to drink the milk that can gain weight, and I think the function of the milk is to increase our appetite, and I think the problem is not with my appetite, because I eat a lot and I love to eat. Anyway, hope we an idea on how to slow our metabolism at our young age.

I think it's probably one of three things, or a combination of these. First of all, even though it may appear they are eating a lot, they might not be eating high-calorie foods but fruits and vegetables. Secondly, they might have a high activity level, and so they burn the calories they consume. Thirdly, they might be blessed with a high metabolism.

The three factors, may be the reasons why some thin person like me don't get fat,
sometimes I would think that it would be better to sleep and eat and sleep and eat ageain..hehe Its quite too childish. =)

Up to the age of about 35 years, I could eat and eat and eat and never put on an ounce. I tended to be on the thin side and always had a huge appetite from the age of about 12 years. When I hit 40 though, I noticed that I was putting on a little extra weight and felt pleased that I would get rid of my thin-ness and this worked well for about 3 years.
But then the weight kept going on and for the first time in my life, I found myself having to cut back on what I was eating, which wasn't an easy thing to do at the time at all! Now, I am about right for my height, and have gotten used to eating smaller amounts of food than I did in my youth. _Derek

hello derek,
I believe that what you eat when you're in your youth times, really affects your body weight in the future. I'll continue eating nutritious food, so that when I get older I may found myself, in a normal body weight already. LIke yours, I have the right weight for my height.^_^

Metabolism can vary from person to person. It also would depend on the food that the people are eating. You can eat lots of vegies and salads and not get fat. I have a girlfriend that is obese she hardly eats and exercises alot during the day. I on the other hand are skinny eat probably 5x as much as her and not exercise at all. I am 6ft 3 and 85kg. I am technically on the lower range of average and the high range of underweight. If that makes sense. I can eat and 5min later i'm hungry again. I think I can see a doctor about it maybe I have some thyroid problem that makes me not feel full but i am still skinny though. Exercise can increase metabolism which can help with weight loss but not the only way to lose weight.

You eat five times as much as her? wow, that's cool, we have something in common, late after I ate a lot of food maybe 15 to 20 minutes my stomach growls again, and I have to eat again and again. I sometimes, be little of food, so I'm that skinny, I may also think that I have a parasite within me, but glad no, hehe because I'm taking antiox once a year and no parasite has come out when I defecate. =) Again, I have to eat and eat nutritious foods.

It depends on your metabolism - and your daily activity level, and the amount of calories you consume. I'm pretty thin and I eat more than some guys do - some days. However, I also try to add enough daily activity or I go work out, I joke that I go work out because I love to eat. If you eat more than you burn, you will put on weight, and it seems to be harder to lose weight after you've gained it the older you are when you put it on, or when you decide to try to shed it. Our metabolisms slow down as we age in most cases, so you either have to add more activity to burn more calories, or cut down the amount you take in when you eat, usually a combination of both.
Cardio burns calories and helps you lean out... walking, running, constant motion aerobic activity of any sort like rollerblading, skating, biking, rowing, swimming, etc. Lifting weights or using body weight exercises helps you build muscle, which helps strengthen your bones and also helps you burn more calories, because muscle burns more than fat does. If you have more muscle, you will burn more, even while sleeping.

Mommyboo, those you mention above, may help me out when I get fat,and when I need to burn my fats out, but as of now, I would prefer to do minor exercises and I like the way your said it, I'll go work out too "means I'll go eat more" hehe, I'm lean and I want to be solid too, a solid lean..=)

I'm one of these people And I also eat really big. But maybe because at the same time I'm very active. I walk to work everyday and also always in rush that I have to keep running sometimes. Then I go and play sport anytime I have a chance to, I also love to go for a swim and if I could, I always try to do this activity few times a week I don't have any health problem at all. I may eat a lot but I also lost them very fast because I'm active, and when I'm active and always producing sweat, the health is there and the appetite to eat is always on stardard
Good luck and happy mylotting1

I am not professional in this line. Never expect me to provide professional advise to you.
Anyhow, I just can chat with you in the past experience I have heard.
Mostly the person is having the below possibilities:
1) Have worms inside his/her stomach. Get some medicine to clear it.
Please consult the doctor.
2) It is because of the same gene from any of his/her family.
3) He/She is having certain sickness. Consult the doctor and ask for a medical
check up if it is required.
4) Other factors (No clear).

I have consulted our family doctor already and she said that it is in our genes, like my mother before she is so skinny , and so I take the advise of our family doctor, that this is not a big deal, all I have to do is to eat and eat more nutritious food.
Thanks aeiou.^_^

People who eat a lot and are not fat most likely have a fast metabolism. The nutrients they get from the food they eat are being used up immediately that their bodies are unable to store fat. People who have fast metabolism and want to gain weight should probably live a more relaxed lifestyle, but not sedentary, if they are athletic. Or go to a gym and consult them for what type of exercises you should have.

Just the same what's running in my mind, because I'm not blessed with that feature. If I ate a lot, it will surely add up to my waistline thus makes me bigger. Well, I already relayed the same query to a medical practicioner and according to them, it has something to do with the metabolism of a person. So yes, exercise and proper diet is the best help we can acquire to have the normal body weight.

Not everyone has the same metabolism. Some thin people can eat whatever and whenever they want and hardly gain a pound. then there are some people who gain weight at just the mention of their favorite foods.

I strongly agree to this because me myself. eats a lot but I hardly gain weight Sometimes I envy people who rarely eat but they are lean. Just like the Americans they don't usually eat three times a day but look at them they are lean and they much muscles in their body.

I think you're confusing things... a person who can eat a lot and can't get fat is always in a healthy weight due to a quick metabolism, so the body will burn what you eat instead of letting it deposit as fat. It has nothing to do with parasites or diseases.
That kind of person -I'm one of those- can't gain weight, but we don't really need to gain any weight, as being overweight is very unhealthy, and we can keep our bodies slender and healthy eating as much as we can
However, if you want to know how to gain weight not being fat weight, there's a way, and that's gaining muscle. Muscles are heavy.

Gaining muscles is better, but for a woman? is it good to see a woman with muscles?
anyway, I'm stick thin, underweight with my height, I eat a lot but still can't gain weight, im not sick and no parasites,I already take the necessary right actions for my health.Still I didn't gain weight, but its ok, i'll continue having balanced diet.

For those people who are thin, they have fast metabolism. Inorder for them to gain weight they should eat more often and a lot more food than they usually eat. They should engaged themselves into weight gaining exercises. They should have themselves thoroughly checked by their respective physicians so as to know if there's underlying diseases.
