i loved my remote controlled cars and my handheld video game. We were returning from a temple and i spotted a remote controlled car when i was 11 years old, i asked my mother to buy that for me, she bough it and i was playing with it after returning home in the night. I loved it very much, wherever i go, i would take it with me..

Dear friend, Usually I had a small ball which I used to play mostly football, cricket or any other games. Not much toys as to quote as favorite. My favorite is only one single ball. No dolls, no kitchen sets etc. But most of time I like spending time reading comics and other books.

Hi Chaitra, You must aware about me as I am born and brought up in a village, where my family was a joint family and my grandfather done all the dealings at home. Ladies, (my mother, grandmother, and aunty) never went outside for any shopping at that time. The only opportunity they got for shopping is the festival in temple where many hawkers are coming to sell their products. They brought dolls and toys for us from those places which were made by plastic and I hardly find that kind of toys now. To be very honest I didn’t enjoy that kind of toys. I and my friends made toys by our own with the available materials at home land. Elders helped us a lot to make some toys. Making food items was one of the favourite games in our childhood. The empty shell of the coconut (which is thrown out from the kitchen) used as utensils for making great dishes (lol). Now my kids are playing with different types of toys with advanced technology. But I felt my childhood was sweeter than them. The freedom we got there, the playground we used like, is not available for my kids. After school time we went to collect the cashew nuts,( the sweetness of cashew nut fruit is still my tongue) mango fruits, guava etc. Yes my childhood was a memorable one though there was no great toys for us to play.

No need to feel sorry and I think there was some great toys for you to play with your friends and I hope you really enjoyed the same. Just think about good side Shibham you must have something, something very sweet memories to share. The number of toys or the costly toys is not the great part in childhood. At present kids need the same just because they hardly find any place to play, many are living in flats and there is not enough space to play or enjoy. You had that freedom, you had paddy fields for playing, you could pluck the fruits from your own plants, you had many friends in your neighbourhood to play and enjoy. Can you deny it dear Shibham?

For me what comes to mind is a bow and arrow set my Dad carved out of willow. It didn't have a lot of power...but then again that is a good thing. I got pretty good with it. The arrows were tipped with old 30.06 shells fitted over the shaft so as to make them blunt. They packed a pretty good whollup though, .. enough to stick in some foam. I guess that was sort of back in the day when homemade toys were still the thing...or am I dating myself...

Yes indeed...fond memories. I have never tried to make a bow like my dad did.... I think I will have to see if I can find some willow and give it a try. Thank you for the good memories as well

Hi Chaitra! I think most of us had played with dolls and kitchen toys. I used to love playing with Barbies. My aunt had gifted me one complete Barbie set and I was just crazy about it! I had preserved it for a long time.

Hi chaitra001! Ah I love my childhood days although some are not that pleasant. During the mid-80's to early 90's, we usually play (me and my siblings) with our neighbors. All kids in the neighborhood gather after coming from school outside in the streets to play street football, hide and seek, and other street games as what we call it. Every kid was active back then unlike these days when kids just stay at home and play on their games console. But mind you, I did play with toys when I was a kid. I use to have plenty of dolls and plastic kitchen sets and those medical sets where you have a stethoscope and a nurse cap. It was fun. I also loved stuffed toys which I cuddle every night. I also loved Barbie dolls and I even asked my mom to buy me a pair of Barbie doll rubber shoes when I was in 4th grade. :)
