Hey J,
Thanks, for talking shop! :O)
Sure, I can write ten pages in an hour. No problem.
However, I've gotten to a point where the exercise is meaningless. It's not even the matter of quantity vs quality. It's much more a matter of "What's in it for me?"
For example, I came up with an idea--about a year ago--for a screenplay. Screenplays have NOT been good to me, at all. However, they're THE form of the moment. And, I see the occasional movie, and that adds up, fast. So, the form calls out to me. So, I started thinking about satire--which is NOT a great place to make money (or friends! Hahaha!).
Still, it occurred to me that disgust was the emotion that could drive a really powerful satirical movie. If you're gonna go down this path, find something that truly disgusts you about society & attack it with absolute venom. This is sooo not the way I usually write, so the challenge started calling out to me.
I wrote the story (the list of turns in event). It was good, but it didn't do anything for MY soul. I don't write to save others. I write to make money and cultivate my inner life. Before I was ready to sacrifice a year of my life, I wanted to figure out: What's in it for ME?
I couldn't answer that question, so I left the story (on index cards) alone. Well, just recently, it occurred to me that the perfect characters to carry the story would be some I created several years ago as members of a make-believe rock group. As soon as I put them into the story, I could feel it come to life! Also, this would allow me to use some songs I've been aching to do something with! (Maybe, in the end, I wouldn't use them. But, just having them in the process would give ME a reason to write the script.)
See, now, I've got a reason two write a dozen drafts of a 95 page script that might never get produced! :P
Do you wanna write ten pages without breaking a sweat? Pull five books off the shelf--preferably ones you have no intention of reading. Preferably on subjects you have no interest in. Then, open the books here and there. Pull out a piece of a sentence--the less clearly meaningful, the better. Write it and make it a complete sentence through your own cleverness. Switch books often.
What's good about that kind of thing is that it forces your mind to flip in unexpected ways. I do exercises like this, just to keep my mind limber. But it's not rocket science.
Sunshine & Blessings,
Giovani

Can I type ten pages in an hour? Only if I'm very inspired.. Inspiration under wings so to speak.. or if I'm very interested in the topic.. (and have enough to say about it!)

Yup, I love to write, and I think I have written that much before, most likely for Nanowrimo last year. Will you be joining it?

I can only do that during the examination.
Quite funny to see students writing non-stop when they are facing examinations. However, once out of the examination hall, they cannot seem to write anything. If writing comes naturally, that person can use the skill to make money.

I am sure I could. My husband is away right now so we communicate through letters. I can write about 5 pages in twenty to thirty minutes. If it is a research paper or on something I do not know much about, that's different...It would take me a lot longer! However, if I'm writing a letter, or an opinion piece, I can do that in a very short amount of time.

It depends on what I'm writing. When I'm writing a research paper about a topic that I'm not interested in, then no. Can't do it. However, when I'm working on one of my fiction novels then yeah. In a heartbeat. I did NaNoWriMo (The one month novel race... write a 50,000 word novel in one month), and I actually thought it was pretty easy. When I really get going, then I can write loads in a very short amount of time.
