Do you like Queso de Bola?

It has always been a Filipino tradition to have a Quezo de Bola (A huge chunk of cheese shaped like a ball) at the dining table during Christmas/New Years eve dinner. But do you guys like it? I personally find it too salty... dont get me wrong though, it's not totally unpleasant, but if I had to choose, I'd rather have the usual cheddar cheese because it's creamier. I also found that a few months later, we still have so many leftover Quezo de Bola in the ref... hehehehe. If you were to choose, would you rather have Quezo de Bola or the usual cheddar cheese? :)

Over the years I have been wondering why Queso De Bola is always included in the christmas basket when in fact no one seems to be interested in eating it. My kids who love cheese won't even touch it. It's only those "tambays" who don't have "putulan" who often take it. Maybe for the first time ever, i would suggest that queso de bola be excluded in our christmas basket this year.

I would defenitely keep the ham and then replace the queso de bola with something else. The only thing that makes it part of the christmas package is it's packaging, the big red wax covering. Maybe if they could wrap hams in the same way then people will not have a hard time not seeing queso de bola anymore.

I guess you're right dude. ...and I believe having something circular in the dining table is also considered "lucky". If that's the case, I say just fill the table up with fruits. :)

hahaha! It makes you wonder huh? :p hmmmm. Come to think of it, most of the stuff seen on our Christmas table have become part of tradition: Hamon, Quezo de bola, etc. Makes me wonder if we just do that to keep the tradition, or if we really enjoy these stuff?

That's very true! :) And did you notice that as the cheese gets old it get's really really hard? hahahaha! Sometimes it becomes too hard to even chew. :p

Indeed. Probably because of tradition and the nostalgia factor. :) Hmmmmm... they should make a Quezo de Bola made of cheddar cheese! It'll still look the same but at the same time taste better! haha :)

I am a cheesy person. I mean, I love cheese! And queso de bola had been a family favorite since I was a child. So the taste suits the palate and we do serve Marca Pinya queso de bola on Christmas Eve.

Oh yeah, I've heard great things about the Marca Pinya brand of queso de bola. Maybe I should tty that sometime. :)

I love Quezo de Bola, actually I like all kind of cheese. Cheese has been my favorite ever since my mother taught me how to eat solid food. I just have this liking for cheese that I don't really mind what kind of cheese it is. In fact I'm very interested in tasting all kinds of cheese!

hehehe good to hear that. :) I love cheese as well... I particularly love it as melted... on top of a juicy chunk of buger patty! yum! :)

I don't like Queso de Bola that much. I prefer the cheddar cheese that you can buy on the supermarket. Also the one that quickly melts when you put on the microwave oven. But every Christmas, you'll always see Queso de Bola on the dinner table. It's already part of the tradition.

We never really displayed the Quezo de Bola on the dining table. It's always inside the refrigerator, even during Christmas and New Year. And like you, we never really get to finish it. My mom would just throw it away because, even though she keeps saying it won't turn bad because it's always in the ref, we're kind of afraid that it has because it's around for months.

haha very true. They say that the Quezo de Bola is immortal! :p But the longer it stays in the ref (especially if it's been sliced already) the harder it gets... to the point that it's almost not edible. :p

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you guys :-) I like Quezo de Bola. Indeed, the flavor is stronger than the regular cheddar cheese. I must admit, I didn't like it when I was a kid, but as I grew older, I think I've acquired a likeness for the taste. Quezo de Bola is also good mixing in with pasta dishes. It's a good combination for seafood pasta. Quezo de Bola is quite expensive, so it's good that someone regular gives this to us as a gift :-) well, you can throw it my way, and I'll gladly accept it hahaha!

hahaha. I'll email you our Quezo de Bola then. :p You know what, you're probably right... Quezo de Bola would really work well with pasta dishes... it almost has the same taste as parmesan cheese now that I think about it. :)
..and yes we usually just get Quezo de Bola as gifts too :p
