What animal (not a pet/domestic) crosses your path?

When I go for a walk or a drive it is usual for a rabbit to run across the road in front of me.
About once every two weeks a squirrel will sit and stare at me.
About once a month or two months a deer will dart out infront of us.
If it is in the evening just before dark it is not unusual to see a badger or a fox cross the road.
Sadly though we do see a lot of hedgehogs dead by the roadside.
I do not live out in the wilds either but a small town with a bit of country side around us.
What animals cross the path while you are out?

Fortunately I didn't meet any wild animal while driving, but I did meet a lot of them while hiking. I love hiking and when I go to less traveled places, I may see wild animals.
I met chamois, hedgehogs, deer, rabbits, foxes, snakes, but the most horrifying experience was the encounter with a bear. I was on a hike on Cozia Mountain and I walked in front of my friends. I heard some noises in the bushes in front of me and I went to see what animal can move the bushes that way. I was hoping there was a deer or a chamois, but... surprise! It was a bear. Fortunately it wasn't a female bear; it was only a young bear. He was as surprised as I was, so he started to run through the trees down the valley. When my friends got to that spot, they could only see him far away in the valley.

I bet you never had a camera with you either. Mind you I have seen animals and so in awe of them that I just stare at them and then later remember that I had a camera with me and could have taken a photo of them

Of course I had a camera with me. I allways carry the camera with me when I go hiking. But who thought about it when I saw the wild animals? Even if I would have thought about it, the animals would have run away until I had taken the camera out of my backpack.

Well, there have been many rabbits and hedgehogs, sometimes foxes, but I haven't met a deer on the road.

Your discussion remind me one of mine terrible incident.. We faced road accident with a camel when camel was crossing the road in night.. Fortunately we all got saved including camel .. But my car did get lots of damage..
Generally i face dogs, fox and cows during driving car on highway.

Snakes, we hike last weekend and I saw a gopher snake and a rattle snake. Luckily I see the rattle snake because my husband would have been stepping on it if I had not warn him. I often see squirrels when I walk to the bus station. They look like a rat to me. I also see a deer when we drove in highway 1. I am worried for them because they will spring in front of your car. If you drive fast they will have a little chance of escaping the car. I hope the local government unit will do something about that. Especially on a mountain pass, though they have the "deer crossing warning", I think many animals are still hit every day.

it is sad that so many animals get hit every day even with warnings. We had a pet snake once and lived nextdoor to another but I have never seen one when out walking

Hey MAllen400, I am from Dayton OHio. United States. And were i am from It is a small town full of traffic and busy one way streets. There is a lot of people, and tall buildings close to eachother. Well anyways, One morning i woke up to get ready for school. It was snowing outside I looked out the window and saw some deer and do standing in my front yeard! This may not seem like a big deal, but for deer to make it to my front yard would have to be a very hard task for a deer. I also see rabbits and squirrels a lot. I see possums and badgers who infest the sewers and come up to the streets at night getting into peoples garbage and looking for food. Sometimes I see terrepines and turtles too.

On a rainy day, when the world was smaller, some local catfish or sometimes it was a mudfish, would cross the road to San Jose. My father would sometimes put them in a pail and carry them home. It was locally called "Turubay", we would grill it but it never became a favorite as we liked milkfish better.
When traveling one can see cows crossing the road, goats too. Since they go slow, you don't have much choice 'til they're on the other side.
We don't have much of the small, wild animals. There is of course the occasional snake going across a hot road, and that's about it.
