I graduated this year as a nurse and recently passed the board exams. My friends and I have been looking for jobs but we didn't pursue nursing jobs yet. Since most of us didn't stick to the jobs we applied, we are now spending time off anything. lol We want to hang out and have fun before we tend to get serious. We have been attending seminars, so it's not totally a waste of time, right? How about you guys? Would you prefer working immediately or would you rather spend time doing stuff you want to do before getting a job?

After passing my boards, I applied for work and thank goodness I got the job immediately. After saving some amount I treated my mother for a trip outside the country. Whatever you want to do as long as you are happy an it is for self improvement go for it. . Grab every opportunity that comes. And enjoy life

It is nice to apply for any kind of job related to your field and at the same time get a Masteral degree at nearby school.

Probably I am a lazy person that's why I'm not out there again offering myself to companies. I am a target of a big call center company and I just kept refusing to go. I thought I didn't want to become a nurse before but when I thought about it, I think I really do. I cannot see myself as an agent or something else aside from being a writer and a nurse. I want to earn and be independent financially but I don't think I am up to it yet. lol

i actually took a route to my career that is quite unusual from how my batchmates wanted it to be. when i was on my third year in college, my classes were all scheduled at night. so i decided to work in the morning so i won't get bored and at the same time start building my career earlier than everybody else.i was thinking everybody who recently graduated would have the same details in their resume except for some who had been the batch's cream of the crop. unfortunately i wasn't one of the smarties then. so i wanted mine to stand out. by the time i graduated, i already was able to work full time for entry level positions in two companies. so while others are just starting with their careers, i was already poised to take on junior exec posts. employers often look at applicants who are either excellent academically or are already experienced with the type of job they are filling for. even if working and studying at the same time deprived me off my social life, i never regret having done that early because it has brought me to where i am today.

hi there! if it were me, i would have spend more time doing stuffs i wanted to do. i'll have a little vacation before working. because i believe when you start working you'll never get the privilege of vacation. because it's a more serious thing now. and besides that will be your gift to yourself after so many years of non-stop studying. but you can still look for job while spending your vacation too. so whenever you find one i think you had enough of your vacation. happy mylotting! congrats on your graduation! and good luck your job hunt! have fun!

You are right. When one has a job, it's really difficult to go on vacation with friends and family. That's what I observed from the other people. I am thinking of applying as a nurse in one of the hospitals here but it wouldn't be too soon before they would be contacting us I guess. So basically I have a lot of free time at the moment. =D Thank you!

Hi,
After my graduation from my university, I started to look for
a job, I really wanted to earn money for myself.but
it take time to get a good job and with so many graduates around,
the competition is tough.
I took more than 4 months to get my first job and I was glad that my
first pay is not bad.
Some people tend to get themselves relax first after graduation, for me,
I still can relax while searching for the job that I want.
But then I just don't want to waste so much time on relaxing as everyday
I need money to survive.

True, there are lots of graduates every year. Looking for a job is a tough one, especially for a first job. It is not total relaxation if you're joining seminars to enhance your skill in a certain field though.

I have already started working even before I went to my college. I worked for 2 years after high school until I finally knew and sure what I wanted to do and to be. Then 2 years after I pursued my study to college for hospitality and still working on a part-time basis to get extra money. Then after I graduated from my college, I continued working with the hotel where I have worked at as a part time before to permanent. Then 2 years after with the hotel and I saved enough money for vacation I took a flight to different country for big vacation haha!

Good for you! I don't know why but I have been saying no to job opportunities. lol I have to go volunteer and have a training for the red cross. At least I am sure I would be able to use these skills in the future.

I'm also finally taking the break I haven't experiences since first semester in college. lol. I've been lazing around the house. I've applied for a couple of jobs not related to nursing jobs and joined a seminar. I also want to relax a little before I go serious, well, i'm planning to start being serious next year. Hopefully I'd get a job this month too, to save up for december hehe... ^_^

I believe we have the same course? And I really think we go to the same school. lol I have been doing the same things as you do and I am going to be serious next year, definitely! I am going to undergo a Basic Life Support Training with the Red Cross next week. Hopefully we reach the minimum number of people. I am also planning on reviewing for the NCLEX next year. I don't care if I get ahead of my elder brother anymore. =D

Taking the seminars is a good move, but if you have spent time getting this degree, it is probably time that you start using your skills and building a work history in your field. If you do not have to work full time then just look for a part time position and continue with some extended learning.

I have some pending seminars with the red cross next week so I guess if I go look for a job, I might probably not be able to attend to these seminars. The certificates I would get from such seminars are helpful for me to land a staffing position though.

i did.. compared to my other colleagues. i went home and stayed there for like a week and started working after that. i landed on a job situated out of town so it was kind of hard for me cause i've never been away with my family this far at first. but it's cool now.
i sometimes hope that i took time bumming around my parent's house and enjoy doing nothing before and after i wake up. cause i hardly can find time to relax sincei started working. my off from work is not enough.

