You come home after having an exhausting shopping experience at the crowded mall that is about 10 miles from your house. You finally get home after being stuck in traffic and you browse your receipt and noticed that you've been charged twice for an item you only bought one quantity of. What would you do in this situation? Do you always check your receipts... even buying tons of grocery? How can we prevent this from happening?

It is best advice that we should check our receipt before leaving the store but for that bulk groceries that you shop it's hard to check it one by one. If this happens to you, you should go back to the store or mall then have present your receipt to the costumer service. It happens when I was a trainee as a cashier, I didn't just double punch the price, I charge the buyer 6x of the price of detergent powder. Since I am a trainee, I didn't know that the price of the powder is fixed, I though it was per piece so when I punch the code, I hit times 6. The other day the buyer did return and talk to the supervisory of the check-out area. The supervisor told me what happened but didn't scold me cause the bagger should check the quantity of the item before giving it to the client. The bagger is not trainee anymore and the supervisor said that they will charge the discrepancy to him, well that is the rule of that grocery store.

Yes, I've worked as a cashier too and there are times when we slip, especially at the beginning. The thing I always made sure to do, especially when I am using the 'x' button was to make sure with the customer that the quality is 6 items or whatever. If they can hear you even counting, that is good too. In some countries, they say everything they scan, ex: One lip gloss, 3 cabbages, etc. It's probably a hassle but I'm sure it will prevent a lot of slips.

It is really a hassle but some cashier do that in bookstore and groceries. They do confirm the no. of items you bought for particular item.

Oh that's too bad! I haven't experienced the same so far but I already experienced being charged twice in my credit card bill. I called the credit card company's hotline and complained about the error in the bill. It was acted upon appropriately. Hence, if the same would happen to me after buying some groceries or after having some shopping spree, I would still go back and have the error corrected. Indeed, it pays to check our receipts before leaving the counter. Although it is very tedious when you are in the grocery store and you bought a lot of stuff, what I usually do is I watched as the items are "punched" and totaled that way I'm sure everything I bought were properly computed and accounted for. We can prevent over charging by being vigilant and focused especially when you are already in the counter and the items you purchased are being computed. I hope your dilemma is already solved. I hope it won't happen to any of us as it is really a big hassle and very inconvenient especially for those who lived miles away from the malls or groceries. Have a good day and happy myLotting! :D

I find checking the item while 'punched' is very beneficial and smart too. Only when you buy a lot of things, especially groceries and the cashier is super fast, sometimes we can miss the mistakes. The dilemmas has been solved over here now, thanks!
