What kind of gifts to do you give?

Since Christmas is just around the corner... I would like to know what kind of gifts do you give? Do you give generic gifts like clocks, table display, pens, etc? Or do you give gifts that are useful like shirts, hanky, bag, etc? Or do you just ask the person, what he/she likes and buy that gift. Well, for me I observe what that person likes. If he likes gadgets, I buy gadgets. If she likes accessories, I buy accessories. If he/she collects something, I usually buy a gift to add to his/her collection. How about you?

I usually try to know the person better to get to know what she/he wants and needs and I look at my budget if it fits. Am afraid that if I greet you merry xmas it might come sooner than soon. So, cheers santosmarichris.

That's a smart way of giving gifts, because you wouldn't want to give something that the other person won't like. Me, I put a lot of thought in my gifts. I think beyond what the person has and wants and likes. I buy or make things that the person could like, without them even knowing it. Last year, I planned (and paid for) a ski trip for my parents. We live in a tropical country, and they mentioned one day that they missed snow. So that's what I gave them.

I don't like giving gifts that are not practical or functional. Most of the time I give clothes for gifts. I observe what the person want. I also look back from our conversations and recall what they said they'd like to have. That way they get surprised that I remembered. When the person is really important to me, I give lots of gifts in one day. Sometimes little gifts in one wrap with post-its of why I gave it. And sometimes I give nice big gifts to make them feel more special. I like seeing them open the gifts and shriek with happiness or see their glittering eyes. :)

My gifts are mostly homemade as I donĀ“t have much money to spend and I loathe this new way of looking at life where people are worth for what they have instead of by what they are.
So, to my loved ones, I made jams, pickles and chutneys depending on their tastes. I beg for and recycle jars all year to have enough for my gifts. I also recycle wrapping paper and nice bows. This year I planted some flowers that can be dried and be used to make gifts even more beautiful.
Homemade cookies and other goodies like those are highly apreciated too. I also make a wonderful apricot liqu or with the apricots of the tree I have in my gardeden. This year I also planted raspberries so the bounties will be bigger.
When my husband was alive, his usual presents were the least expensive ball point pens (so he could be free to lose one a day), canned peaches (a craving from his youth) and a piece of parmesan cheese that was wholly his. Clothes, and other things were part of life if we could buy it. Those small things were just symbols of love.

the first thing to consider is what the person likes to have as a gift.sometimes its better to ask first the person what she/he wants to receive this Christmas season.sometimes we like to know whats they like because it happens many times i gifted the same design of shirt and handbag or has similarities which she had already that's why i prefer to ask now than before.i still prefer to gift anything she/he can use of it and sometimes just a Christmas card has also sentimental value from the receiver.as long the person is happy that's the essence of gift giving.

I too try to observe what the person needs or asks what he/she needs. I think it's important to really be observant so that you will not waste buying something that the person you have given the gift to will not use or will just put it aside. So it's better to be sure that the person likes the gift and he/she will surely use it.

I usually buy practical gifts, something people may use in their homes or cars. When I buy clothes as gifts, for instance, it's more likely that I buy pajamas, slippers, bathrobes, funny socks or mittens.
In one of the yearbooks in college I was named "the least likely to give stuffed toys as gifts", and I think that's quite accurate.
A lot of my friends had their first child this year (it's that age group :) ) so this Christmas there will be fewer presents for them and more for their children - and they better get used to that, because I can't stop shopping for kids, the stores are so much more tempting than those for adults.

Oh,yes ,I agree with you.And I always buy something that someone is interested in.I also think that I should buy something that I like very much to give people as the gift whether it is cheap or expensive,it is my good will. This is my opinion.Have a good day.

I do the same as you. I usually check what the person likes before buying a gift for him or her. But for those that I love the most, I buy something that is quite important to them that would really make a pleasant surprise. May it be expensive or not, I always consider the use of such and often buy that something that is quite useful to such person. I usually do not ask, since it takes away the element of surprise....after all, a gift is more satisfying when that person does not know that its coming...

Last Christmas I give towels- I was able to locate a store where they had this personalized towels. I matched every personality that a person I'm giving the towel with. Aside from the fact that it has their names on it, it matches some sort of drawings or whatever it is called on it that to me matches the person I'm giving it away. I stick with those towels its not only just it has its personalized touch but also it is reasonably affordable.
I'm actually thinking a different stuff this year, pillows maybe.

Since I love to give something which which really came from me, I'm going to give self-made beaded jewelries especially for girls. And home-made sweets and candies for guys. I know everybody would received many different things, so I would not bother to ask them what they wish to have, I will give them something really came from me and made by me instead. Have a nice day.

It depends on the person that I am buying the gift for. I buy Christmas presents for my children and spouse, my nieces, siblings and my mother. When it comes to what I get for all of the kids, I try to get them some toys because I really don't buy toys for them during the rest of the year. Then I also get some clothes for them because I know that kids always need clothes. When it comes to my siblings, I try to get them movies that I know they will enjoy and other things that are within their interests. Then for my husband and my mother, I get things that I know will be useful to them.

I don't usually give gift even if it's Christmas or birthdays... Because I don't have enough money to buy a gift... If I have the money and I can afford to buy a gift, well then that's where I will buy...
If I can't give a gift to someone I know like a friend or my siblings, just a hug and my presence into that special day... Unlike others, giving expensive gift but absent to that special day....

I try to ask them all through the year and learn about their preferences, so I can buy something suited for each person. And this way, I can also buy presents all year round, when I see them. It saves me a lot of time during the holidays, since it means I already have some presents ready. If I really can't find anything personal, that I know they would love, I might get something generic, but I really try to avoid it.
