How many of us has been involved in doing volunteer work? I always wanted to try it but I don't have time for it. I think it's very meaningful because we are giving back to the community as well as helping others too. From what I found out from some volunteers, it's not easy and simple as it looks to be. It's tiring and they have to have wide networking and the ability to connect well with people. When I heard that, I'm more keen to try my hands on being one. How many of u out there has tried? Share your experiences folks.

I do voluntary work, I only have to give a few hours a week so I can fit it in around my job. Voluntary work has many benefits, the place you are volunteering at gains from having you there, and you gain by doing something worthwhile and something that you enjoy. You also benefit by meeting loads of new people, making new friends, and it looks good on your CV/resume, it helps you learn new skills and it could lead you to a new career. Sometimes it is hard work, especially when you have another full time job, this is why you need to find something that you will enjoy doing, everyone starts out with good intentions but if you are not enjoying what you are doing then these good intentions will only last so long, but if you find something you really enjoy then it will stop being like a job and you will look forward to it.

Hello to the both of u. I have always wanted to try my hands in volunteering. It's fun and an eye opener for sure. People we get to know along with the interactions, we are able to learn alot of life lessons from them. Any forms of volunteer work is good and I ought to start soon. I should stop putting my own interest before them if I really want to start volunteering. Appreciate both of your inputs here.

my school has a volunteer club and we go out volunteering like 30 hours a week and it is very meaningful to everyone that is involved i get a sense of pride when i see who i helped and i recommend volunteering to everyone even if you dont think you will enjoy it. i recommend making time for it because it helps others but it will help you in return.

Hey, dont stop putting your own interests first, the best way to volunteer is to find a way to include your interests. Say for example, if you enjoy activities/games, find a youth club to volunteer with. Find something you will enjoy and you wont feel as if you are working.

I did volunteer work after I graduated college. But it is related to my profession so I decided to do it because I really need the experience. I want to learn more and practice my skills and apply my knowledge in the field. I was then pulled out on some medical mission trips in our province. It was tough because usually we should expect our PAY/salary when we work. Offering your profession for free in a hospital, they are so lucky! I am just a little help to some but I am proud that I helped a lot back then.

I am a nurse. I also respect doctors here in the province doing medical mission work. It is not that easy but sure the reward is great for them. The patients just come and go... Rushing in! It is so busy and so tiring, since there are really very many patients who go to the area not like in the hospital. Once in my younger years, i wished to be a missionary nurse. But as I experienced it on just a short time, I realized that was enough. lol But I think I can do it again, some other time, but only for a short time...

So u'r a doctor or nurse? I have read many stories about doctors and nurses going for such missions and it's really meaningful. They are like those borderless doctors traveling around for a good cause. I admire and respect them alot.

Christmas is a great period of time to get started. It's the season of love after all right? I'll be like u, reaching out for the elderly and showering them with love, making them happy. It's a great time for everybody to share too.

I volunteered for a short time just after I retired and found the work to be fulfilling and rewarding. My husband got seriously ill in 2009 and requires 24/7 supervision so I'm not able to volunteer at this time. At this point in my life, I'm only able to contribute to causes but there is nothing like giving of yourself. Give it a try. You get back so much more than you give.

It's really fulfilling and rewarding to be able to help others in need. We give back out of goodwill because we wanted while not see it as a chore. On top of that, being a volunteer can be addictive when we start seeing those smiles on them. I will embark on my volunteer service journey soon after seeing so many positive members here, selflessly helping out. I'm so proud of u and all of them. .

I like helping people a lot, like you said, it's very good to give something to the society, helping someone else in need, whether with money or even taking care of him for a while or just couple of minutes a day, makes you feel so satisfied, makes you feel that you achieved something that completes your personalty, the ay you wat to be. I love to help others for free, just doing it, sometimes you met an old person in the street & you just help him cross the road, the feeling i feel when donig so is just unbelievable. The moment after such deed is just so precious. I gess it's the human nature that makes us feel that way when helping someone in need, & that's what makes us differentfrom animals.

