Do u feel frustrated or angry when your prayers aren't being answered? Or do patiently keep trusting in God that it would be answered sooner or later? Do u think God is approachable through prayers? How do u explain the below verses?
“This is the confidence that we have toward him, that, no matter what it is that we ask according to his will, he hears us.” (1 John 5:14).
“You do ask, and yet you do not receive, because you are asking for a wrong purpose, that you may expend it upon your cravings for sensual pleasure.”—James 4:3.

I do believe on that verses. Sometimes not all we prayed for, God will grant it. HE has a reasons why he didn't gave to us immediately what we asked for because I believe GOD has a better plan for us. We should be thankful for on what we he can and what he can't give. Just have faith in me. Maybe not now, in HIS time!

God will always answer sincere, humble and honest prayers. There is no need to doubt. He knows what we need even before we ask Him. We need to trust Him. He knows what is best for us and what will be in our best interests not just for a short while but for eternity. If we put ourselves in His hands, He will always take care of us. Happiness doesn't come from what we have or don't have but from a close, warm, personal relationship with Him. We all can have that if we want!

Gosh... you are really bold to question god about not answering your prayers. Perhaps your prayers have been answered? Personally, I do wish God will answer my prayers but I do not put my full and absolute hope in it. God will be so busy answering one's prayers and so maybe I am already in the queue waiting for my prayers to be answered.

Well, actually, I used to feel that way, way before I started to know God, so just put down those thoughts, and yes, several of my prayers have been answered and several still aren't, but I just keep trusting in him.

Maybe, just maybe, God doesn't answer us, because he's not there.

Well, it might be dismissed in such a way, but to think of all those prayers answered, what could be the reason?

Sometimes it takes more than all those things you've mentioned above. What do we need when we go through trials? God's strengh, to stay strong. What do we need when we have everything, but lack peace of mind? God's blessings. What do we need when we are in the middle of a crisis and donno which way to go? God's divine guidance. All these dont come by chance or effort or luck, but by drawing close to him , who created us. In short, life without our creator, our heavenly father is like a ship sailing on a voilent sea, without a compass.

The same reason that the prayers wouldn't be answered. It all comes down to luck, chance, situations, skills, all of these pieces that are a part of our lives, and sometimes things work out, and sometimes they don't. There's no real need to put a god onto those situations.

Well, that is the words of God, and I don't oppose into it. That verse is right. Because many people are pray because they want to win lotto or win for political career or a points that pray when the danger is there...
There are many case which is that verse quotation is true. Some people also when they pray they want it at once. But they never do anything to be materialize that pray...
It's really hard to explain that verse. But in any case I know the verse is true...

I am just a firm believer that the answers we receive are usually what we NEED and not what we WANT. When the answers are meant to sustain us and not to satisfy us it makes it hard to see that we have receive an answer at all. This is because we are looking for a fleshly desire to be fulfilled but GOD "seems" to take a more guiding, parental approach in my opinion. People only acknowledge that they have received an answer or a solution when it satisfies their direct needs. It's hard for us to see beyond a our selfish ways of wanting what WE want when WE want it exactly the way we want it. Too bad for us life doesn't usually work out that way.

Yes! As imperfect humans, we can only see what we want in life now, how to make it simply better, But as a loving Father, God can see what is better for us for a lifetime! Than[x 4 the thought. Have a nice dayem]happy[/em].

G*d doesn't "answer" prayers; prayers get us listening for what G*d sent, which is waiting for us to pick up!

Hi keep_watch, I think that the mistake that most people make is in thinking that they are separate from God, that God is a being outside of themselves. God is within us as Jesus tried to explain to all who would listen. Life itself is a prayer and when we live as Christ taught, treating others as we ourselves want to be treated, life will be good. Blessings.

Thanks for sharing these wonderful bible quotes. Yes, sometimes, I feel frustrated and irritated when my prayers will not answered especially if I know I needed those things badly. But then I understand that God doesn't punish people, that He knows what's best for us and if He didn't answer some of my prayers maybe it is not meant for me or God thinks it is not best for me, so I just sigh and thank God for my life and my safe existence.

You are welcome jlamela (3725). Yeah! exactly! God knows what is best for us, and we as humans do not see what can really be best for our life and situation. But we can never doubt that with our creator, rich in wisdom, which no human can match. Thanx 4 ur response. Have a nice day

Tricky question. Although I believe in a god... I don't believe in the bible. Not as a guidebook for daily living. I believe we all have the answers within us. god made everything, but he expects us to live our own lies. And even if he had some sort of master plan how is he supposed to get around to it with everyone interrupting him with their prayers all the time? And what if one of those prayers goes against his master plan? Then what? I think the concept of god has gotten a little out of hand and it's time people start taking care of their own lives rather than expecting an unseen force to figure it all out for them.

