I just bought a pair of pants and a polo shirt. But I don't think I have to wast the pants. I used them without getting them washed first. I guess I was excited to use it that I didn't wash it first.
Do you wash your newly bought clothes before using them?

Well, if i was very anal about it, i would have, because if it isn't a new piece and it's a shop where you buy the clothes off the racks and doesn't keep new stocks which are still in their packages, then that would be a little gross. I mean, you just don't know what kind of people have tried those pants on before right? But of course, to make your life worry-free, and to just enjoy using that pants you just bought, i guess it's okay not to wash them. Well, i don't! Haha, that's because i have no time and i am just too lazy to wash a pair of pants which i have fooled myself to believe is completely new, right out of the package. It's easier that way. ;)

Eww I would never want to wear clothes that were used without washing them. Its gross enough to have to try on used clothing to see if it fits let alone wear it around all day. On another discussion I saw people were saying how people try on clothes to see if they fit and when they dont they put them back on the rack. If people are sweaty the clothes pick up their body sweat. So that is really gross to think about and might encourage people to wash their clothes after buying them even if they are brand new with tags.

I have friends who wear their newly bought underwear. It is when they have to sleep at their office overnight and they did not bring any inner wear with them. For sure those under wears are really clean since it is not allowed to bring them in the fitting room.

To be truthful if they are new with tags from the store then no I do not wash before wearing. But if they are from a second hand thrift store or are given to me, then Yes, I do wash them first. My brothers fiance freaked me out once a few years ago. We just got done school shopping for the kids and instead of hanging the new clothes up in the closet she goes and tosses everything straight into the clothes hamper to be washed first. I never seen no one do that before except with baby clothes. She says she does it because of the starches and dyes in the clothes can cause the kids to be itchy when the clothes aren't washed first. But I bet a lot of people wash their kids clothing first or their own.

I sometimes do that.
When I bought some new shirts, I had them put into the laundry the moment I arrived home. I think a friend of mine once told me to do that and made some pretty good points on why I should but, I don't really get to do that often, perhaps its due to the fact that I can't buy new clothes as often as I would want to.
Recently, I bought a jacket and it crossed my mind to have it washed first before actually using it but, two days after purchasing the said item, I needed a jacket. I decided to use it in the end without really having it washed.

I always wash the new clothes after I bought them. Although they look clean, but actually they contain virus during the production process. I like to wear clean clothes. Besides, I can check whether the clothes have good quality or not after washing. If it has a bad quality, I may go to get my refund.

For hygenic, sanitation, and health purposes, it would be advisable to wash new clothes before wearing them. New clothes, especially t-shirts have a certain smell -- I think it's from the chemicals used in printing the design of the shirt. That chemical smells irritating to the nose at times. Also, the raw materials of clothes have been exposed to dust, dirt, and other chemicals in the factory. These particles may cause irritation to the skin, especially those that come in contact to our sensitive areas like pants, shorts, underwear. With these, I think it would be safe to wash it than be sorry later on.

Yes, I do wash my new clothes and also new fabric I buy as well. There are things in the dyes and the fabric sizing that is not necessarily good for your skin.

BOth? I think its a yes and no, if I'm really excited to wear my new clothes then I don't wash them but when my mother sees me she'll tell me to wash them first. So that's it, if my mom is around I always wash them.

It depends on how long they have been in the store and of course, whether they are washable. If the clothes look as if they will not shrink or lose color, then I might wash them but it depends.

I was also told putting salt in the water would prevent the dye from running, but they never tell you how much. I can see putting a couple of tablespoons but not the whole package. And sometimes they forget to put on the label dry clean only. I could try ironing but have no idea whether they said it because they think all clothes need to be ironed or because it really keeps the fabric from running.

Somebody said pressing the clothes before washing them extends the life of its color.

You are actually supposed to wash them first before wearing them because of the harmful effects of dyes and things they put on the clothes in the process of making them. I dont like to wash mine first. I love to feel the clothes while they are new and stiff and fit just perfect. After washing them they might not fit quite as well as that very first time. I love the smell of new clothes as well.

Me too. I like the smell of new clothes most of the time. You're right on the thing that the fit may be different already if we get them washed. Some shrink after getting them from the laundry shop.

I think I understand the situation of picjim during festivals.
@charinette: That's good. Maybe it is always better to assume that the cloth is not clean everytime we buy it. We are not really sure that it is free from microbes or viruses since other people may have tried them in the fitting room already.

I am too excited to wash the new clothes I bought, I just hang them in my closet and wear soon, however, for the clothes that I think needs washing, I wash them first before wearing.

sometime we need to wash it before wear them,,,because mostly that been too long in the shop and we need to ensure it's cleaness before and maybe we need to wash it again

I agree. Some clothes may have been at the shop for months or even for years already. Dirts and dust may have accumulated on the clothe already and sometimes we cannot see them with our bare eyes. Who knows if viruses and microbes are in the already.

Yes,of course! I do wash any of my new clothes before I wear them.
I usually will wash my new clothes with salt water and washing powder together.
Because the new clothes might have the carcinogenicity of chemicals- formaldehyde might still left on new clothes for wrinkle-free treatment, sometimes the new clothes was smelly, that is this chemical, it is used to process cotton wrinkle flaws.
According to the research showed that the addition of formaldehyde can cause acute eye symptoms, cough, rashes and other visual impairment, whatever we should wash the new clothes before we wear for safety.

Yep, new clothes doesn't smell good sometimes. I guess because of the chemicals and the printing materials they used to manufacture it.

Yes. You should always wash your clothes before using them. I saw a documentary several years back that featured a couple that worked in a textile company that got skin disease because of being exposed to newly treated cloths. You may also iron your new clothes before washing them to protect its color so it will not fade too much during the wash and to reduce shrinkage of your clothes.