Yes, even if we are not able to volunter ourself for a good cause, doing good deeds on a daily basis is also good enough. We can't possibly be helping everybody but once we see anybody whom needs help immediately, we should offer our hands. That's what it's all about.

And i used to put my money and ask also my friends for their help for helping a small organisation for special children(disabled)...So that we can help to our extent in extending their service to more people. And i can say who are voluntarily doing service can find immense pleasure .... Good work and you should continue in doing service even though there is a difficulty i think... All The Best....!!!

Yes, even though there's a easier way using donations, but we don't help the actual help rendered to those in need. Making donations is a way of easing my guilt because I can't be there to help physically. Do u agree?

I volunteered to help in the office one day a week at the church I go to, and I just signed up to help clean up a mile of the American River Parkway. The office work is simple enough, and I have yet to find out about the cleanup, which would most likely be the most physical.

Cleaning is not an easy job and I'm sure it's going to be very physical. Any form of volunteer work is good because we are giving back to the community.

Yes I had involved in a volunteer work by cleaning an old folk's 1 room flat. It was very rewarding as I felt that I had contributed to the society. However, it was quite some time ago and I was ashamed that I did not have the motivation to volunteer at this moment. The good thing about my volunteer group is that I can participate on my free time so I do not feel pressurize by not having enough time for volunteer. I hope that I can be motivated to volunteer again.

hi sanitary, i have been part of some volunteer works and most of it are part of our church's activities. in our church we do some medical missions (well i am not involved in any medical profession but i still join even just as a secretary to get names of the beneficiaries), we also have our clean up drives where we do some sweeping/cleaning on the streets, sometimes tree planting activities, sometimes we give help to those who are being affected by calamities and the blood donation activities (but its just disappointing on my part that i can't be a donor due to some health issues). in all those activities i think i just took a very small part but the satisfaction that we feel after those activities and especially when its a success and the smiles that we see in the eyes of the beneficiary are just different...its priceless and enough to erase the tiredness that we felt the whole day.

It feels good to help those needy right? BE it any forms of help, as long as it gives back to the community and we have done our part, it's good enough. Doing good deeds brings us a long way and in the process, we will be learning alot of valuable life lessons.

I don't do a lot, but I 'try my hands' once in a while. It started out at church. The priest was a friend and he would invite people once in while to help out with their regular community work. It was mostly dinners that they sponsor for homeless people around the church. It was just fixing tables, helping serve the food, washing dishes, etc. It wasn't much, it was tiring, but a great feeling altogether afterwards.

It's part of volunteer work too. That's nice. It serves as a bond between members and fostering of friendships, kinships or even relationships.

Yes, it's more difficult when it comes to elderly. They are more cautious to strangers but once they have trust in us, they are actually friendly though stubborn too.

Volunteer work is something I did as a pre-teen, I had alot of energy for this and did very well at it selling candy canes, sellng baked goods to raise money for a The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a good cause. Also you become more passionate about a cause like this if it affects you personally, such as when a friend has the disease. Raising money to help a cause when a friend is involved is very rewarding and you feel really good that you helped your friend by giving money to find a cure. Also the volunteer work we did was alot of fun, we raisned money at carnivals, did plays and was a fun time for me. Nowadays, I need to find another cause that I can fit into a schedule, but it is like a fever, it's catchy!

It's nice to know that u do volunteer works too. It's a nice feeling isn't it? It's quite addictive because it opens up another world, unknowned and unseen to majority of people. It's a valuable lesson whereby we don't learn in schools. That's what i love about volunteering too.

I have this idea in recent times too.. haha =D IT's a sudden hit upon me when i happen to watch some shows about volunteering.. hehe ^_^ It's really not easy, and other than having patience, fitness level, one has got to some kind of connections or easy access to readily help I think if i were to be a volunteer, at most i can only be helping out with manuel jobs, cleaning etc. But when it comes to commnicating with old folks etc, i will be at a lost.. haha

Any form of help is good help to those in need. Me personally prefer labour work and personal interaction over usage of money.
