There is a custom here in India that dowry is given away during marriages. There are a large number of women in this country who are still single because their parents are not able to give dowry. Moreover, it is in India that more dowry related deaths are reported.

I think it's frowned upon if something like that is worked out, but that's only a guess.

I heard of this news, even thu the government already implemented the no-to-dowry arrangement.
But still the culture and tradition goes on and not to make it obvious they called it as "gifts" (gifts in forms of money, house, cars ..nice gifts huh)
I don't understand why this still goes on,and to think that this is happening with women.
And woman are considered as queen in India (they say) and a curse to poor family (that even leads to infanticide or abortion due to this modern technology "ultrasound")
The dowry deaths still happens with remote areas,as if boys are a great opportunity for a business.(so sad)

Good thing we don't practice that thing in our country. Sad to hear that a lot of deaths there are caused by that practice. I thought those things only happen to the novels that i read and happened only in the past..never knew it is still being practiced in some other countries.

In my country, it's a tradition to give dowry. However, different families gave different dowry. If the family is not so rich, they could give some daily use things, like furniture or electric appliance.I couldn't believe the high pressure of dowry. on the contrast, the bridegrooms will withstand higher pressure, because they would give big gifts in marriages.
