I think music is a unifying experience that is characteristic of all humans. Really, who doesn't like music? Only the Taliban or Al Qaeda that's who. Just look at how terrible their lives are because of it. They want to crush out the good things in life, such as music. Can you believe they want to kill you if you listen to music? That's just simply crazy. Instead of bullets, maybe we should fight them with songs and maybe they would like it and change. Music has a healing property to it, so maybe it would work.

Yes that is an excellent idea! If only we could fight their bullets with songs would make for a happy ending to war. Music can, in fact, has and does inspire peace. It just takes the right song with right message played at the right time to the right audience. Peace of cake right? Still music can have a profound effect and sway people's thinking one way or the other.

Hi Rollon,
You are absolutely right instead of fighting them with the bullets let us love them with our music, you have pointed out rightly that they are very susceptible to our way of life/music,which is why they have restricted all the foreign music channel.
While they are restricting it to the general masses but, they themselves do in the underground/bunker etc,not only these people are crazy but unrelenting to the practical life of others religion/culture/life etc.
Happy mylotting, and One day they will accept it,is the best one.

Yes maybe one day they will hear the music and listen instead of go crazy and thinking it is against God somehow. Hopefully if peace comes to the region they will have an opportunity to reopen schools and educate their masses that there is more to life than being in a militant group. I think with education, music and other cultural influences could reshape the country for the better; but it is going to take time of course.

These people hate and kill and destroy for the heck of it. They have outlandish standards that are destructive and hateful and they have no idea about love. I know a lot of so called Westerners are also devoid of goodness but those guys really take the cake. A frontal lobotomy is what they need.

A lot of people in that part of the world experienced a lot of awful things growing up because of the war always going on. These hardships may have made them very depressed and afraid of the world causing them to try to close themselves off from the rest of the things in the world like music. I think a lack of war may be just as healing as music. Perhaps if future generations didn't have to experience the consequences of war, they won't be so angry and depressed and do such crazy things.

Crazy is right. Heard they threatened to blow up the commuter buses in Pakistan if the bus company didn't take out the speakers and also televisions out of them. What a bunch of dummies! Why do they think it is a worse sin to listen to music than to blow up a bunch of innocent people that need to take the bus to get around? They are obviously delusional.

I didn't know they had that harsh rule. What a scary situation for music lovers; and what a miserable way to live for those who banned listening to music. Now I realized I'm thankful that my country does not impose such an unreasonable rule. I totally agree with you that music has the power to heal. I heard of some stories and studies saying that playing soothing music to cancer patients generally improves not only bodily conditions, but their emotional well being as well. Music transmits a breadth of emotions, so our bodies and soul respond to it.

Yes these guys are literally nuts. Why they get so worked up about such things is beyond me. Not only are they totally against modern music, but they also do not like the arts of most kinds. Only flowing words tied together to make pictures of geometrical shapes are allowed. Unlike the modern day Bible, which can have pictures of various biblical scenes, The Taliban and Al Qaeda are strictly against any sort of that artwork. That's fine if they don't want to believe it is right to listen to music or look at art. But trying to force those beliefs on others and also kill people for it makes no sense. They want us all to live like it was 500 years ago but in the end what will happen? Progress always goes forward. These guys are fighting and killing now, but I bet their kids grow up less likely to be such isolationist because technology will spread through their country and change it forever.

It is funny how there are songs that we listen to only during certain moods. Music is very much a window into someone's soul. It is a way to know about them that maybe words can't explain. If you want to get to know someone, check out their music collection and tastes.

I do not think it would work with those evil men and the only music they would like would be Mid Eastern music anyway and that sure did not turn them from wanting to kill all Westerners. So it is not that they are against music, they are against Western music and would want us all to listen to Mid Eastern music. Someone has to change their hearts and that has to be God.

I can't imagine life without music! Even in the Bible it endorses music as a holy thing. In fact, I think most religions venerate music as a great healer and a spiritual wellspring.
The organizations you mention are all about total control of the mind, body and spirit. Music expands the spirit and brings joy, it's no wonder they ban it.

Hi Rallon:
That would be fine if our guitars and drums would punch holes in their lines. Just kidding. Maybe you have a point here.
Music is said to be language of the soul. I believe these people have souls too, its just a matter of learning that language. It is a universal language where anybody can relate and respond. It is just sad that some music today promote war instead of peace.
Well, as have always been said, this is a free world an anybody has a right to self-expression. Lest just go on making music as the medium of peace and goodwill.
Bang a drum, anybody?

I believe music has the power to do that. Classic has proven to increase baby's intelligence. Well, it's absolutely crazy if someone kills just because taht person is listening to music. It's our right to listen to whatever music we like.

It is really sad when you mentioned about the Taliban.
If Taliban could appreciate of music very much, there wasn't any 911, they won't flattened the faces of the historical and the world's tallest statues of Buddha in Afganistan, they won't burst the whole statues of the Buddha by canons, they won't be punished by the God and so on.
Consequently, Taliban collapsed.
What is the main cause to Taliban? They couldn't understand music.