Yes, your point is valid, we have to take crae of ourselves, as it is, most of us do. But there are only a few things we actually can do. Like work for our living, cleanliness for our health and so on. But we cannot really be having a meaning for our life if we do not depend on our creator. For example, we need strength to cope through difficult circumstances, we need guidance in our decisions, which without God's care could go all wrong. We need to live by his laws and principles so WE may have a better life.

Yes I do get impatient when I don't get the answer I expect in the manner I expect to the result I expect..And its kinda scary and quite embarrassing to realize that this 58 year old fella carries on like a 2 year old at times, demanding what I want as tho it were something I really needed.
As to the 2 verses, the first obviously says He hears us and the 2nd warns against selfish requests..
ENJOY!

the first verse for me with the guidance of GOD..
God answers our prayers when it is of his..you can ask whatever you want but still the approval is his part on that prayer..If he sees that you deserve a thing then he may say YES or WAIT...but if he sees whenever he gives you such thing then see your future-like there's a bad effect on your relationship with him then he won't really grant your prayer..
on the second verse I think GOD sees whats gonna happen before us upon receiving that particular thing we ask..
in our life there's sometimes and it do happen that we focus our attention to a certain thing that we ALready forget him or to seek him and love him first more than anything in this world...
have a nice day and GOD BLESS!^_^

The way you understood is so true. Its vital that God approves our prayers before granting him, and also we need to ask him keeping him guidance and rules in our mind, like we cannot really ask God-" please god, make that person suffer, because he made me suffer." I'm sure he wont even consider such prayers. Thanx 4 ur response.

Maybe the problem lies in what we are asking for? Are we asking for material things?
I don't agree with people asking for material things, praying to God for things with little importance.
My opinion in prayer is this, we should praise God first for we are His creation. Thank Him for everything, even for the things that we think are negative. Then ask Him to guide us to become a better human being and guide us to what he wants us to be.
Material things should not be prayed for. God is the provider, there is no need to ask for it.

Reminds me of another beautiful verse recorded in Matthew 6:25-32 saying-" “Stop being anxious about your souls as to what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your bodies as to what you will wear. . . . Observe intently the birds of heaven, because they do not sow seed or reap or gather into storehouses; still your heavenly Father feeds them. . . . For your heavenly Father knows you need all these things.”

Hi, keep_onwatch You have a good question there, and the Bible answers it clearly. We can only ask for something that is according to God´s will. Sometimes we have to wait and see if the prayer we sent is approved by God.
He knows what is best for us and he will answer according to His will. He loves us very much so we can trust that our prayers will be heard.
Sometimes the answer can come very fast, even in a few seconds..

Yes, God's view point is always right, and may be as humans, we might fail to see it, fail to understand, but eventually our loving father will the best for us if we leave our lives in his hands. Thanx 4 ur response.

In plain language, the first verse means that God reserves the right to ignore us after he has heard our prayer.
The second verse means prayer requests for "wrong purpose", (Things that are greedy, lustful, selfish, hurtful, prideful, mean, etc.) will be denied.

From what I can understand, the verses basically ask you to think before you ask God for things, and the reason why you're asking Him for those stuff.

He did answered you already, you were not just ready to listen because you were too busy talking. People complain a lot and i am one. I do pray and some are not answered for the purpose God only knows.
But I did learn to wait and be patient because there is nothing I can do without His approval. It is true that before you ask God, He already knows it, so meaning I better just be patient even if it is hard to wait, but obedience is a must.

Yeah! Patience is the key. We have to gain his approval and be sure that what we ask isn't violating his Holy laws, so as to be heard by him.

Is it God's job to solve all our problems??? Hardly. We gain wisdom in solving our problems. Some of the problems God sends us. If it doesn't change anyone's lessons, God will give it to you. Let's see what you can do first instead of running to God with every stubbed toe. Does God hear every word you pray??? You bet!! God hears every thought as well. Let me tell you a story about when I was younger. I was walking through the park one day. I came across the biggest, fattest woman you could ever imagine resting on her back on a park bench. As I looked at her, I said to myself. God, who would ever take her out on a date???? Well, a couple of months went by. I started getting phone calls late at night. The young lady had a really sweet sexy voice with a great personality. Before you knew it I was asking her out on a date. I was really excited. This girl seemed to be so nice. When I drove up to her house to pick her up, I got the surprise of a lifetime. My date was the lady from the park. Let's go back and remember what happened. I asked God.who would ever take her out on a date? God's reply: YOU, MY SON!! I learned quickly be careful what you ask God. He is listening and you might get your answer. All in all, I learned alot about judging people on the surface. We are all children of God. We are all very special. I might never have learned this if not for my wonderful new friend. God probably enjoyed teaching this lesson as well.

Lol! Yeah, I agree, God does listen to everything we say to him, after all we depend on him. Yeah we do learn new lessons everyday in our life, which brings us that much closer to God. This incident is a really thought provoking one. Thanx 4 ur response bird123 (2202, Have a great day!