Wow, that was too soon. I love hanging around the house this time but I am hoping that I wouldn't have to keep this up for a year. I worry that I might get too lazy to get off my butt and look for a job. =D

It depends on your financial situation. If I was you I would take some time off and do some travelling then return home and get stuck into finding a job. If your finances do not allow that then I suggest obtaining any kind of work and saving up for a well-deserved holiday after all that studying. Good on you for working so hard.

Better to get a jobs immediately if there is an opportunity. Because as of this days people are increasingly looking for jobs and competition is so huge...
Congratulations my friend for passing the board exam...If I were you I prefer to work immediately if the opportunity is knocking your door...because it's not only jobs but the experience you get and the number of years...
The earlier the better...

If you mean a nursing career by grabbing an opportunity, I certainly would, however, there is none to date. It is too difficult with a surplus of nurses that is also a reason why I am biding my time by attending seminars and trainings. At this point, I think it's best to look before I jump into things.

It is more like the value of the individual. For me, I graduated when the economy is not good. My family is in a rather bad condition and I don't have much choices but hunting for job right away.
But then, I believe to spend some time before getting a job on something we really like such as going on long trips. The truth is that once we are in the job market, it is not that easy to have such a chance of holidays up to months.

That is true. Since nurses are a surplus nowadays, it really is difficult to look for a job that is why I preferred to undergo seminars and trainings for me to further enhance my skills. I know I would miss this lazy life I lead today but when I do find a job, I would just have to accept the fact that that was the main reason why I studied in the first place. =D

i started working in a hospital as a job order right after i passed the nursing board exam. but i gave it up bcos of DOLE nars project then after the 6mos contract that ended last april, i really wanted to work back in the hospital but i wasnt able to. im still waiting cos they said its going to resume nextmonth which im really hopin for. i still need more experience to be able to work abroad. Unemployment rate of nurses is a major concern now due to booming nursing population. Weve become a factory of nurses

Were you working as a volunteer nurse in the hospital? One of the members of the board of nursing told us during our oath taking ceremony that the hours of volunteer duty are uncredited by the employers from abroad. They prefer nurses with MAN and only staffing experience. The Philippines is a factory of nurses and it is not doing the country any good at all. Many of the universities are producing nurses just because they can produce nurses. Most of which end up unemployed since they do not have enough skills and lack knowledge. It is a sad reality that the country is facing.

I graduated in 2005 for my Bachelor degree in Sociology. I did work as a Group Home Counselor after graduation but did not like it. I kept working but in other fields like marketing, administrative, etc. The only breaks I got was between jobs. I wish I would have took a little bit of more time to smell the flowers.

A downside of having to work early but an upside if you want to have a lot of experiences listed on your resume. =D

Its expected by parents that their children at least will find a job after graduation, that happens to me or just simply a necessity to help the family. I immediately find job when I graduated not because my parent pushes me to do so, but I have a younger sibling that I need to help as well. And besides its really a shame to ask my parents my personal needs as well, but even I'm still studying I do find jobs. Leisure on the contrary are done in between, we hang out with friends one weekends where most of us had a free time.

It is a sort of tradition of Filipinos to go look for a job when they graduate and help out their parents so as to avoid having the parents get a financial burden for the said child who just graduated. I am a Filipino and I do not want to burden my parents that is why even without a job, I do not ask them for money. Whatever I have saved, that is what I use when I go out. In a time of scarcity of jobs and picky employers, there are also picky job hunters. Picky in a sense that I am waiting for the right time to go have a job since it is my own mother who would tell me to be at home rather than look for a job.

I graduated this year, february, and I'm still doing the stuff I want to do XD In between I did look for jobs, attended seminars, had a small business, tried online jobs etc. but I pretty much stayed unemployed the entire time. When I graduated, I told myself that I gotta enjoy life to the fullest and do the things I want before getting a job, cause I've been studying all my life and I need a break, and when I do start working, I'll be working for the rest of my life and there will be no breaks -_-

I am under the same field as you are. I am also a registered nurse. When I graduated last year, I went straight to review. So I got really tired after the board exam because it was all work and no play stuff. I took vacation after the board exam. I didnt find work 3 months after the results were released. Then when summer came, I applied for a volunteer work at a local hospital. It is really tiring to went on duty without any salary. But I always think of it as an experience. So now, I am done with my volunteer work. And taking a vacation again, I am going to look for a job after this month.

I also reviewed for the board exams right after graduation and passed. I never thought of getting a job before the board results were released and I thought I would want to look for a job after that. I don't really have a plan but I guess plans are a waste if you would not follow them at all because of some factors. I am going to go volunteer in a local hospital and I am going to see where life would take me after that.

I don't think I'd want to start right away, but I think I'd like a job lined up after I graduate for security reasons. I would probably like to travel after graduation and just relax and move to a more stable place. I'm worried about not having any money to do this all though.
