I personally think that Intel is better than AMD. Intel has the fastest processor up to 4 GHz than any other makers. But, AMD is not to bad when you judge it in performance. Better performance, but slower than Intel.
My desktop uses intel, but my laptop uses AMD.
what do you prefer, then??

if your buying a new pc and not just a cpu remember that the speed of the front side bus is equally as important as the speed of the cpu, if not more so.

yes the hard disk effects speed but most disks you buy now are decent enough, the bus speed in newer computers if very important man and getting even more so with the better models that are coming out and make sure what ever ram you get matches your bus speed, you cud get a 1gb stick of ram that only operates on a bus of 866 which wudnt be good or you cud get a 1gb stick of ram which operates at 1333mhz which is good or even better is a 1gb at 1666mhz, but the better the ram the more expensive as im sure you are aware. the main thing you want is a good motherboards with a good bus speed, everything else comes second, then down the road if you find you have some extra cash you can buy the newest processors and the newest ram without worrying if your motherboard is good enough to take them or not.
You should look into building your own pc by buying top of the range parts second hand and putting it together yourself, youll save a small fortune and make an amazing machine that would otherwise be out of your price range.
If youve never built a machine before just familiarize yourself with the inside of your current machine and youll be able to do it, its very simple, just make sure the parts you buy are compatible, if your not sure just look online and youll find out easily enough.
Hope thats giving you a few ideas mate, best of luck.

ah, I never think about that. the buses never come across my mind when buying PC or laptop. the main things are the processor, memory, and RAM that determine the speed. Do you think that the harddisk affect the speed??

intel was so popular to us because intel was so many probduct but still i prefer the AMD because i know that the amd processor are better than the intel. but i think it is depend to the user.

Here's a guide to CPUs for 2011 I thought it was pretty interesting:
http://www.squidoo.com/cpuprocessors
It will be difficult to decide whether you should go for a Sandy Bridge CPU now or wait for the Bulldozer release late in quarter 2 of this year.

well, there are lots more to consider than just the processor. You should think about the RAM, memory, graphic card, etc. All of them could determine the speed of your laptop or PC.

AMD. Intel gives you fast processors, but they are very costly. Currently AMD don't have anything to compete with intel i7 980x in terms of speed. But AMD gives you value for money. I myself uses an AMD phenom II x4 945 processor and is satisfied with its perfomance/$. :)

I agree. Intel is much more expensive than AMD, although personally I like Intel better. Its fast processor really gives me a nice gameplay. I'm also satisfied with my notebook. eventhough it's not for gaming, it's quite useful for my work

I am absolutlly for Intel. I have had AMD in the past and I have nothing but problems with this processor. It is slower than Intel, also is not stable. When I was use AMD processor my computer was switch of often, because of over heating. Maybe Intel is expensive, but for that quality is worth this price. So I will buy only Intel, AMD is not for me.

Maybe in the past, AMD was worse than Intel. But nowadays, AMD is almost the same as Intel. Maybe not from speed, but from the performance. Overheating isn't caused by the processor itself, but from the heat sink. I think your heat system isn't okay.

But, do you agree that intel is much faster than AMD?? Intel has processors that have until 6 GHz and with that kind of speed, high-graphic gamings are no longer a thread.

Am using an AMD Athelon processor and am perfectly happy about . Both Intel and Amd are two of the finest processor manufacturing companies . Both have equal number of supporters and eventually both have their own pros and cons . Intel's processors are faster than any other company , but their cost is also more , sometimes very much more than AMD. On the other hand AMD's processor's don lie far behind in terms of speed . They are as competitive as Intel's and yet they cost a whole lot LESS!! According to me Intel is a little better for performance and Amd for graphics and games.

For my desktop computer, I'm using Intel processors. I haven't tried using AMD processor. I heard that for gaming, AMD works best but the concern also is the temperature. So far from what I observed with my Intel processor, its fast and not giving me any problems yet.

amd is cheap and value for money ! intel is good and has compatibility with *ALL* games and softwareeeee! thus if youre just a casual gamer on a tight budget AMD is the way !
