Reasons for salary increase

Hi.
I'm going to transfer to another department and I believe that there will be more work for me. I'm not sure if I will be given an increase in salary but if they didn't open up the matter, I'll try to start discussing it.
Also, our leadership consider this as a lateral transfer. Meaning, the value of the position is the same as my current position.
Now, what do you think is the best approach for this? This will be my first time to bargain for an increase and most of my colleagues are receiving more compared to mine, even though I contributed more for the company than them.

You deserve an increase in your salary if you are accepting a new position or being promoted which entails new and great responsibilities. But as you said that your superior mentioned that you are just moving to another department is a different matter. Maybe you cannot ask a suddend increase but if you try to ask them and they agree then that's good. If I were you I would try to request that to my superior. If they said that it's too soon for an increase, then I'll give my best to do my job and show them that I deserve a raise. So maybe after a couple of months and they evaluate me and see how I perfomed my job then there is no reason for them to turn back my request.

Well, this is an option if my request is not granted immediately.

Hi,
Since you got transfer to another department, it means
you will learn more new things and have more work loads.
Then it will be chance for you to get salary increment.
Of course, there is a possibility that your employer may not
raise up the salary increment issue to you yet,and you can
make the first move since you have serviced to this company for
long.
Of course, you have to approach your employer in the right time and right way.
Have a good chat with him/her and I hope you can get it done successfully.

Hi Ron,
If you were told it's a lateral transfer you might as well not expect too much from it. But it is best to look at the job content, coz it may be of the same level as your current job, but the job content could carry more weight which should merit an increase. This matter should be discussed with you prior to the actual transfer, and if they don't, you should bring up the matter, be professional when you do it.

I already brought this up during the interview but they said that the HR department will discuss this matter to me. And also, my bosses said that it is difficult to justify an increase for a lateral transfer.
But the thing that I only want from them is that they back me up for asking an increase.

Hi harold. To ask for an increase in salary is a big concern. You not only have to find the right reasons, but also the right time. You'll be kicked out of your boss's office if you ask when the boss's mood is not good.
Also, You should have a good relationship with your boss. It will earn your request more chance to be fulfilled

Hi ronharold,
I understand your feeling that salary must be increased to encourage your effort in new position and obligation. In my opinion, it must be that your capacity is better than others to be upgraded a higher position. So, you first should finish all your new duties with your best and salary will be considered by your leaders.
Not many people deserved to be got your money compared to their contribution. I share this point with you. Not to pay attention to other colleagues. Leaders will recognize what person should be had an increase. Hope you will get a happy new from your boss soon.

One thing to keep in mind is to just let the facts do the speaking. Try not to be very "emotional" so to speak and simply keep backing the facts and you should be fine.

Asking for a salary increase affects everyone, it can be difficult causing frustration and ill feeling. If you are a manager, you will need to handle salary negotiations positively. You need to adopt a constructive approach to salary negotiation. It is important always to recognize the difference between the value of the role that you perform and your value as an individual. The two are not the same. If you feel frustrated about your pay levels despite trying all of the techniques and ideas for achieving a pay rise, it could be that your boss has simply reached the limit of the value that they can place on your role, which is different to your value as an individual. You could have a high potential value but if your role does not enable you to perform to your fullest extent then your reward level will be suppressed. For example, does a professor who sweeps the street deserve a street sweepers salary or a professors salary?

Absolutely you should discuss this as you do not want to find out later that they realized it was never discussed and although it was intended they then find that it would be okay not to give you additional money.
I would certainly bring up a discussion by saying I do have a few questions about the position, and causally say that you are a very detailed oriented person and want to begin the new department on the right path. Then bring up whether or not your salary will merit an increase. Talking about money is always a bit hard but if you do not ask you may not get.
Good luck to you it sounds like you are a hard working person therefore deserve your merits.

Thanks for the advice. My boss is not the one who will justify my increase but the HR department. Hope I can pull it through and get what I deserve.
